About Mrs. Powder Puff

Dressed to Impress

November 16th, 2008 @ 2:53 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

I found my dress back in July (in spite of my mom’s insistence that you can’t find your dress on the first day of shopping)!

Now, dress shopping was not the agonizing experience that I thought it would be. I was pretty much open to trying on whatever, since I had a pretty broad idea of what I liked and what I didn’t like. Sequins? Sure! Lace? Yes, please! Strapless? Bring it on!

I browsed through the racks with my mom, sister and friend, and we picked out dresses that we liked for me to try on.

Here are some photos from the day.

Mr. Powder Puff, kindly navigate your tokus away from this page if you would like to be at all surprised on our wedding day.

Dress #1: I wasn’t wild about this dress; I just tried it to try it. I do, however, love how teeny it makes my waist look.

Dress #2: This dress was a tad interesting to try on since the zipper was broken, and I needed to hold it together with my hands. This experience would have been less embarrassing had I not been wearing polka dot underwear. Note my blushing “embarrassed” face. As for the actual dress, I liked the lace at the top, and the overall shape was nice, but I wasn’t overwhelmed by it. Next!

Dress #3: This dress was a VERY strong contendor. I loved the lace, the fit was very flattering- a beautiful dress. Please ignore my weird, completely unflattering face in this pic. Yikes!

Dress #4: At this point in the dress shopping experience, I donned a veil. Until then, I felt a little like a girl playing dress up. Once that veil found its way onto my head, it was a whole new ball game. Suddenly, I felt, like… a bride! Amazing how one simple accessory can transform your look.

The final dress that I chose is a combination of all of the best parts of these other dresses. I feel elegant, beautiful, and very Grace Kelly-esque in it. It’s GORGEOUS!

Ta da!!!

All lace, with a long train- I couldn’t ask for anything more! I think I might ditch the sash and buy a thicker one to tie in a bow around either the front or the back. Here’s a view of the train.

I absolutely cannot wait to get married in this dress!

How long did it take you to find your dress? Did anyone else find it on the first day of shopping?

You look gorgeous! I love your dress! You looked great in all the dresses but this one is definitely the one–you can just tell by the look on your face :) How great that you found your dress so early on!

I was also nervous about my first dress experience. I made an appointment at my salon and only went with my mom. After trying on about 10 or more so dresses I also picked my dress on my first day trying on dresses. Everyone told me not to fall in love the first time trying on dress that the experience would impair my choice of a dress.

But I feel in love with my dress and never looked back.

Doesnt the feeling of knowing you have your dress amazing?

I catch myself daydreaming about it!!!

CONGRATS

I bought my dress on the first day of trying on and it also has a super long train!!! I thought I would have wanted srapless and lace with a small train but I got satin with beading, a portrait neckline and a chapel length train and I love it!

I tried on just one dress, and it was the only dress for me. I know I’m incredibly lucky to have had such an easy experience with it, because I was totally happy and comfortable on the day!

I absolutely love the progression of your try-ons… and of course the last one is the perfect mix of elements from the first four. I was crazy about #3, and then I saw the last one. Love, love, love.

I love your dress! I’m going for the non-strapless lace look as well. Your idea to add a wider sash is a good one… you could tie it and add a brooch!

Beautiful!! I also found my dress on the first day! When I put my dress on, I just knew it was the one…it just happened to be my first day shopping!

It’s beautiful! I, also, love that it’s not a strapless dress — so different. I’m terribly jealous of the beautiful lace, and I think you look gorgeous in it.

I love love love what you chose! Oh you have beautiful taste. I think it’s elegant and sophisticated, and now I’m very excited to see what kind of wedding you design around it (because doesn’t everyone, in part, design their wedding around their dress?)

I also found my dress on the first day, but I was convinced I needed to try on more (like your mom!) so I went all over town and then finally came back to that one. Your dress is beautiful btw! Romance galore!

Beautiful taste, lucky you for finding beautiful lace dresses with long trains. The whole time I went dress shopping no one seemed to be able to find anything like that in their stock, so I settled on another style of dress.

You look amazing! I love the fact that it’s lace, which dresse it up more and for me makes it more unique. Lovely cut too! And I agree with you, a thicker sash would be nice and would accent your curves more. How exciting you found your dress!! I haven’t even started to look.

@Mrs. Avocado: Wow! Thank you! :)
@Lillindy: This dress was seriously the ONLY ONE like it in the store! My mom kept making me try others on, but I kept coming back to this one.

It’s amazing! I love the lace and the train. And I think a wider sash would be the perfect finishing touch.

Your dress was amazing!!

I went and found one on my first day of shopping as well. I had no intentions of buying at all… but I snagged up a beauty at a great price at a Brides Against Breast Cancer event!

Perfect choice! It looks great on you! I bought my dress the first day shopping too. Wasn’t even planning on shopping, but one day after work I was feeling pretty down and stressed out, so I decided to perk myself up by trying on some dresses (by myself!). Found the perfect dress that day, and lifted my mood too! But I think it kinda bummed some people out who were hoping to go shopping with me. :)

Love the dress you chose! (I know I’m late on this one!) Is the 1st dress Reem Acra? I can usually spot one a mile away. (I am wearing one of her sheaths.)

Would you happen to know what the style number is for that dress? It is exactly what I’ve been looking for, and I’m having a hard time finding it on the Allure website.
