Mrs. Meatball's Picture
Mrs. Meatball, Hollywood Age and Occupation: 30, Actor/Writer/Office Maven Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Actor/Writer Engagement Date: October 7, 2007 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Blogging Since: September 16, 2008 Venue: Private Garden/The Bungalow Club About Me: I love melty cheese and diet coke almost as much as I love my man. I'm from Chicago, he's from NYC, and we both miss public transit and great pizza. We have an adorable muppet dog called Paco. I'm part hippie with a healthy dash of hip hop superstar, have excessive empathy for animals, and have not one, but two bionic eyes (long story). We're broke and it ain't no joke. It can't stop us from planning the bold and whimsical wedding of our dreams, but we've had to get pretty creative to make it work, yo!
About Mrs. Meatball

***Note: If you are a bridesmaid in our wedding, do not read this post, or risk missing out on a spontaneous moment of surprise and delight when the items in this post are finally revealed to you. You don’t want to be the odd-woman out, right? RIGHT? That’s what I thought. Now kindly move along… nothing to see here.***

All the bridesmaids’ dresses have arrived, and miracle of miracles, all the ladies seem to like them! I’m still trying to get the girls to send a photo of them in the dress, and so far, I’ve only seen MaPo in hers, but it’s adorable.

One thing I’m having a hard time deciding now, is what color shoes they should wear. My instinct says yellow - which looked redonk in the picture on the J.Crew website…

So I threw together a polyvore board to compare yellow, with my other color ideas, blue or gold.

BQcDAAA04

I’m still not sure..

What color shoes do you recommend?

Aside from shoes, I knew I wanted to get them a unifying accessory, too… to complete the picture. When I stumbled across RachelleD’s shop on Etsy, I nearly bounced in my chair with excitement. I mean, how freaking sweet are these necklaces?

Oooooh…

Ahhhhh…

Swooon…

Sigh…

I just adore the simplicity of them. The feminine, slightly retro feeling is so romantic and sweet. I also think they’ll look fabu with the dresses and spice up the neckline just a bit. They’re super reasonable, at between $20-30 each… I couldn’t pass them up! I contacted Rachelle, and she’s working with me to develop a custom style so I can pick any color I want (not just from the pictures above). The only problem is… what color?

What color necklace(s) do you recommend?

If we do yellow shoes…. should I do yellow necklaces? Am I at risk of turning my bridal party into a circus with all the color? Would blue be more subdued, or gold more bold? Help me, fashionistas. My bridal party’s cuteness depends on you!

I voted for gold shoes mostly because I think they are the most wear-again-able. If someone asked me to buy yellow shoes for a wedding I would a be more than a little annoyed because I would probably never wear them again. But, that’s just me!

Those gold shoes you have pictured are awesome!! And I think any of the necklaces would look great, but I do like the first one the best!!

Either do opposites-pink with orange dresses and orange with pink dresses, or match the necklace to the dress. I think the opposites would unify everyone!

I loooove the yellow shoes with the orange dress…so crisp and unexpected but I’ll complicate your decision by adding I don’t like the pink dress with yellow shoes (but that’s me). As for jewelry, I think it should unify but not be too matchy with either of the dress colors. I.E. orange dress, yellow shoes, goldy/bronze necklace and maybe a printed bag/shawl (fill in the blank) pulling all the colors together.

just sayin'

I think the gold lacks punch. Washes the feet out BUT if your maids are dark skinned it would be a good contrast. BLUE is a very exciting contrast color and it’s different. Go for blue! for both, neck and shoes.

Amy makes a good point! Not everyone would want yellow shoes (I would!). You could go with gold shoes and do yellow necklaces for both dresses. Most people would get more use out of a colorful necklace than the shoes… *sigh*

I like the yellow shoes with the orange dress but am not so sold on the yellow shoes with the pink. I do however think the gold shoes look great with both the orange and the pink dress. I also like the idea of doing necklaces that match the other dress, pink with the orange dress and orange with pink. That or all in blue necklaces. Same colored necklaces may look too machy machy but I’m sure whatever you feel would look best will turn out great!

