Mr. Spring Roll and I never put much thought into registering for gifts. Initially, we were not going to register at all, as we were secretly hoping that if people were generous enough to give us gifts, that they would be monetary gifts to help with our honeymoon expenses (eating, sightseeing, etc.). However, the past few weeks my mom has been inundated with family and friends asking her where we are registered. Mr. Spring Roll and I decided to register at—where else but my favorite store—Target.
Although Mr. Spring Roll and I do not live together yet, we have almost everything we need to do so. We ended up registering for things that we would like, such as cookbooks and new dishes.
Did you find yourself reluctant to start a wedding registry? Why?

I’ve been hesitant because we live together, and we just moved and bought everything new again! New dishes, towels, furniture, appliances! Everything. So I think we may just get better quality stuff, like a better microwave or higher quality linens, and register for fun stuff as well - Nintendo system anyone?
yes, I am SO reluctant to start a registry! I feel like I should be excited, but I am actually dreading the process. probably because I am awful at making decisions. how do I know what plates I will want to use for the rest of my life?
target is my favorite store, too, but I have heard negative things about their return policy. did you look into that at all?
I was very reluctant b/c we have a 750 sq ft condo and dont have room for the stuff we currently have now. but i gave in b/c its #1 good to give ur guests a guideline to choose from #2 BB&B exchanges/returns for cash even without a receipt. Also the completion bonus is incentive for the items u know nobody will get u, but you can buy yourself.
PS. Last I heard target is really strict about even exchanges off registry without a receipt. (I wanted to do Target - love that store, but that dissuaded me) I’d look into that to make sure you can exchange even without gift receipts to save you hassle later!
Yes, Ironically Mr. Harvey and I just registered at Bed Bath and Beyond yesterday. We are going to Vegas for the Honeymoon and the more money we go with the more we get to do while we are there for the week. Cash Flow is a little short ended for us so we would like our guests to help out with expenses as you stated…. But now people are making me feel guilty about that and so I registered for the people who do not feel right giving money to us on our wedding day. So yes I was in the same boat as you guys less than 24 hours ago!!!!
Totally! I don’t even know where to start, and having to decide on colors and styles is totally terrifying. I know we need to get on that horse, but it freaks me out.
Saaaaame thing here… We weren’t going to register at all. I mean personally, we just didn’t care if people got us anything or not… we just wanted to celebrate with them! But at the insistance of his mom, we ended up with two registries…
ha not me! I actually registered at a Crate and Barrel Event before I was officially engaged! Sshhh don’t tell anyone 
But do be careful with Target. I have heard some terrible stories of getting duplicates and not being able to return things because you don’t have the receipt (not many guests would think to include a receipt to something they bought off of your registry) Hopefully you won’t run into any trouble!
Target is just about my favorite store and I always planned to register there. But two of my coworkers who were just married registered there and their number one advice for me was not to register at Target because their return policy is extremely difficult and they change inventory so much. So, say if you registered for plates now and only got 4 sets and want to go after the wedding to finish the plates are gone and they won’t take them back. I’d just warn you to look into it. although i love love love target - my favorite store, they have such a difficult return policy. You HAVE to have the gift receipt to return (I saw a newly married couple try to return items that were on their registry, and they weren’t allowed.) You can only return 2 items under $20 without a receipt (in the span of 1 year). They scan your license and everything. So..be careful!
We asked, then BEGGED for charitable contributions in lieu of gifts, but got badgered into registering. We kind of hoped that people would see how wee the registries were, realize “hey, I guess maybe they really don’t need more stuff,” and then send a check to a charity.
No deal.
People saw how wee the registries were, and then bought us weird stuff we didn’t want. People, you forced us to register! Use the registry!
We both lived in our own houses with our own stuff for a while so we really didn’t need anything but I didn’t want the onslaught of wedding gifts we REALLY didn’t need so we registered at Target. To encourage people to get giftcards, we registered for a flatscreen tv that we really wanted. After the wedding, we returned a few things that we got doubles of and cashed in our giftcards for our new tv! I was surprised how many people were cool with the giftcard idea. My moms present to us was the 200 difference between what we had and what it cost.

My fi and I feel the same way! But for the same reason as you, we decided we’re gonna go have a registry.
I’ve heard the “rumors” about Target’s bad return policy on bridal wedding sites, but I have never experienced such a problem. Every bride I know in our area has registered at Target, and none of them had any problems with returns. Maybe it’s just common knowledge among my crowd to include the gift receipt - the Targets I go to give it to you automatically. I’ve returned several things myself to Target, including one item where I didn’t have a receipt. That being said, spread the word through family and friends that the gift receipt should be included in the case of duplicate purchases from your registry, and you shouldn’t have a problem with Target.
I registered at Target and have gotten a few duplicates off the registry. I’ve returned 3 things that did not have a gift receipt, however they did show up on the “Gift Purchase Log” or something to that effect. That seemed to be just as good of proof as the gift receipt. You can print a log of your purchased gifts out at the same kiosk that you start/update your registry at. (Actually some of the gifts didn’t show up on the printed version that I could see but when Customer Service scanned, viola! they were there!)
I tell all my friends this who secretly prefer monetary gifts but don’t want to outright say it - register at Bed Bath and Beyond. If you return items bought off your registy they will give you CASH back. I know some people might think its a dirty little trick, but really - a lot of gifts end up getting exchanged for store credit anyways. Happy Registering!
very reluctant. i went from honeymoon registry idea to no is that tacky to people will expect a registry anyway, so why not? then the problem now is i am so indecisive.
i could shop at Target anytime, so why not a specialty store like Crate & Barrell? or if it were possible, (i already asked and they don’t) my fiance and i agreed it would totally be Illuminations.
