I hate working out.

source

Unfortunately I have to do a PT (physical training) test every 6 months to stay employed. My confession: The last two tests I did, I was TOTALLY out of shape (aka did not work out at all)! And while I did pass, I was practically hyperventilating and struggling to stay alive. Now that turkey day is out of the way, I’m on a mission to get in shape, not only for wedding day (which is 3 months away! Yikes!) but for myself and my next PT test. Having a wedding in Hawaii not only means the standard, “feel good in dress”, but it also means “feel good in swim suit”. 8O

Mr. Sushi is very athletic and absolutely loves to work out. He’s been on a set workout system since June and has easily gained about 15 pounds of muscle since then (while I sat on the couch grubbin’ on my fudge rounds). He has volunteered to take on the job of being my personal trainer.

This week was my first week back at the gym in… well, a looong time. Mr. Sushi has me doing different circuit training routines every day, and my plan is to find some cardio classes to take. Did I mention I despise cardio? I know running is a great work out for my body, but I hate doing it. Once upon a time, I was a competitive swimmer; swimming and running are two totally different things. I would love to get back into swimming now, but I can’t afford a membership to a gym that has a pool (I currently have free gym access). So I’m looking for some cardio (non running) alternatives. I’ve have signed up for some pilates classes, but I’m more of an action/have to sweat to feel it kind-of a work out person, like kickboxing.

Food wise, I refuse to deprive myself of the foods I love…. so I’m not going to. Everything in moderation of course. I don’t particularly eat unhealthy (I’ve never liked soda), but I’m sure I can cut out that occasional third cookie or eat more salads. I’ll do minor changes, like eat whole grain bread instead of white, but I will not change my whole diet. I figure if I start working out wholeheartedly, then I should be able to maintain what I currently eat, but maybe lose an inch. ::fingerscrossed::

What are you changing in your day to day life to become healthier?  And does anyone hate working out and cardio as much as I do?

I have the exact same theory, but no athletic fiance near me to work out with…or be trained by! (we are 2,400 miles apart)

I am planning to do a detox diet about 2 weeks before the wedding to clear everything out of my body. I did it for one week about amonth ago and lost five pounds and felt really good about it. (meats, fruits, veggies and protein only!)

Other than that, I know the only way I’ll stick to any kind of fitness plan is if I do everything in moderation, build up very slowly, and have an accountability buddy(my sister and another BM)

Right now I just play 1 hour a week of rec. volleyball. But I am giving myself until January to come up with a plan!

My DH loves to work out and I on the otherhand, like you, prefer to sit on the couch and eat fudge rounds. (I laughed out line when I read that..) I hope one day I can get the motivation because right now this new wife is only gaining weight!!

On the swimming note: Did you try looking into High Schools with pools? I don’t know anything about where you live, but a high school in my area has noon hour swim MWF and evening swim TR with open swim on S&N. For a single session it is $1.75. And they have passes you can by for $15.50 that cover 10 sessions. No membership required! Also cool - during the summer they do a morning swim (5am-7:30am) M-F with coaches on site to help you correct your stroke.
Look around your area - try the city and town departments nearest you and see if they offer swim hours. Typically an aquatic center falls under a “Park and Recreation” department within a Town/City district.

Running is terrible for your body and extremely inefficient at helping you lost bodyfat. I nearly kissed my trainer when he told me that, because I hate running. It’s especially terrible for women becuase of the “Q-angel” of your hip joint. If you love to run and thats what keeps you active - go for it. But if not, my trainer recommended interval workouts instead. He gives me six exercises to do in as quick succession as I can and then I rest for 90 seconds and repeat the rotation for five total rotations. My first workout looked like this:
60 seconds jump rope
60 seconds high knees
45 seconds ab exercise
60 seconds 2lb jump rope
60 seconds mountain climbers
45 seconds ab exercise

He’s made it progressively more difficult working up to 75 seconds of exercises in some cases. It’s better to go all out and only make it through 3 or 4 rotations than to skimp on your exertion. If I’m tired I’ll do 3 rotations and hop on the elliptical trainer for 15 or 20 minutes to finish it out. Good luck!

@amaryliss: I never thought of that! Thanks for the suggestion!

@Lauren: I’m sooo using that as an excuse not to run now! “Nope Honey, can’t run; it’s bad for my body”. hehe. The mister has me on a workout similar to yours. Good to know he might actually know what he’s talking about.

I love working out, but I hate running! I seriously cannot do it at all. Instead I take aerobic classes that are really fun! I was doing good with my gym “comeback”, but fell off of the wagon last week. Tonight’s my first night back again, I’m excited! Good luck with your fitness goals!

Your job as a designer/ photog requires you to do PT? Okay, back to the point of the post, I hate working out, so I’ve been putting it off… until the new year (so cliche).

Everything in moderation is my motto too- I’m regretting our decision to get married right after both Thanksgiving AND Christmas- what was I thinking?!

@Miss Cheese: I’m a photographer for the Air National Guard and a full-time graphic artist for Counterdrug, a guard run program. To stay as an active duty guard member I have pass an Air Force PT test twice a year. :oP

Me and working out have a love/hate relationship. I love the way it makes me feel after the fact, but getting me to the gym is another story. I’m a former athlete too and I’ve found that once I get in a rhythm (working out 3 or 4 times a week) it’s easier to get motivated.

Anyway, good luck with the new fitness plan! My FI has tried to be my personal trainer on a few occasions. But my complaining gets him annoyed and he gives up. I don’t think I’m THAT hard to train! Hee hee. :)

I for one never really had to excersice until I moved out to the burbs during high school. That really kicked my butt but also made me get into shapes. Now that I’m a couple of years out of HS I’m losing shape again. Boo! I just lack the motivation needed to lose weight and maintain fitness.

Good luck with getting yourself into shape! :3

I’m a curvy bride who loves working out (I run, take spin and step aerobics classes, walk 7 miles to work twice a week and lift weights)

… I just love leisurly long dinners with lots of wine and cheese and dessert courses. Keep ‘em coming. I went from 189 to 172 on Weight Watchers from March - May 2008. Then I got engaged and started celebrating. I’m currently at 177 and my dress fits me as is, and I feel really great in it. But I’m going to be on a beach (or in a hotel bedroom…) for 11 days after my wedding and I could use some help.

I am on week 5 of the Buff Brides 12-week intense work out and seeing great results, I’ve also gotten back on the WW train and am seeing results, there, too.

And? I caved and splurged some hard earned overtime cash on luxe beauty supplies that are really helping with my cellulite and other thigh/butt/tummy skin, erhm, imperfections. I’m doing the Murad “Firm and Tone” system which includes taking supplements (fish oil, vitamins, etc.), applying a serum and a lotion twice daily AND I do a “activating scrub” twice a week. I am fully on Bridal Bootcamp of my own kind… and I’m loving what I’m seeing. My skins never been so soft, and my hair is bangin’.

Who knows if it’s Murad, or being dediated to eating right and working out effectively, but personally I think it all adds up. It all helps the cause.

Good luck - in the end you know you’ll be GORGEOUS on your wedding day, and your man will adore you in whatever you’re wearing (or not).
