About Mrs. Peep Toe

The Sweetest Decision Ever Made

December 2nd, 2008 @ 1:50 pm by Mrs. Peep Toe

When Mr. Peep Toe and I got engaged, we knew we wanted one thing at our wedding: cupcakes!!

While we love anything sweet, cupcakes get us both excited!! I am guessing it’s because we each get our own and we don’t have to share.

I know that cupcakes have become a bit cliche these days. Especially in San Francisco, but we can’t resist.

About a year ago cupcakes hit the scene big-time in the Bay Area. New cupcake places sprouted up everywhere, so what were Mr. and Miss Peep Toe to do? Go on a tasting bonanza!!

1. Kara’s Cupcakes were big hit. In fact, our friends served them at their wedding in June. I still think about the lemon cupcake.

2. Citizen Cake was surprisingly just OK; I think they do a much better job at everything else. And by everything else I mean they make the best chocolate french toast ever!!

3. That Takes The Cake was new and gave us a dozen free cupcakes to taste, but they didn’t light our fire.

So finally we went to the old stand by:

4. Miette. Mr. Peep Toe and I were introduced to Miette on our first anniversary at Hotel Vitale. Miette is located in the ferry building across the street from our venue (and down the street from my office), so since our first introduction we have had Miette cupcakes numerous times for various special occasions.

We heart Miette Cupcakes, so really there was no competition (just a reason to eat a lot of cupcakes). We had a bunch of family in town last August so we did an impromptu tasting.

Here’s everyone gathered around the platter (please note that I am on the floor to be as close to the tasting as possible):

And here are the cupcakes (a bit disheveled from the ride home):

Not only are they the best tasting cupcakes in town* but:

1. They are local and ORGANIC. Yes, eco-friendly can provide the very best!

2. They are giving us a small cake to cut!

3. Since they are across the street from our venue, they are going to deliver them for FREE and provide free cupcake stands!!

4. We are getting a discount on our order since it is a larger order than normal. Not to mention, cupcakes are SO much cheaper than cake.

This was the easiest and sweetest decision we have ever made.

Are you bucking the cake tradition and providing an alternative dessert at your wedding?

*in my opinion at least.
** the first of many discounts for having a City wedding.

We’re probably doing cupcakes as well. When we got engaged, my sister got us cupcakes from Sweet & Sassy Cupcakes:
http://www.sweetnsassycupcakes.com/

They were so frickin’ delicious we’re pretty sure that we’re going to have them for the wedding. Since my sister works in the same town as the bakery, she can pick them up for us!

I was just at a wedding last month where my friends served Miette cupcakes for dessert! They were chocolate with marshmallow cream and ridiculously delicious. The (cup)cake cutting was very cute too.

I LOVE cookies and we’re having cookies instead of cake. It was the only decision I was certain of from the start - and it is the most frequently questioned. I throw a little tantrum each time someone says, “No, you HAVE to have cake!” “I want COOKIES! It’s MY day!” Those are the only bridezilla moments so far.

@Heather- I’ll follow up with flavors.

@Tea- can’t believe you haven’t had their cupcakes yet!! I do love their macaroons too. Yum. May have to go get some on lunch.

@rokianokia- stick to your guns. Serve what you love. You should serve the cookies with little shots of milk- so cute.

I’ve heard good things about Miette - I keep meaning to go there (I live in the east bay). Those photos made me drool, by the way.

We’re having Whoppie Pies! I think they are a PA Dutch kind of thing but it’s basically a cupcake sandwich with the icing in the middle. Typically they are dark chocolate with vanilla cream but our caterer is making us strawberry and chocolate. They also come in yummy pumpkin with cream cheese icing. You haven’t lived until you’ve had a whoopie!!!

So I have ordered Kara’s (That takes the cake) for a good friends wedding before and they are also organic ingredients, etc, but at work parties I have ordered from Sibbys (http://www.sibbyscupcakery.com/) and literally heard from people “that is the most delicious thing I have ever tasted”. Just thought you might want to try it before deciding!

We’re also doing cupcakes, we’re getting married at a state park in the middle of nowhere so getting a real big fancy cake was going to mean it had to travel from afar. Cupcakes are much more likely to endure a two-hour car ride well! Plus the price is amazing. We’re getting them from Publix, actually, haven’t picked flavors yet but their cakes are all so yummy. We’ll have petit fours with our new initials on top and perhaps some chocolates also, a little buffet :) The best part– a good friend is making a 9″ cake in our favorite flavor for us to cut!!

MIETTE!! I LOVE MIETTE!

Oh, now that I’ve got that out of my system -I’m so excited for you!! Have you decided on what flavors you’ll be getting? Will you be using them for favors too? Miette! Ahh haha okay just wanted to sound my vote of approval for the cupcakes!
