We Have a Winner…

December 3rd, 2008 @ 5:37 pm by Mrs. Deviled Egg

Taking advantage of the Thanksgiving weekend, some of my bridesmaids and I hit up Alfred Angelo to check out some dress options for them to wear. In a previous post, I selected styles I liked and wanted to see them try on. I really didn’t care which dress they picked, as long as they were the same color, length and fabric. So, after giving them the option to pick different styles, imagine my surprise when they settled on one style.

Here’s what they chose:

I’m even more surprised that they were on board with a strapless style. It comes with optional straps and I’m more than OK with them using them if they want to.

Now I have to figure out what to do about shoes. Should I have them get the Dyeables? Sure, they would be a perfect match, but would it be a waste since they’ll probably never wear them again? Or, should they wear either gold or silver shoes that they might get more mileage out of in the future? (Bonus if they already own a pair that would work!)

I hate how making one decision always results in more decisions having to be made.

How did you handle selecting shoes for your bridesmaids?

as a bridesmaid in an upcoming wedding, I was more than thrilled when our lovely bride told us to wear gold shoes of our choice!

I say let them wear what ever shoes they want. They can wear black ones they already have or gold or silver or if they want to buy dyeables, let them go for it. Nobody will notice thier shoes on the wedding day, not even you (believe it or not, you will have too many others things to think about).

I love the dress! I had dresses from AA too. The girls loved them! Are your dresses going to be that sage green color or something different? If they will be green, I’d say go with a gold or even a champagne colored shoe. Nina makes a lot of super cute shoes that would look great with that dress! My girls actually opted to wear dyables, but their dresses were butter colored and none of the shoe colors that we looked at seemed to go with the dress. Even white looked terrible, so we went with pale yellow peep-toes and they were perfect. Either option would be beautiful, but I’d say go with what your girls think is best. That’s what will keep them happy bridesmaids. :^)

Those look so similar to what my bridesmaids wore! They all looked great in it too, such a flattering style! These are the shoes my girls wore with theirs:

and here’s a pic with them in their dresses with their shoes on :)

I agree with letting them choose.

If that’s the colour you’re going for, then probably some form of neutral, like gold or silver would be good. Even pink might be nice as a contrast.

let them choose. i was able to pick a pair of shoes for the last wedding i was in and i’m still wearing them. in fact they’re one of my favorite pairs. at least they’ll get more for their buck this way!

They picked a great dress! Very cute. I wanted tea length, but floor length ended up working better with my girls and our venue. :(
For shoes, they can wear any black shoes that they have, or new ones. We have a black sash on the dress, so it was very easy!

Gold or silver! It’ll be a money saver in the long run.

I have been in weddings wear the bride picks the color options and the maids can go get whatever style they want, like black and strappy etc. If you don’t want all the girls to all wear different color shoes like black gold and silver shoes then narrow it down for them and say either silver or gold. It depends what you would like. If 3 girls have black and one has gold and if that might bother you then choose the color for them.

gold or copper. chances are they already have them or would wear them again, (if they have to go out and buy them). The only additional thing I will tell my bridesmaids is to decide amongst themselves whether the shoes will be strappy sandals or peep toe pumps. For some reason it always looks weird to me when some girls in a wedding party have barely there strappy shoes and others have more prominent pumps. But then I’m VERY detail oriented and always notice things like that.

Unless you’re buying and REALLY want perfectly matched shoes, don’t go with dyables. Just give them a color and let them pick out their own shoes. They’ll be more comfortable and more likely to leave the box again. I had my BM wear gold shoes of their choosing and they were delighted. As a BM in another wedding I got to wear any black shoe. Score! I of course already had a cute and comfy pair.

Pretty dress! I love the slight ruching on the top! I vote for letting them wear metallig shoes. It will give the girls a chance to show their own style and will make you a more popular bride:)

Let them wear whatever shoes they want! Chances are, they’ll get cute ones & they’ll be so much happier. I was just in a wedding and the bride requested that we get dyeable shoes. I definitely won’t ever wear them again, I don’t think anyone even noticed our shoes. If they did, they probably weren’t saying “Wow, its a good thing they matched their shoes- that made the dress.” :)

@alli: Wow! Your BM dresses are similar. I like how they look with the shoes you picked. I’m definitely leaning towards gold now.
@liane4tino: The dresses will be that green color. At Alfred Angelo, it’s “Celedon”

I would lean towards choosing black shoes that they choose. Truly reusable shoes are ones that would go with a lot of outfits and black would definitely do that.

@LatteLove: Thanks! My dress is by Jacquelin Bridal and is style 9611. I had a style in mind, found this one that fit the look I wanted at a local place and fell in love with it. If you search online for it, you’ll find it for cheaper than I bought it for! I decided to cut off the flowers that were on the side, they were only held on by a few threads so it wasn’t too hard. http://www.magicmomentscollections.com/item/Jacquelin_9611/5723/c195

@ Miss Deviled Egg: My girls actually all wanted to wear the same shoe since the dresses were short. They chose the coppery color since it goes well with any skin tone.

Shoes took us FOREVER to decide on. We all started thinking that different shoes would be fine, but with the short dresses, I changed my mind and wanted to convince them all to wear the same ones. My sister saved the day by finding the perfect shoes at Payless for $20!

I used this exact color dress for my bridesmaids and let them decide on shoe color themselves. They decided on silver, and it looked fabulous, and they all appreciated being able to chose a style of shoe that they felt comfortable in and would definitely wear again.
Plus, when I look back on my wedding, I realized that all my worry about the color of the bridesmaids shoes was totally not worth it! They could have been wearing brigh pink shoes and i still would have been smiling and enjoying myself.
