Bow Ties

November 20th, 2008 @ 11:33 am by Mrs. Blush

Hello Hive!!

Please excuse my lack of posting… with exams, applications, apartment searching, and less than TWO months before our wedding… it’s been a whirlwind here in the Blushpack. With that being said, I can not believe we have less than two months!

But for now, on to the MEN.

Today’s Topic: THE BOWTIE

I love a solid black tux, a crisp white shirt, and a solid black bowtie. But I found so many adorable bowties in different colors, themes, textures, I began having second thoughts. How fun would it be to incorporate your theme/colors/fiance’s hobbies through his bowtie?!

I wish I could say, “We’re doing it! we’re getting funky bowties for all the men in the wedding party!!” But no, we’re not. We’re sticking with solids. I know…so anticlimatic, BUT I hope some of you can find fun bowties for your beaus!

I realized many weddings distinguish the groom by giving him a different colored tie/bowtie. I was sold on the idea (I thought) and wanted Mr. Blush to don a white bowtie, the groomsmen to wear charcoal bowties, and our fathers to wear black ones. I was sold on this idea until, about a month ago. I realized that it didn’t really matter whether we needed to distinguish the groom or not (I mean who’s not going to know Mr.Blush is the groom??) and that I loved the black bowtie too much to let it go. So we made the decision to have everyone wear black bowties.

Maybe Mr. Blush can wear the “bee” bowtie for our rehearsal dinner?!

Is your groom wearing a bowtie?

I had a cousin whose groomsmen all donned Mickey Mouse bowties and cummerbunds. A little crazy? Yes. But the wedding colors were red & black, so it fit in perfectly. And it’s one of the only things I remember about her wedding, which was over 10 years ago! (That, and that the groom and groomsmen did standing back-tucks in their tuxes. They were all gymnasts!)

I hunted high and low for a self-tie (as opposed to clip on) ivory bowtie for my groom. He loves bowties and but hates clip-ons, which is all the tux rental places offered. I surprised him with it the week before the wedding as his wedding gift. He loved it! I got it from WildTies.com and they have a huge selection.

My fiance asked if I was serious when I mentioned that I wanted him to wear a tux. And he laughed uncontrollably at the mention of a bow tie. So I think I’ll settle for a tux with a standard tie.

Mine decided all on his own that he wants a bow tie. I was surprised at first, but it makes sense because he’s kinda old school. I’m picturing 007. Those ties you found are so much fun.
