Easy Does it for Our Save the Dates

November 24th, 2008 @ 1:05 pm by Mrs. Deviled Egg

Did I ever tell you I’m a procrastinator? Well, I am. And our Save the Dates should have been sent out a month or two ago, and I’m just now at the point where I’m ready to address them and get them in the mail (hopefully, before Turkey Day!). This time, I blame my procrastination on creativity overload. I had so many ideas for the STDs, but finding something to make that was both easy to produce and cost-effective was challenging. After a few trips to the drawing board, I decided simple was better.

And all of you get to see them before our guests will!

Here are all of the pieces ready to be assembled.

I used an olive green card stock for the backing, white card stock for the info card, recycled kraft paper envelopes, scrap paper for liners, a corner-rounder punch, Shutter Stock graphic, Adobe Elements and my cheap-o HP inkjet printer. I was pleasantly surprised by how decent the printer worked.

There were three different paper designs used for the liners. The paper I used was purchased in one of those packs of random scrap paper for $4.99. I’m pretty sure I used a 40% off coupon for Michaels to sweeten the deal. The pieces were just the right size. The liner barely covers the desired area and I only had to cut about a half or a quarter inch off of each side to make it work.

I made the liners the same way as Miss Champagne, by first creating a template to fit my envelope

And here’s a close-up of the final product:

I guess you can’t tell from my crummy photos, but the brown ink is a pretty close match to the envelopes.

I’m glad I went with an easy-to-make design! And I’m glad these are hitting the mail box in the next day or two. **crossing my fingers**

How many months out from you wedding day did you send your Save the Dates?

Totally cute - and I know what you mean about creativity overload! Sometimes you just want to make ALL of your ideas… though that would be ridiculous.

Those look really amazing! Great job on your DIY Save the Dates!! How big are your envelopes, if you don’t mind me asking?

We’re planning on sending ours out soon too hehe and our wedding is at the end of April. We’re a little behind…

HeyBeckyJ

I’m a May bride as well. I just got back from dropping my Save the Dates off at the post office. (Yippee! They’re done!)

I don’t think you are late at all! My wedding is at the end of May, and we just started addressing the save-the-dates over the weekend. They should be out by the end of the month! In fact, knowing that you are sending out yours now, too, makes me feel much better! Your cards and envelopes are beautiful - I can’t believe you made them yourself!

Did you print your save the dates on 8.5″ x 11″ paper and then cut them down?

@Diana: Yes, I think the size I designed them to be was 3.75″ x 4.5″ and then I just changed the print settings to print 4 on a page.

These are beautiful! And don’t worry about your supposed “lateness.” Our wedding is March and we’re still not done sending out our save-the-dates!

@Diana: I used Adobe Elements (which is very similar to Photoshop, but you can’t do as much with it.) To print multiples, select Print and from the Print window, click on the Print Layouts button. From this menu, you can select a layout for the size you need. I picked (4)4×5s and it printed them evenly spaced and all on one page.
