Mrs. Hot Cocoa's Picture
Mrs. Hot Cocoa, Boston/Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 31, JD/PhD Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Medical Student Engagement Date: May 30, 2008 Wedding Date: March, 2009 Blogging Since: April, 2008 Venue: Ritz Carlton, Marina Del Rey About Me: I am a professional student by day and an amateur cupcake taster, bargain shopper, and wedding planner by night. I am obsessed with NPR, the Food Network, paper, dance shows, Anthropologie, post-structuralist theory, Weddingbee!, "The Office," and celebrity gossip. When not procrastinating from my dissertation, I spend time catering to Jellyby, our overly anxious shih tzu, and getting to know Mr. Hot Cocoa. We have only been dating for fifteen years, so it's like I'm in love with a stranger! From the East Coast, we are planning a Jewish-Chinese Extravaganza in L.A., where we both grew up.
About Mrs. Hot Cocoa

Sole Mates

November 25th, 2008 @ 1:52 pm by Mrs. Hot Cocoa

Living in Massachusetts, my shoe wardrobe, particularly this time of year, is utilitarian and decidedly unsexy: a pair of Dansko clogs (my dog-walking shoe of choice) and a pair of Hunter boots (designed for rain, but awesome for snow). I think this is why in my wedding fantasies, I am tottering around in a pair of saucy stilettos, comfort be damned.

Well, I am excited to report that Mr. Blahnik and Nordstrom have made my dream into a reality. Behold the gorgeous Sedaraby D’orsays that will deck my gnomish feet — I’m a size 5 — on my wedding day:

The Sedaraby is a classic Manolo style. Remember that hilarious SATC episode where Carrie loses her silver pair when she’s forced to take off her shoes at a baby shower? But lately Manolo (yeah, we’re totes on a first-name basis now) has been amping up the style in new fabric treatments. The ones I got are the perfect shade of purple — a dusky, iridescent amethyst that complements the color of the bridesmaid dresses and (as you can see in the next photo) changes hues depending on the light. And they are strangely comfortable! Sure, I’ll be eating ramen for a month to pay for them, but I figure that in terms of wearability, they were a better “investment” than my wedding gown, which I had gotten on the cheap precisely to make room in the budget for a pair of hot shoes.

I love them so much that instead of wearing a long formal gown at the end of the evening (Chinese brides change three times!), I’m thinking of showing off the shoes by rocking this short little Badgley Mischka number (originally my rehearsal dinner dress):

BQcDAAA03

Badgley Mischka via Gilt Groupe

I’d pair the dress with a flirty, quirky hairpiece, maybe something like this one by Etsy seller LoBoheme (formerly Sweetsnlo), and be ready to dance all night.

[Amelie Feather Hairpiece]

Brides and grooms, do you have a wedding outfit indulgence, be it a pair of shoes or a fab veil? Brides, are you a dress gal or a shoe gal?

Can you be both? I’m currently a dress bride, but only because the right pair of shoes hasn’t found me yet! I have to say it’s been one of the hardest decisions of wedding planning…picking the shoes.

Love the shoes, although I am definitely a dress girl. I have temperamental feet that like to turn in at the slightest mention of heels, so I am planning on wearing ballet flats or something equally comfy. I’m 5′9, and with the FI only being 6′0, no need to make myself taller!

beauuutiful - i so covet! and just as an aside, a find that although extremely on the $$$$ side, its partly made up for in the fact that the shoes tend to be more wearable (in my experience anyway..) manolo, jimmy choos, etc - for some reason they’re more comfortable to me. then again, it may be my mind tricking me to justify the purchase…. =)

Love your style Miss Hot Cocoa! I also splurged on my shoes for the same exact reason. You should definitely rock a short dress at the end of the night… it is so liberating!

Gorgeous shoes. My shoes are actually the shameless Dyables rip-off (’Onyx’), but I don’t care because I love them, they were only $90 and they’re ridiculously comfortable!

I’m jealous!! You have to definitely wear that dress and those shoes for your reception! You will look amazingly stunning! I wanted to change dresses for my reception, but thought against it since my dress was already so much money. I felt like I was wasting money if I only wore it for a few hours. My shoes were not that important to me since my dress completely covered them the entire day anyway. Yet, I still rocked some pretty nice shoes- “something borrowed” from my sister’s wedding. Back to you though, DEFINITELY CHANGE YOUR DRESS!

@Lauren: Wow — you seriously beat me in the haute bargain hunt! Saks is having a big sale with some gorgeous Louboutins . . .

@Mandy: There are really nice Louboutin flats on sale at Neimans online!

@pink: LOL — that’s how I’m going to justify the purchase too.

@Mrs. Coconut: *Blush*

@Kim: I saw the raspberry ones — they are beautiful!

I heartheart your style!!!
The hairpiece and shoes will be a DREAM together- with the adorable and uber chic badgley mischka (i had to look twice to check the spelling on that) dress- PERFECTION.

Miss HC- you know my heart- I’ll eat ramen for however long possible if they’re in exchange for a dreamy pair of shoes. I’ll probably be wearing them while my body fills up with MSG.

Great finds and great outfit!! Excitedddd to see pictures :)

I love your shoes! I wore the gold Sedaraby’s for my wedding. I danced for hours and didn’t take them off until I got to the hotel. They were gorgeous and the most comfy heels I’ve ever worn.

Congrats!

@lala: They weren’t so bad! I put foot petals in, which definitely helped.
