Miss Fondue, Nashville Age and Occupation: 27, Technical Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Network Admin Student/Senior Game Advisor Engagement Date: December 25, 2007 Wedding Date: May 2009 Blogging Since: September 14, 2008 Venue: Ravenwood Golf Club About Me: I’m your average computer geek marrying a gaming geek and trying to find a good balance of elegance and geek chic in our wedding. I adore The Sims, Nintendo, cosplay, (good) music, TiVo, theme parks, and our two crazy felines.
About Ms Fondue

When we started planning, Mr. Fondue said he wanted two things: eight best men and a full bar. We’ve compromised a little on the bar due to budget constraints, but he definitely got his eight best men.

But he’s also had lots of input besides these two items. You may recall that he picked the flowers. He’s had lots of opinions on traditions. There was a lot of back and forth with our table names. He was involved in our music choices. He’s been in charge of contacting our venue (he’s spoken with them many times, I have only twice). And I think he’s more worried about having glassware than I am.

He gives me an honest opinion on every DIY project I come up with. He’s insanely proud of our invitations and shows them off to everyone. He thinks the coasters are silly. He completely vetoed the idea of personalized “Do Not Disturb” signs to put in our hotel welcome bags.

Some brides might find this annoying. Some might want to just be able to do whatever they want to carry out their dream wedding.

But I adore having his input. It’s his wedding too, and I’m happy to listen to his opinions and compromise when necessary. Reasons #249 and #250 of Why I Love Mr. Fondue? “You help me out with projects for our wedding” and, “You give your opinion when I ask for it, without sugar coating it.” He is truly what I am thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Is your significant other involved in your wedding planning as much as you’d like?

He is involved, but not overly involved. I doubt he would veto any of my ideas unless it was budgetary. He’s also said he’d get involved with DIY projects too. :) He is the passive person my mother said I always needed. I am bossy and spirited, and he is my calming force.

Mr. Fondue seems like a cutie!!!

My fiance is soooo involved! Although he doesn’t pour over weddingbee and bridal magazines, he wants to be involved in everything. I asked him if he wanted to come with me to meet with a florist and was shocked when he said “Absolutely!” During the meeting, he started spouting off “our vision” and what “we wanted for our wedding.” Although it makes it a little harder, because we have to make every decision together, I love that he wants to be involved. I also gave him a few “projects” before I got to stressed out– he’s in charge of researching the DJ. And once we pick a honeymoon place, he’ll research things for us to do!

My (now) husband was similarly involved during our wedding planning. In fact, he wanted to be so involved in everything that he even came to the dress shop to see the two dresses that my bridesmaids and I were trying to decide between (they were two different colors) since he felt that the bridesmaids dresses would directly impact his groomsmen when it came to deciding which color vest to choose for their tuxes. We ended up going with the dress that he preferred! (Not simply because he preferred it, of course…)

My man and I are equally involved in the planning, as we agreed would happen when we got engaged. We’ve have some older friends and relatives admonish him for having opinions about the wedding plans - they keep telling him “It’s the BRIDE’S day!”. I personally hate that notion. It’s OUR day, not just mine. I love that we’re planning together.

That said, it can get frustrating because we have very different tastes. I’ve had to compromise quite a bit, but so has he, and that’s okay - we’ll end up with a day we both like :)

Mr. Fondue sounds like quite the catch! Mr. Peng wasnt really involved in the planning too much but he was a great “cheerleader”. :)

Mr. Doctor is just like Mr. Fondue. To be honest I love it. It takes some of the pressure off and it really helps with decision making. Besides, I didn’t have some big fancy vision for the wedding day anyway. It’s great to see it take shape with both of our personalities contributing!

Great post Miss Fondue :) Mr Fondue sounds like a great guy!
FH is very involved in our venue search right now, and while its frustrating b/c I’ll love a place and he won’t I’m thankful that he cares a lot about it :)

I love this post. My mister is not very involved in the process (he’s in charge of groomsmen attire and reception music) — my mom and I are doing most of it. But every so often I ask his opinion and the responses have not stopped astounding me!! I asked him if we wanted a wedding cake, as opposed to say, an ice cream sundae bar. His response? Yes, I’d like A GROOM’S CAKE. Um, ok.

Happy thanksgiving, all!

I love that my FH is so involved as well. He’s really into all things computers and spreadsheets, so he did spreadsheets to help our caterer, spreadsheets for the guest list/RSVPs, completely redesigned our RSVPs so that each individual can accept or decline on the invitation, helped print and assemble them, coordinated all his groomsmen fittings and is handling all the technical aspects involved with our reception music. He’s a perfect balance for me, because I love dealing with creative and design aspects and he’s the more detail-oriented one!
