About Mrs. Powder Puff

Hey, We’re Getting Married!

November 14th, 2008 @ 5:22 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

In the beginning, freshly engaged, I was staunchly anti-save the date. “Why on earth would we need save the dates?!” I wondered to myself. “Basically everyone we’re inviting lives in town. Bah humbug on save the dates!”Well, bah humbug on myself more like it! The more I thought about it, and the more people we added to the guest list, the more I realized that I wanted, nay, NEEDED save the dates. Especially when most of Mr. Powder Puff’s friends live out of state- yikes!

The decision to include save the dates added another level of planning onto my plate, especially since we have very little wiggle room in our budget. So first and foremost, they needed to be cheap. But I didn’t want to sacrifice style either!

Enter Hazel Mail- a fabulous Web site that allows you to design and send your very own adorable postcards for $1.50 each, which includes postage! This is not an email postcard. Oh no, my friend, this is actual, paper postcards, which happen to be pure awesomeness! I want to convey a very relaxed, casual, laid-back feel for our wedding, and what better way to do that than a cute Michigan postcard?

I found a photo of a vintage postcard online, and uploaded it into the Hazel Web site.

I then went click click click, added my text (in a cute, handwriting font no less!), and in literally less than two minutes I had postcard save the dates all ready to go! Easy peasy!

How did you decide on your save the dates?

I designed and ordered mine from overnightprints.com.

Best customer service, easy interface, and $30 for 100!

I’ve been searching for cute Save the Dates FOREVER and we have pictures now so they need to go out! Did you see one in person? How did it look? I’d love to use this idea!

@Chris: I considered sending one to myself, but I never followed through. Seemed like a waste. I’ve had good feedback though, so I think they turned out well!

I heart your postcards! We almost did the exact same ones (in Colorado) for our wedding. Your guests will love them!

I am pretty handy in Adobe Illustrator, so I studied Save the Date images for months until I knew what I wanted to design. After a few sketches, I created the design in Illustrator. Then, created an account on VistaPrint.com and waited until I received their free postcard offer (I knew they offered this frequently thanks to all the Weddingbee posts). Once the free offer came in, I ordered my 100 postcards, uploaded my images, and paid the $15 for shipping. They arrived yesterday, and they are fabulous! It is soooo exciting to create something, and see the finished product. :-)

Where did you upload your vintage postcard from? I am looking for something similar with my home state.

@laurabee: If you click on the teeny, tiny source link below the Michigan picture, it’ll take you to the Web site where I found my postcard.
