Color Me Decisive

November 25th, 2008 @ 5:02 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

For anyone who knows anything about me, I can be pretty indecisive. But when it came to our wedding colors, my decision was swift and final. So, what were those colors that instantly sought me out and made my heart go pitter pat?

Feast your eyes upon this:

I love me some J.Crew. Ninety-five percent of my wardrobe consists of J.Crew items, and the other five percent wishes they were from J.Crew.

So what other muse could I possibly want for our wedding colors? The navy dress, the pink shoes, the white flowers… genius!

These colors will manifest themselves in different ways throughout the day. My girls will wear navy dresses, their choice as long as they are knee-length (if I can go on a quick tangent, your bridesmaids will love you forever if you let them choose their own dresses in a color they will actually wear again. Makes things so much simpler.), the flowers will be a lighter pink, and white will be incorporated in various other ways (my dress, the linens).

Beautiful, no?

Are there any particular stores in which you look to for color inspiration?

THESE ARE MY COLORS TOO!!!! Only with a slight variation… we are using ivory and gold accents instead of white. My dress is not white so I don’t want white stuff to clash with my non-white dress. We both love navy so that was an easy choice for us. Pink is my favorite color and it wouldn’t be a party thrown by me without pink. The pink will probably show up in the flowers mostly, unless my girls want to wear pink shoes which is a-okay with me.

Ohhh I’m so exctied to see your other details. :)

What amazing colors! And they are for the most part uncommon together which makes it extra fab. Will your girls wear pink shoes? Because that is a must ;)

I Love Jewelry

I think color is not too important. Any color is pretty as long as the color of choice for the wedding is well incorporated into the wedding. I think the texture, design, and style of the wedding elements are more important, be it the dress, the centerpiece, the table runner.

I personally don’t like this bridesmaid dress from J. Crew. I love navy blue and nave blue is a very royal , elegant color, yet the texture and the design of this dress downgraded the pretty color. This dress makes the model look like she just came out of a shower, with a navy blue tower wrapped around her body.

I think all bridesmaid dresses need unique pretty jewelry in unique design and pretty colors to avoid looking too un-dressed or un-polished in a dress that is as plain in design as the above.

This is the dress (and color) we were thinking of getting. How can you not love a dress with pockets?! Unfortunately they are currently sold out of the majority of the sizes.

Those colors look fabulous! Love the pink shoes with the navy! Very classy! My colors weren’t really inspired by any stores. I just love the color yellow (esp. the very soft buttery color) and green because they remind me of summer time and are very fun, happy colors. Plus we got married on the first day of summer, so it came together perfectly.

I’m doing the same colors! I have had so much fun picking everything out in fuschia and navy. Just looking at them together makes me happy :-)

Those are my colors too! Thanks for reminding me about JCrew’s weddings shop. The blue in that dress is the exact one I’ve been looking for! (I actually went straight from your post to the JCrew site where I proceeded to buy my BM’s dresses)

WONDERFUL! I love this color theme- awesome.

I have to say, being a previous perma-bridesmaid (i wasn’t EXACTLY in 27 weddings- but let’s just say I.WAS.CLOSE.) before I got engaged, I have to say that while the weddings I got to pick my own dress in a certain color/style did work out in the end- I found the process a little bit MORE stressful than being given a certain dress.

The brides who had a specific dress for us to get definetely looked for styles that flattered all body shapes, in colors that, like navy, complimented most skin tones (mostly chocolate browns and black- they were a bit trendy ;) ). I think most brides these days (with the exception of the few we see on cable television- really do keep their maids in mind while choosing dress choices.

The times where I had to find my own dress, shoes, jewelry, etc- was STRESSFUL for me. I felt like I was shopping FOREVER to find something I liked. Maybe it’s because i’m not the best at making final decisions- but I was really concerned on making a decision the bride wouldn’t like in one area or another- (even though the brides were all sweet and easy-going)- I didn’t want to be the one to “ruin the wedding”- you know?

@Miss Powder Puff: I second that… J. Crew definitely has the best EVERYTHING! I was in a wedding earlier this year and we wore dresses from the J. Crew wedding shop. They were comfortable, fit well, and are definitely a candidate for re-wear. :)

We are using very similar colors as well. We are also using a few shades lighter blue in addition to the navy. It’s fun to see that so many other brides are using the same thing. I think we want to have blue dresses (in one of the shades) and then the fuchsia/deep raspberry flowers for some pop of color.

@Meg: I’m not using the colors in the linens- I’m going for white lace instead. So gorgeous!
