About Mrs. Blush

Gown Shopping Breeze

December 4th, 2008 @ 4:40 pm by Mrs. Blush

Wedding dress shopping was very easy for me. We went to two places - the first place was filled with amazing couture dresses, but they were way out of my price range. We then visited David’s Bridal. I tried on a total of four dresses and without much hesitation I picked the second dress. I didn’t have a “this is the dress” moment and neither MamaBlush nor SisterBlush cried. Despite missing those “moments” I thought were “supposed to happen,” I loved the dress and how well it fit my body. MamaBlush and SisterBlush agreed. After all, they were the ones who picked the dress out. Finding a dress for me was so quick and easy, as we were heading out the store I thought to myself, “Did I really just buy my wedding dress??”

I know at this moment I’m supposed to say- Mr. Blush don’t look! But I’m totally fine with him seeing the dress. Gown Shopping Breeze : wedding wedding dress Winky05 winky05

My criteria was very simple: something that works on my body type. My body type is a deviation from most Asian women: heavier top, smaller lower body. Before dress shopping, I thought to myself how unfair it was that a wedding dress reveals so much of the upper body and hides most of the lower body. However, after finding this dress, I’ve come to realize that there is a dress out there for all shapes and sizes. Gown Shopping Breeze : wedding wedding dress Winky05 winky05 So don’t lose hope!

While dress shopping, I did find that the sweetheart top flatters my body type the most, as does the mermaid train. A few perks about this dress are that it came in petite as well, so the alterations weren’t as enormous. It is available in white and ivory. I chose ivory.

The dress is entirely beaded lace.

The sweetheart top. I was apprehensive that a sweetheart would reveal too much cleavage, but surprisingly this sweetheart top covers you up very well.

If you haven’t realized yet, this is also Miss Spring Roll’s dress. You have great taste Miss Sushi! Gown Shopping Breeze : wedding wedding dress Winky05 winky05

Like me, did it take you only a short time to find your wedding dress?

I chose the style of dress I wanted when I went formal shopping, over a year ago… when I got engaged I bought a pattern and a cheap dress on ebay. My mother and I are going to make the dress. :) Your dress is gorgeous!!

I did the same thing! Couture store first where I found out the fit that I liked, and then to Davids Bridal. I maybe tried on 6 tresses, and once I found mine (also all lace! But mine is a trial dress so it isn’t only yet) I knew it was the one :)

I just went to davids bridal last nite and tried on 8 dresses…. 4 of them i like. like u, i didnt have an “omg this is THE dress” moment. and my girls liked the dresses as well. my dilemma is choosing one of the 4 and in a hurry too! i’m getting married in march and last nite was the first time i went dress shopping! suffice to say, i’m gonna have to pick one of the 4 like tomorrow. but some ppl are telling me to go look at other places until i find “THE DRESS” and that i shouldnt settle on 1 dress from db. but i only have 3 months left and dresses take about 3 months to order and then some more to tailor!
i’m happy u got ur dress… hopefully i wont hesitate and pick mine as well…. =)

I had the same dress-shopping experience, though my second store was another couture store, not David’s Bridal (so I went about $1000 over what I was expecting to spend). I’m so glad I read your posting - I started having doubts when people I told about my dress-shopping experience got a look of horror/surprise that I found my gown so quickly. But I’m a very decisive, opinionated person, and when I love something I love it!

I agonized and agonized and tried on so many… Then I decided that I was going to choose between the two that I liked the best of what I had already tried on. I was uninspired, couldn’t decide and generally blah about the whole thing…

Until I found my sweet, sweet beautiful dress… and finally indecision and the blah feeling went away. I can’t wait to see it, try it on again and bask in it’s presence.

The moment I decided wasn’t exactly a “the one” moment, but it’s as close as I could ever possibly get!

@emily: Making your dress?? If I only had the skills! Your dress will have sooo much meaning behind it…your wedding dress, made my you and your mother- how precious!

@MagPie518: Thanks for picking that up! Excuse the brainfart :)

@smileybride: Maybe you can ask DB when all four dresses would come in. That way you don’t have to make a decision if you’re not ready. Good Luck!!

@Elizabeth: I hear ya! No worries about what other’s say- once you have your dress- you can move on to other things- like shoes..accessories, etc.. Yay for knowing what you want :)

@Doctorgirl: Glad the “blah” feeling went away, seems like you really love your dress! Happy for you! I try my dress on at the most random times..just because..you feel so pretty in it!

It’s beautiful! I love the detailed beading and lace, it’s incredible. Congratulations! The first time I went dress shopping, the third dress I tried on was MY dress. I was worried about not trying on very many and settling for the first dress I liked, so I went back with my MoH and tried on half of the salon. And then ordered the dress! Sometimes it really is just that simple. Congrats again!

Beautiful dress, really pretty! LOVE the lace (mine is all lace too)

I went once and only once. I was supposed to just be trying on styles to get an idea of what looked good because “the” dress was to be at a trunk show the next weekend. I took ten dresses into the fitting room (I think the only ten dresses that didn’t have beading). Fell for the 6th. Mom cried and get this, my fiance called both times I had the dress on. I took that as a sign and ordered it up.

Couldn’t believe how effortless it was, really didn’t even question it much, which is SOO not my nature. I’m sure you can find “the” dress every time you hit a new store. But sometimes things are just that easy and we should just be thankful and accept it.

Besides, then it leaves more time to obsess about something else, hahaha.

Miss Blush, I had the exact same experience & actually ended up with the exact same dress as you! I LOVED this dress, but might I make one suggestion? If you need it significantly tailored (more than just a hem), take it somewhere other than David’s Bridal… they did pretty terrible work on mine, I think because all the beading & lace made it a trickier job than they normally tackle. Congrats on finding your dress!!
