You Gave Him What?!?

December 2nd, 2008 @ 2:57 pm by Mrs. Champagne

I guess I usually consider myself pretty thoughtful when it comes to gift giving. I really make an effort to listen when people say they want things or need things, because there’s always an opportunity to give someone a thoughtful gift. But this year for Champ’s birthday, I was surprised to hear the response when I told my friends what I would be gifting him.

It’s no secret- Champ cares about his appearance. Not in an obsessive way, but he takes care of himself. So when he tried Crest White Strips to help whiten his teeth, I wasn’t surprised. After all, I’ve been a huge White Strips fan myself and they’ve really brightened my teeth. But, as some of you may know, the strips can make your teeth a little sensitive, and I guess Champ is a sensitive guy. :) He couldn’t deal with them!

When I thought about what gift to give him for his birthday, I couldn’t help but think that he would love a Brite Smile professional teeth-whitening session.

According to the info I’ve seen, it can whiten your teeth around 8 shades, and it lasts for almost two years! He would love it, and… well… with our wedding approaching, I think it would be a great gift!

It made perfect sense to me, and when I told Champ about his session, he loved the idea!! It was something he wouldn’t necessarily purchase for himself, but something he greatly appreciated. After all, I asked for Gocco ink and bulbs for my birthday and a camera for our honeymoon for Christmas.

With the holiday season approaching, has anyone else started giving or getting more wedding related gifts?

Holy Wedding Cake Miss Champ, I had the same thought. I do the Crest strips and they work well for me since I have fairly white teeth to start. My darling boy is a different story, and it’s always been something he’s been concerned about. But, with house payments and other hoohaw he never decided to do it. If our wedding is the right time, when is? Great idea - especially since it’s something you BOTH will enjoy (much like the camera you’re receiving under the tree this year!).

And actually, his birthday is 3 weeks before our wedding, so I’m doing the Brite Smile for that. We bought eachother’s wedding bands AS a Christmas present. We picked them out together and had them engraved. They will hang from the tree in those little Red Envelope “Wishes Do Come True” ornaments that Miss Sushi posted about recently: http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/11/17/wedding-ring-orb-ornament/

@Miss Kate: What a sweet idea with the rings! We haven’t picked ours up from the jeweler yet, but that’s def something to consider!

i’ve had zoom twice and absolutely love it….i will warn you that it is possibly the most pain i’ve ever experienced and i don’t have sensitive teeth - it feels like bolts of electricity running through your mouth for at least 48 hours after. but it’s totally worth the pain and i would love for some one to give it to me as a Christmas present.

I really wanted this done, but I read so many reviews online echoing what Liz said about it being *excruciating* that I decided it wasn’t worth it. I wish I hadn’t heard negative things first, so I could at least have the benefit of bright teeth!

I did the White Strips Supreme, which you can get for cheap online. They’re “professional strength” and they worked really well. They did make my teeth feel funny (sometimes hurt for a few hours) and the hydrogen peroxide made my stomach really gassy, which gave me AWFUL farts. Heh. But they worked, and I only used about a third of the box before the wedding!

Mr. CP is getting me laser hair removal for xmas, because I am into depiliation and I’m tired of repeating the process every 5 weeks. (As much as I loved sugaring (http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/07/25/the-sweeter-side-ofhair-removal/ ) I am tired of ingrown hairs. Begone!

I have done Zoom 2 years ago, it made my teeth really sensitive for an hour and then it went away. But I remember getting a lot of canker sores. Ask your dentist to prescribe some numbing agent. I think I got mine done for less than $200. And after 2 years, I’m still happy with the result despite being an avid coffee, tea, coke, and cranberry juice drinker. But I’m going back in for a touch up in 2009, I would recommend to go at least 1-2 months prior to the wedding date just in case of any side effects.

@kathy: I think it’s around 300 here but he had to start a few months ago with a full dental exam and any work that had to be done. He’s so excited!!
@Mrs. Cherry Pie: thanks for the advice and lol at the hydrogen peroxide induced farts:)

I have been wanting to try white strips before the wedding! Thanks for this post, I did not know about the other options. :)

I’m told that if you swish with fluoride that it’ll help lessen the sensitivity with the strips! I’ve tried it and it does help me!

I am in sales and I sell the sort of professional teeth whitening system that you are talking about (Shine White). My company let me borrow the system and I whitened my whole family’s teeth. This Christmas, everyone is getting a teeth whitening pen that they can use at home. The wholesale price is nice and everyone will have white teeth in our wedding pics! Everyone wins!

I love useful gifts. :o) My brother is gifting me a gps for the car, which I think will be sooo useful when we’re in Hawaii. No maps or yahoo maps for me!

My teeth are real sensitive too, without even using the strips. I found that if I do the strips every other day it helps.

I like the useful gift idea. My fiance and I are talking about giving each other an extra engagement picture session. We live in DC, but are getting married in San Diego. We are having our engagement shots done in San Diego, but really wanted DC shots, because this is where we proposed, plus we want our puppy in the pictures. So hence, extra engagement shots. He and I agree its a great Christmas gift to eachother
