Bridal Relaxation

November 21st, 2008 @ 8:30 am by Miss Snapdragon

Something that is super important (in my mind anyway) is that brides should be relaxed on their wedding day. On the day you leave singledom behind… I don’t think that’s too much to ask! For this reason, I am planning out a few things to help me keep my sanity on what might be a cray-zee, busy day…

DOC - The single biggest thing I see just about everywhere is that DOCs—also known as Day-Of Coordinators—are essential to reducing bridal stress. I am currently looking into that, but that’s for another post. DOCs essentially act as surrogate brides… They take over vendor communication and double check that everything is being setup correctly, without bugging the bride. I think of them as a Bridal Moat—nobody bugs the bride unless she says it’s ok!

Big Breakfast - If I am not too nervous, I want to have a big eggs and biscuits breakfast. Yes biscuits. With gravy. I think I might need the nutrition!

Running - Our venue is on a GORGEOUS piece of property, with running and hiking trails. I am definitely going to want to go on a short run, first thing in the morning. I might even go by myself, just to have a moment to take in the day all alone.

Massages - Our venue also has a spa, and I will FOR SURE be hitting that up.

Cokes in Glass Bottles - My family drink is Coke in glass bottles. It’s the only way to drink it! I plan to have an iced-down cooler of said beverages on hand. Although Coke will have to go away once the dresses come out. Well… maybe we can just get big bibs. :)

The rest of the day will be spent in makeup and hairdo heaven—with *crosses fingers* a minimum of wedding disasters! At my sister’s wedding, one of our other sisters accidentally dropped a Coke on the floor AFTER we were all dressed for the ceremony (in her defense, it was way too crowded in our dressing room!). There were screams and dives for the wedding dress. Everything was okay, but I still have nightmares.

How do you plan to insulate yourself from wedding day craziness?

In extreme cases I suggest brides surround themselves with calming items - candles, relaxing music, cool colors.

Also, have a talk with your bridesmaids - tell them they need to shield you from problems. Have them intercept issues away from you so you can’t hear them.

Look at that cute little fluffy bird!!!! (I’m a bit of a crazy bird lady) :)
Playing with my canaries always helps me de-stress, but I’m not sure if they will be around on the wedding day!

I commend you for planning ways to relax and indulge yourself on your wedding day. I too, plan to eat a good breakfast and I want to have Roly Poly or something brought in for the WP.
Side note: I created a big napkin bib for one my bridesmaids on her wedding day because I forced her to eat a turkey sandwich.
@Miss Taffy: my MOH has some serious bird love, that I find intriguing, but just can’t understand. They are sweet, but seem very fragile. I’m more of a big dopey dog girl, myself. I thought of her immediately when I saw your post on your canarys. They’re very cute.

A friend of mine hired her seamstress friend to make her dress and coordinate the making of all the bridesmaid dresses. The brides dress was done no problem, but none of the bridesmaids were on top of it and day of the wedding (as in the photographer is here to take pictures now) we were still putting in grommets and stitching on trim. I won’t do that. That was bad. Everything with the possible exception of my DIY flowers will be done by the night before at nine pm.

I was amazed at how relaxed I was the day of our wedding. Until about 30 minutes before I was supposed to be dressed and ready. Then I started to freak out a little bit, luckily putting the dress on made me feel completely relaxed. Who needs candles when you have 1000 ponds of poof? Go figure… :)

@Blaze: Oh man - that sounds like a nightmare. :( I am with YOU. I plan to have everything done except the flowers the night before, and I’ll be dry running the flowers so that there are fewer floral surprises the day of. Hopefully, my plan isn’t totally unrealistic!

I am planning on doing yoga the morning of. Then spending the rest of the morning relaxing before the afternoon comes and the chaos begins. Our wedding isn’t until 7:00, so we’ll have time to relax. I’m also mandating that anything that isn’t done the day before the wedding isn’t getting done. I REFUSE to run around doing last minute crap on the wedding day!

@Austyn: They are really fragile! Mr. Taffy always jokes that it’s a miracle they survive day to day. They only weigh a third of an ounce each! I like dogs too, but Mr. T is allergic and we are both super allergic to cats. I got the birds as a way to dodge the allergy problems. A friends mom had them as babies and they needed a home. I was happy to take them! :)

Call and confirm your hair dresser hasn’t quit the day before your wedding! This happened to my sister. If it hadn’t, the whole day would have been stress free and perfect!
