Play Me a Song Mr. Piano Man

Play Me a Song Mr. Piano Man : wedding ceremony music Sheet2

Music is a very important aspect of our wedding, and my life in general. I grew up playing instruments, and you may be surprised to learn that I’m a classically trained opera singer! So naturally, I’m finding myself to be very picky about our wedding day music.

From the moment Mr. Powder Puff slipped the ring on my finger, I knew I wanted guitarists for the ceremony. Relaxed, folksy, casual- perfect! We immediately contacted two guitarists who play for my church, and secured them for our date. Bing, bang boom!

Unfortunately, that was the only thing that was easy about our music choices. Let me tell you, we’ve agonized over my iTunes play list for hours, trying to decide what songs would be best.

Here’s the result of our hard work!

Prelude: Any music in our guitarists’ repertoire.

Processional: Amazing Grace (the Sufjan Stevens version)

The first part of the video includes the song, but the entire video is worth watching. This is a GORGEOUS wedding!

Bridal Entrance: Free Fallin’ (The John Mayer live acoustic version. We’re having our talented guitarists play this sans vocals)

Interlude: Happiness, from You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. Sister Powder Puff and a friend will be singing this. It is such a cute song!

Recessional: All I Want Is You, by Barry Louis Polisar

Postlude: Anything in the guitarists’ repertoire

How did you decide on your ceremony music?

We’re STILL deciding!
But, holla back to Sufjan Stevens, one of my all time favorites!

I love that wedding. I was just looking at the Jose Villa pictures of the same wedding. They are such a great looking couple and obviously have great style. I can’t remember the name of her blog, but it’s great! It’s Oh Deer I think.

AAAH!!! I LOVE Sufjan!!! If my fiance wasn’t in the picture, I would be lined up to have Sufjan’s babies :) Saw him in concert at an intimate little venue in L.A. and I cried. Great call on using his version of “Amazing Grace” for your processional!!! Love it!! It will be so special.

@Kate: That’s Chelsea and Tec Petaja’s wedding. He’s a wedding photographer, and she makes gorgeous hairpieces. She’s one of the vendor’s on Weddingbee Pro!@Miss Hot Cocoa: LOL, nooo. I don’t think I could keep it together to sing! But I’ve sung at other weddings before. :)

I actually went a weird way of deciding my ceremony music, I didn’t. I let our organist decide. It’s pretty amazing what he came up with and completely different some anyone elses.

Also a suggestion I had two friends who are total music nuts (they’re both getting MAs in organ) and I randonmly offered to film their wedding. They couldn’t be happier about it as they didn’t really hear their music on the day of but can now enjoy it whenever they want.

I really like the Barry Louis Polisar song, and we contimplated using it, but then my SO thinks that it’s so misogynistic (which it kind of is).

We’re using the Charlie Brown theme for our recessional. *heart*

I love your choices, and that they’re personal and make you happy. FI and I have totally opposite tastes in music (like you I’m a professionally trained singer and love musical theatre and standards, he loves Widespread Panic). It’s been a challenge to find things we both like, and for me not to just steamroll over him and pick only songs I like. Congrats on a big task completed!
