Easy Breezy Hair How-To

November 14th, 2008 @ 8:28 am by Mrs. Sea Breeze

Another thing I left ’til the very end was my hair and veil situation because one could not be figured out without the other.

I’ve been bookmarking hair inspiration via Delicious for months, and at first glance it looks like I was sort of all over the place…

Liz and Laurie had such a beautiful wedding!

 From Mrs. Margarita’s hair inspirations

… but actually, all these pics have two things in common—they’re all super easy-breezy looking, and they all involve flowers. So at least I knew where to start.

I decided a long time ago I’d be doing my own hair but left it ’til last weekend to try it out. Turns out I didn’t need any hair accessories at all—just bobby pins and an elastic.

I didn’t make an awesome video like Mrs. Avocado’s because I didn’t know if it would turn out, but I took a few photos. Here’s what I did:

Step 1: Put hair in hot rollers. A bit of hairspray on each piece before you wind it up really helps.

sb8

Step 2: Take out rollers and spritz with a bit more hairspray.

sb9

Step 3: Shake it out with your fingers. As you can see, my hair is very straight and the curl is already relaxing.

sb10

Step 4: On the very good advice of my hair stylist, I clipped the top half of my hair up and created a mini-ponytail underneath that would act as an anchor for all the pins.

sb11

Step 5: Gather the pony up and pin it.

sb12

Step 6: Un-clip the hair from the top and, taking one section, twist it a bit then pin to the back. Repeat. Sorry, this part was a bit difficult to take photos of so I just took some at the end. Ta-da!

sb13

sb14

sb15

Step 7: MORE HAIRSPRAY! :-) And try it with a flower…

sb16

There are some bobby pins showing but luckily I’ll have Mama Sea Breeze’s help to hide those suckers on the actual day. I was pretty pleased with the results—definitely easy breezy and would work GREAT with my veil (up next, I promise).

What do you think? Are you doing your own hair for your wedding too?

Sheesh, you make it look soooo easy. It looks great! Can’t say that I trust myself doing my own hair on wedding day. My hair is super stick straight (I did get that Asian gene).

Wow! That looks great chicka! I, however, will pay whatever is asked of me to make someone else do it. Some days, I can style my hair great, and some days I actually fail at getting it into a PONYTAIL! I, for one, am not risking it on the hope that I am having a good “i can do my hair” day. Beautiful Lucky Ducky you are!

That looks amazing!! You’re making me long for blonde, long, straight hair (I have brown, short, curly…ugh). You’re going to look wonderful on the big day with that hair!!

hmm..so the top half: after you twist it, do you pin the hair just once? it seems like u might have to pin it a few times…I worry that the top of my hair will look flat if I just pull back and pin…ill have to try it– I have thinner hair but I think this might work!….THANKS!

Wow! I can barely get my hair to look nice on a daily basis. I would never have the courage to do my own wedding hair! Yours turned out beautifully and you made it look so effortless. I love it!

Wow Sweetie! Good job–it looks great! And thank you for the tutorial (although I’m not sure I share your hair talents enough to accomplish the same polished look–well done!). Have fun at your wedding Ms. Sea Breeze!

Your hair looks terrific! Are you sure you don’t do this for a living? And on yourself, too… I can never get things to look right when I’m looking in the mirror and reaching behind my head. I am in awe.

WOW — you look beautiful. Do you have eyes in the back of your head and a few extra arms? There’s no way I could ever create something as gorgeous and professional as that. Of course now you’ve inspired me to try.

Perfect easy and beautiful hair. For more staying power use mousse before rolling in hot rollers. They curl will stay forever-ish.

This is kinda late, but I just attempted to do my hair and it didn’t look as good as yours, but I’m happy with it cause it was my first try. I love this style.
