Faux Flowers

November 29th, 2008 @ 2:32 pm by Mrs. Spring Roll

Mr. Spring Roll and I are paying for the majority of our wedding; therefore, we have learned to be very practical. While I would love to have real peonies, dahlias, and hydrangea in my bouquet and at each table, I can’t justify spending hundreds of dollars on flowers. Our practical solution? Artificial flowers. From my bouquet to the centerpieces, all of the flowers at our wedding will be artificial.

If done well, artificial flowers look just as beautiful as real flowers. Take a look at these beautiful crepe peonies, and paper poppy pomanders.

Sister Spring Roll and FSIL Spring Roll used artificial silk flowers for their bouquets; they looked great and will last a lifetime.

And who can forgot Mrs. Pineapple’s gorgeous clay flower bouquet?

What practical solutions do you plan to incorporate into your wedding?

I am doing all paper flowers! I want the centerpieces to be interesting and not expensive so I am getting indian paisley print tissue paper in our colors and making the centerpieces from these. They won’t look real since the paper is printed but I think they will look artful and purposefully inventive (rather than just cheaper than real flowers!)
For the bridesmaid bouquets I am making more traditional flowers from tissue and crepe paper and think they should turn out nicely as well. I am using real greenery (giant leaves from my backyard!) as accent in the bouquets!
All of my friends have seen my trial rounds and want to learn how to make them, so now I have free help with the flowers.

We are having a florist do centerpieces for 10 of our 20 tables, and we’re doing the centerpieces for the other 10 tables ourselves. Hopefully we will still get the effect from her arrangements without breaking our budget! For our DIY centerpieces, I am thinking either floating candles at various heights or dried branches/stems so that they can be assembled in advance! :-)

I love the artificial peoniesL) Maybe I’ll consider them because peonies are out of season in Feb!

We will be using some silk flowers for monogram decor. I am jealous of your savings by using them completely!!! :) We did get a pretty good deal with our florist though, and chose peonies because they were in season (cheap!), and the bloom is large so we don’t need many for each vase. (cheaper!) I’m a bit worried though because we are just at the beginning of the season, we might have to come up with a bak up.

Since my FI and I are planning to pay for most to all of our wedding, I may be going this route too! Thanks for the inspiration!!
