My Fair Wedding

November 18th, 2008 @ 2:39 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

The other evening I was flipping through channels, and came across the newest WE TV wedding show, “My Fair Wedding.” Has anyone else seen this show?

The basic premise is style-impaired brides whose weddings get totally overhauled by a wedding planner. Seriously, WE and their wedding shows never disappoint!

Doesn’t he look saucy?

The most interesting thing to me about this particular show, is that most of the brides seem to be overcome with the urge to buy millions of little tchotchkes online. One woman literally bought everything online, from her dress and veil to her centerpieces and wedding-day panties. All matching her turquoise color scheme. Wow.

Lucky for little ole me, I haven’t fallen prey to this malady… yet. I do love me some online shopping, but so far I’ve been successfully able to resist the gravitational pull that is the WIC (wedding industrial complex). Here’s hoping I don’t fall off the wagon and see some sassy little wedding planner man show up at my door, and tell me everything I’m choosing is tacky. That’s a gal’s worst nightmare!

Have you purchased anything for your wedding online?

I loveeeee that show. They just featured a Marilyn Monroe look-a-like bride with a rockabilly/hot pink/glam theme whose wedding was goooooooooorgeous and so quirky. That man is brilliant!

Have you read this article on offbeat bride? I guarantee you won’t feel so bad about a certain sassy little man afterwards!

Oh god, I think most of the women featured in the WE shows suffer from some kind of serious neuroses. It hurts my braaainnnn.

Love the show!! I might actually switch my BM dresses to the turquoise show Jenny Yoo ones (not the color though!)

The only things I have bought online is my hand bag - off of Etsy! And card stock for my Save the dates!

Perhaps if I buy more I can have him stop by?

Let’s see…

Shells
Votive holders
Centerpiece jars
driftwood
cake topper
all the paper for my invitations, etc.
Manzanita branches

not to mention, online is how I found and in most cases booked our band, ceremony muscians, florist, caterer, DOC, rentals, etc.

I am sure there is more I am just not thinking of.

Love that show.. I think he is great. It’s funny to watch his face after the bride says something or does something crazy… you can just tell he is like “this girl is crazy”… lol

@suzewearsshoes: Yes, I read that, and it made me feel so much better about many of my decisions!@Nicole: I know, he’s so funny! The thing I like best is he suggests changes without being overly rude.

I dont think I would book anything online.
-bought fiance’s tungsten ring online @ Titanium Kay.
-bought tissue paper
went halfsies in making a purchase of a case of tissue paper for the famous Martha Stewart pom poms.

I am kind of conflicted with buying a ring online. I am looking for a specific antique band to go with my antique e-ring and it’ll take me a lifetime to search antique stores in person. I wish I could try them on, tho.

I love the show, he’s hilarious when it comes to the tacky things that some of the brides pick out.

Funny you would bring this topic up! I purchase 90% of every item for my wedding and booked everything on the net!
I bought my 2 wedding dresses off of ebay (one for the beach ceremony and one for a formal dinner reception on Maui!…over $1200 savings!) I lOVED my wedding dresses….I know…. HUGE gamble! I didn’t even need any alterations! ( Apparently, 1 out of 4000 brides this is the case!) VERY WEIRD!!!
I also purchased my wedding shoes, purse (Italian designer), bridemaid dresses (also designer) hockey garter, necklace from etsy and the flowergirl dress from ebay stores.
I booked the flowers, hotel, venue, hairdresser and makeup artist….All with the help of the girls on Theknot.com!
I did not regret one decision! Amazing luck I guess…..
But heres the thing…this was my second wedding…so I think that played a huge role in my decision to do it this way, not that this wedding was less important, but we were eloping with our daughters with no guests attending.
Anyway, I would SO do it again! The money I saved was incredible! And did I say that I loved my dress!!! Oh baby, I did. (I was even going to Trash the dress, but decided not to because I loved it too much!!!) I wish you could see pictures! I’m starting to realize just how luck I was!
I sooo miss surfing the net for treasures..

I did the whole thing online, man. Anything I can accomplish without leaving my house is 5-7 times more likely to get done. We registered without setting foot in a store, I got the dress from eBay…I can probably list all the stuff we didn’t get online: portions of the invitation, fishing line and a stapler, a pencil sharpener, two ice trays, and a necklace. Oh, I take it back: the necklace was designed via email.

Omg love that show!! I didn’t get the play on words until after I watched one episode and thought wow this poor girl has bad taste and then he transforms her whole…Ahhh now I get it! I’ve done 99% of my *research* online but then used that when I went to the different vendors so I came ultra prepared. Except I found etsy a few months ago…this all could change!
