I’m FINALLY back from a whirlwind wedding trip to Colorado, and I’ve got so much to share with you!! Planning a wedding from so far away is pretty tough, but I’m so glad this final trip went as planned. All except one of our vendor meetings went without a hitch, our food will be fantastic, and I managed to shed only one tear of frustration at my disastrous hair trial (more about that later). I even got to meet up for coffee with Mrs. Cookie!! I would post a picture here, but I completely forgot to take one.
Booo for wedding induced sleep deprivation.
I figure that before I share with you some of our final decisions that were made this past weekend, I’d show some of our original inspiration. When we first started wedding planning, we thought that the cake wouldn’t be a huge decision. At first I thought about doing one of those Styrofoam cakes that would be decorated and then guests would just eat a less expensive sheet cake. I figured that it would save money and we would still get the look of an expensive cake. Wrong!! Those cakes aren’t cheap!
Our original inspiration stemmed from my early obsession with Damask. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it’s almost too much damask for me!

This cake is so.much.fun!! There are so many textures to this cake, and I think our guest would leave remembering the fabulous desert!! Even though we loved this design, it didn’t quite fit our rustic venue and simple decor.

GORGEOUS… that’s all I can say about this one. The damask on the middle layer is very subtle, and I love the pattern on the bottom layer.
This cake is one of my favorites, and I love how the layers are different colors… ours would be ivory with gold in the middle.

This cake is totally different, but I LOVE it… with a gold ribbon?! classic.

What would a cake post be without a picture from the famous Cake Girls! Again, this is a much more simple design compared to our original love for the damask print but I think it fits our venue. Remember Mrs. Bee’s dream vendor post?! Consider this part of mine.

We still haven’t decided on the final design and I think I mentioned before that our cake table is right at the entrance to our reception, so the cake will end up being an unexpected semi-important decision.
Did you fall in love with a cake that didn’t match your theme or venue? How did you find a compromise?