I LOOOOVE the yellow shoes but I have to say that I think the gold ones look best with the dresses. I’d also go for gold jewelry. Whatever shoes you decide on, I think the jewelry should match the shoes. if every element is a different color then you may run the risk of things looking uncohesive. And by the way, those are awesome dresses. Totally wear again-able. :-)

The yellow shoes are definitely cute… I would wear them again. Are they affordable if the girls won’t? Just a thought. I love the last necklace! They are all really pretty.

I have my girls all in gold heels (that I got for $19 each at Nine West) and am putting them in different necklaces, but all have pearls somewhere in them… got them from Etsy, too!

I think it really depends on your girls…I know that of the three choices the only ones I’d wear again would be the blue ones.

I like the yellow shoes best with both color dresses. While I love the necklaces independently, I am not really fond of them with this dress. Sorry.

I say blue shoes and blue necklace! I think they would tie everything together nicely while still giving each girl a personal touch.

I’m in love with the blue shoes!

GOLD shoes and any color necklace to match their personalities which makes them feel even more individual and they would like them more, thus wear them again. I have seen those necklaces I would wear mine again and again so precious!

I’m torn. I like the yellow shoes with the orange dress and gold shoes with the pink dress. Either would be so much fun to wear though!

I adore the yellow shoes with both dresses, but the gold ones are aight to…I would like blue, but am not so much digging the example you have.

As for jewelry - I think matchy-matchy wouldn’t be as chic as having some fun with it! I’m partial to the blue so long as the shoes aren’t blue too…

Good luck - everything has such potential to be fun and fresh!

I am partial to the yellow shoes, not only do they look amazing with the dresses, yellow is my favorite! :) I think every girl needs a “fun” pair of shoes - they would be adorable with a pair of dark wash jeans and a fun top for a night out.

I love the necklaces, they are so cute and sweet, but let’s say you do pick the yellow shoes with that particular dress - I think jewelry with a little less volume would be best! Yes, no, maybe so?

I liked the yellow shoes, but like it’s been mentioned, your maids may not be very excited about purchasing yellow shoes? (But they could to, depending on their style…). And I guess my advice is just the opposite of Jill’s: I would do the same color shoes and jewelry, to really make the contrast pop with the dress. I guess everyone has their own “vision” and you should just stick with your gut and go with whatever you feel looks best! :)

I got WAY outvoted, but I love the pop of the blue shoes and the blue necklace…plus I think they are both still totally rewearable.

I say gold shoes and let every bridesmaid wear a different color necklace.

I say the gold shoes - I was going to say the yello ones and then I noticed they have an ankle strap - this can be really unflattering on some girls (it tends to make your legs look shorter)!

Yellow!! My bridesmaid dresses are a shade similar to your pink dress and we had the hardest time coming up with shoes! We finally decided on Red Patent, but Yellow and Orange were close favorites! I love the brightness of the yellow shoes with the dresses!

I would pick the gold shoes and the first necklace BUT I like the idea of blue shoes, just not the shade you chose. I was thinking more of a Navy, J. Crew has a color called deep atlantic that may work. I also like the yellow idea and I own yellow shoes but I can see how some BMs may not agree so I guess you could just ask your girls for their opinion on shoes.

If you have blue or yellow shoes you could get the necklaces to match the shoes without looking to circus like… if the shoes are gold I would probably stick using the two color of the dresses to unify the different colors that way between the girls

I agree on the yellow! I think it might depend on the personality of your girls but I would definitely wear yellow shoes over again. I also wanted to add that I have the Jcrew dress you’ve chosen in royal blue and it’s incredibly comfortable and is great for dancing. Great choice!!
As for the necklaces… maybe different colors to personalize them to your girls. I think, the more color the better… everyone loves a circus.

I am in love with the gold shoes! I’m not too crazy about the necklaces. Have you given thought to maybe some long layered necklaces? Some funky chunky bangles could be fun. Or maybe get them all matching dangly earrings. So much could be done with these outfits– They’re gorgeous and I’m sure they’ll look great no matter what you decide!

I like the gold and yellow! I like the idea of each girl wearing a necklace the color of the opposite dress! :)

I voted none of the above on the neclace because I think you should pick a color that you feel best suits each girl and not have them all match.
I think they are very cute neclaces! I’m doing neclaces that are very similar (they all have those same bird charms and chain) but I’m mixing it up with the other beads and changing up the styles a bit. I also like taffy’s idea of doing the opposite dress color too.
