Cake Design: the Hive Decides!

November 19th, 2008 @ 2:52 pm by Ms Fondue

As I mentioned, we know we want our cake design to be based on our invitations and to include our monogram. However, I’m not really sure of the best way to go about doing that.

I’ve come up with several different designs that reflect our invitations and other elements in the wedding. Sorry for the terribly quality; I was just throwing stuff together in Photoshop. The thick black line would be a black ribbon.

Design #1

Design #2
Ignore that the damask print on the right is facing the wrong direction; it should be like Designs #3 and #4.

Design #3

Design #4
This is most like our invitations.

Design #5
This is the only design that incorporates the other stamp I have, which is currently only represented on the coasters.

Which do you like best? Can you think of something that would look better?

Silly question– Would the baker charge more if the design of the cake is more intricate? Or it doesn’t matter?

#3! I like that the monogram has the top layer on its own without the damask pattern. But the damask with the ribbon on the bottom 2 layers gives it a really finished look.

3 or 4. I just can’t decide. Although, I really like how in #3 the focus on the top tier is not split, but solely on the monogram.

Looks like 3 and 4 are neck and neck! Do you think #4 would look less busy if the top layer looked like the top of #3?

@Sparkles: The only way we’d have an increase in price is if it was really, really, really more intricate. Our baker assures us that these designs wouldn’t cost any extra.

@jackie: Haha, now that you point that out….. Of course, we could always say that it’s a “Friends” reference and Mr. Fondue is my lobster, lol.

Could you get a cut out of the monogram done in black and use it as a cake topper - then put the demask pattern on all three levels of cake.

My vote is # 3 or 4
I like the monogram on the top level as in #3 but I like the black border on top of the demask in #4

Good luck - I hope you LOVE whatever you pick! I think it’s stunning!

Either 2, 3, or 4
But if you do # 2 I would say add a black ribbon line, like #3, to the top layer.

If you do #4 I would agree LC that the Mongram either needs to be the cake topper instead of on the cake because it just makes for too much going on on the top tier or make the top tier like #3 and leave the other two tiers the way they are.

All of them are great though!

I think 3 and 4 are both great. But it may be harder to cut the cake with the ribbon being in the middle of the layer.

I vote for #3. I don’t like how the lines on #4 segment the cake so much.. I feel like my eyes stop at the middle line where as in 3 I feel like it wanders up.

You could incorporate the second stamp by turning it leaves up and placing it on either side of the monogram at the top. I would place them so on the left the “c” shaped leave would be backwards c shape and on the right proper c shape. Good luck with your design!

1 or 4. I like that 4 is most like your invites. I don’t like how 3 cuts one side of the damask pattern. I’m also not the biggest fan of putting the damask sideways but having it cut evenly on both sides when it’s sideways is way better than having it cut on only one side. Sorry I’m super particular about symmetry.
