I’m in Love with a Hotel

November 24th, 2008 @ 10:55 am by Ms Fondue

There’s something about Hotel Preston. It’s just so quirky compared to all the other hotels in town. Naturally, it was the first place I turned to when looking for rooms to block off for our guests. I mean, the hotel offers lava lamps, a pet goldfish, bubble bath, coloring books, rubber duckies, milk and cookies, and CDs (among other things) upon request at the front desk. How can you not love it? They also claim to be able to procure a private jet, if you so choose, for a fee, of course.

In addition to offering crazy amenities, they are also pet-friendly. So if our guests just can’t bear to leave Fido at home while at our wedding, well, he is welcome at Hotel Preston. They should just make sure there’s no conflict with their goldfish.

The lobby and elevators match our color scheme, which is kind of cool. I honestly don’t know why we didn’t look into holding our wedding here.

They also offer a newlywed package that includes champagne, rose petals, some sort of “toys”, and they even clean the “Just Married” graffiti off your car while you are gone on your honeymoon (you can leave your car there for up to 8 days).

Oh yeah, and the guest rooms are super nice. Don’t you just adore that headboard?

The hotel is located conveniently off the Interstate, near the airport, which is about 10 minutes away from our venue. We’ve blocked off several rooms for a discount, so hopefully our guests will take full advantage of it.

Were you particular about the hotel you chose for your guests?

It was a huge challenge to suggest hotels, because his family and my family tend to function in completely different price ranges. The stuff my people could afford, his people would find appalling. Ultimately, we just supplied a massive list of everything in the area, and let people figure it out themselves. A little more work for the guests, and they lose out on any potential discount, but we knew everyone would have a better chance of staying in their comfort zone.

Cleaning the newlywed crap off of the car is pretty much ingenious. Also, I want a goldfish now.

I chose my hotel based on A) proximity to reception B) shuttle service C) who had a bar/lounge most conducive to a rip roaring afterparty!?
I put safety first, but my focus was the afterparty. I ended up with a Courtyard Marriott with a big lobby lounge and bar that stayed open until 2am. It was great.

i stayed at hotel preston once before i moved to nashville…. and i wasn’t that blown away by it (the rooms looked nothing like the pics on the website, although maybe they’ve made some changes in the past few years). there’s another really cool hotel in cool springs now - aloft by w hotels - that i’ve been meaning to check out.

for my wedding, i blocked out rooms at a hotel that was within walking distance of our reception location and central to both the church and the rehearsal dinner… and also in downtown nashville for all of my out of town/out of country guests who turned coming to nashville for my wedding into a little mini holiday :)

@nashgirl: Really? I’ve never stayed there myself (yet), but I’ve heard tons of great reviews about it. They also showed me a room (albeit, it was probably a show room) that looked just like the photos.

Hotels will be an interesting aspect to our guests travels. My FH and I went to school together since elementary but are from two neighboring small towns and are getting married back home. The nearest (decent) hotel to the reception is a 30 miles away, across the Mississippi, in another state. Otherwise there are tons of B&Bs and cabins in our area but are $$$. Luckily since we’re from the same area, most of our family lives there, too, so we don’t really have to worry about relatives finding places. And we don’t have many other guests who will have to find hotel space!
