Engagement

November 14th, 2008 @ 10:34 am by Mrs. Powder Puff

I have to say, unlike most girls, I had absolutely NO CLUE that an engagement was near. Now, don’t get me wrong, Mr. Powder Puff and I had definitely discussed marriage, but he had me so convinced that he wasn’t going to propose for a good long time that I was completely surprised by it when it happened!

In May I went on a short family vacation to Disney World (which was AWESOME by the way!), and I asked Mr. Powder Puff to pick me up from the airport. Now, before I go any further, I have to say that I was looking snaaazzzyyyy. I had just flown for a couple of hours, I was wearing my glasses, no makeup, jeans with a giant hole in them, and a sweatshirt. Wow.

Once we got home, I jumped on the computer to catch up on the latest episode of “The Office” (my fav!) when my phone started vibrating. I had called a girlfriend of mine earlier in the evening, so I thought she was simply returning my call. To my surprise, it was a text message from Mr. Powder Puff, who was in the other room.

When I opened it, it read, “Will you marry me?”

At that moment, I looked up in shock as Mr. Powder Puff knelt in front of me, saying all the beautiful things that should be said when proposing. Of course, my first reaction was to say, “Are you kidding me?!” But as soon as the surprise wore off I exclaimed, “Yes!!”

Now, the ring!

Mr. Powder Puff designed it all by himself! My favorite part (which is difficult to capture with my super old camera) is the Celtic love knot on the side, a nod to our Irish heritages!

Did you have any idea that your engagement was on its way?

What a sweet story!!

I like being suprised too. Unfortunately for me I knew about my engagement suprise because my mother cannot help herself. That woman.. you can’t help but love her though.

I love you already just because you love the office. My favorite show!!

I was totally surprised, and so was he, I think. He wasn’t planning to propose until after we’d been together one year, but he’d just had surgery and I was taking care of him. He was overwhelmed with emotion (and vicodin ;)) and knew he had to ask before he chickened out. So he did.
I’m still ringless, but he put down half the money on it last week, so I know it’s on its way! :) Couldn’t be happier with the way things turned out.

What a cute proposal story! I love your ring too! It’s funny how technology has changed things…I’ll bet you never dreamed that text messaging would play such a part in your love story:)

Such a cute story!! I wish I was more surprised when my guy popped the question. It happened on 4th of July (my favorite holiday). My mom always has a big party so I knew it would be the perfect time for him to do it. To top it off, the night before my grandma said to me “I’m coming to the party tomorrow. I wont say why, but you’ll find out.” I tried to play it off, but I knew exactly what she meant. I still acted surprised, but I wish he had scrapped the plans after hearing what she said. Oh well, I got over after I had my sparkler on my finger!!

I would have reopened that text message over and over again just so I could see it and squeal! :)

That is SO sweet! It seems almost unreal to see it written out in a text like that, so I can imagine your surprise especially if you weren’t expecting it! That is awesome! Your ring is beautiful!!!

Such a cute story! I just got engaged a week ago and was totally surprised. I knew he’d propose, and we were even on a big long-planned vacation so it was the perfect time — but I still wasn’t expecting for who knows what reason. None of our friends were surprised, but I was! :)

His family would nag him to propose every six months (at Christmas and my June birthday), so he faked us out by proposing in March while we all had our guard down.

@ErinMarieMack: I totally didn’t!!! I feel like our relationship came full circle at that moment- technology brought us together, technology was used during the proposal… it’ll be complete if we text each other on our death beds. I keed, I keed!

I was totally surprised myself. My story is similar to yours. On Saturday morning I was headed out to an appointment, my boyfriend and I were supposed to hang out that day, I asked him if he had made a plan, and he said no. So much to my surprise, when I got home from the appointment, he blind folded me and whisked me away. We ended up at a place where a summer fair is staged (a fair that is really important to me), he has been bugging me to visit this place during the off season for awhile, so I thought it was sweet, but it wasn’t until he sat me down and actually said “I can’t be your boyfriend any more” That I knew he was proposing!! :)

That is a really adorable proposal! Are you going to make text messaging a theme for the wedding? It’d make such a cute save-the-date, etc.!

@Miss Hot Cocoa: LOL!! Nooo… It would make a cute save the date, but I think my older family members might get confused. Texts, huh, what?

What cut is the center stone of your engagement ring? I love it.
