Miss Champagne, DC/Vail/Colorado Age and Occupation: 26, Eye Doctor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Attorney Engagement Date: March 13, 2006 Wedding Date: February 2009 Blogging Since: July 30, 2008 Venue: Small church ceremony with mountain-view log cabin reception About Me: I'm a small town mountain girl with a city heart. Found my way to the east coast, and Mr. Champagne kept me here so we're planning a wedding from afar in my hometown Vail, Colorado. I'm secretly obsessed with reality TV, Wii games where I can shoot a gun, country music, and Caesar: Dog Whisperer. I also spend time pretending to golf, backseat driving, having one way conversations with our MinPin Maxwell, loving champagne, and wedding perfecting… I mean, planning. I use way too many repeated symbols and letters when I write, and I'll love Mr. Champagne endlessly…

Groom Quirks: Champ Edition

November 26th, 2008 @ 9:32 am by Mrs. Champagne

I don’t know about other couples, but throughout this whole process there’s been a clear line between the subjects Champ cares about and those which he could care less about. I mentioned he was big into our Mountain Menu choices (specifically his obsession with buffalo), but there have been less obvious details he’ll take over.

I mention this because yesterday when we were in Crate and Barrel, Champ casually leans over and tells me that our low ball glasses are no longer available online and we should look for some to replace them on our registry. Um… say what? You check our registry??? He might be the only groom I know that actually cares about registry details. He’s even added random items to our registry like a scull print beach towel.

Hot off our registry:

(Bed Bath and Beyond Scull n’ Bone Beach Towel)

Totally unexpected, totally random, and totally adorable.

Champ has also taken charge of a few big ticket items on my “to-do list”. He’s managed to somehow get an emotional attachment to the issue of transportation, and I catch myself trying not to act too relieved I won’t have to do it. He’s also in charge of lighting at our reception. We’re working with a company called Pink Monkey Solutions and I couldn’t be more confident with his decision to have them do our lighting. I met with them during my trip last week and they are total creative geniuses! Champ if you’re reading this- great job. :)

Oh and did I mention that I have no idea where we’re going for our honeymoon? Champ has planned the entire thing!!! My only requirement was that we go somewhere relaxing and tropical.

He’s given me a few clues but they’re just too vague:
1. It’s a location that has perfect weather in Feb. (hmm… no idea)
2. It’s in the Northern Hemisphere. (guess I should’ve paid attention in geography class- again- no idea)

So these are just a few quirks I’ve noticed along the way and as we get closer and closer to the wedding, I suspect Champ will have a few more up his sleeve. I just can’t WAIT to see where we’re going on our honeymoon!

Have you been surprised at the details your groom chooses to care about?

So cute! My fiance only cares about the lighting and the music, but since those are 2 huge things, I’m glad to leave them to him. He’s done a great job so far on both!

hmmm.. if it’s not the Caribbean, then perhaps the Maldives? I think it’s just above the equator, and the best time to go is in “our” winter!

This is so interesting! Instead of the Secret Life of Bees, all the Bees should do Groom Quirks! Because who doesn’t like to poke fun at our SOs once in a while? My fiance is planning the entire honeymoon, too. I was the same as you…relaxing and tropical. He also was VERY interested in transportation, so much so that we got into a little tiff over it. We have yet to revisit the subject. My groom never ceases to amaze me.

I love this! I came here specifically to suggest that we do another bee series, but @EmilyQ beat me to it!

Men are strange creatures, aren’t they? I say that with much affection.

He wanted to go on the honeymoon the NEXT day after the wedding, he really wanted it to be in our hometown and not in the Big City, he wanted to help make the paper items perfectly. He is a perfectionist so all of these things were fine by me. It is crazy the things they want to do!

Mr. Doctor cares about everything. He arranged the catering on his own and he’s in charge of registries. (If it was up to me, we wouldn’t even have one, but you should see him with a scanner!)

I’m so glad he’s been so involved with every decision, but remember there are trade-offs! There’s nothing like getting excited about an idea for table numbers only to have it get shot down ;)

There were more than a couple of things where I made a decision on something I assumed he wouldn’t care about (favors were one), mentioned it to him, and he was all gasp/shock/horror! So even stuff I thought would be completely uninteresting to him, I’d give him right of refusal before it was a done deal.

Mr. PN did transportation too! He was also checking our registrey! Near the end he took over on a TON of items like our hotel block, the rehersal dinner, music and dance lessons!

After reading your post, fiance is in charge of transportation and lighting, even though it is being forced on him! You ladies are lucky for a having a take charge fiance!

Hey Katie,
I just found your blog…how cool! I love the way you tell your wedding planning details. Enjoy this time. It goes by way too fast! And way to go Champ on getting with the registry! The only thing David wanted was a wooden salad bowl! He loves that bowl…

Mr. HC was fixated on the invitations. He keeps all of his wedding invitations, whereas I toss mine almost immediately!

My fiance is really concerned with WHO will marry us. We’re not religious, so it’s not as easy as just getting the priest or minister to do it. So I said “alright, you’re in charge of that!” Felt good for him to have something to do, and something he cared about.

When will you find out about your honeymoon!? My fiance and I are doing the exact same thing as you and Champ, but we don’t have a geographical limit. I am such a control freak, I knew I had to let go of something. My fiance is a pro at vacations, so I thought this would be a great chance for him to shine. He has taken on the responsibility with a lot of enthusiasm, but I can’t help but be nosy. I’m not easy to keep secrets from, but he is doing a great job so far. I’ll have to wait until July to find out! The suspense is killing me.
