Our Photographer…

December 4th, 2008 @ 3:49 pm by Mrs. Shortcake

… was, hands-down, the worst part of our wedding. Photography was, is, and continues to be such a huge aspect of that day, that it really kills me to do this.

I’m not going to review him.

So, suffice it to say that he was the most unprofessional photographer that I, my family, or guests had ever met, and I still get emails about his antics to this day. But, I need to move past grieving and focus on healing, so that’s the end of that affair. He sucked, he blew it, and it can’t be fixed.

Or can it?

Enter one six-hour dinner with Anne Ruthmann. I forgot to tell you, but sitting at that table were also the rocktographers; Nhiga Tram, Jake and Jess of Kampphotography. Three very lovely people, and very talented photographers. From that dinner came not only budding friendships but a very special offer:

The Kamps are going to redo our wedding photos!

Our Photographer... : wedding photography vancouver Sc2 sc2

Of course, it will only be the photos of Mr. Shortcake and I, as we can’t very well fly out ten wedding party members and family to Winnipeg.

But then again, isn’t that what we were missing the most? Amazing portraits of us… looking happy?

Has anyone else redone their wedding photos? How did it go?

we had to redo our engagement photos…I know it’s not the same thing at all, but it was really disappointing how badly our first photographer behaved. You could absolutely tell how much happier, natural, and sincere our second session felt by looking at our photos. It will be totally worthwhile for you, and can hopefully bring closure as well as some fantastic photos! Good luck!

I’m so sorry you had such a terrible photographer. Photography is so important to me, I booked my photographer second after the venue. I haven’t even talked to caterers yet! I’m so glad you’ll get to reshoot your photos, even without your wedding party, at least you’ll have some amazing shots of the two of you!

I’m so excited you are doing this! I had a bad photographer too… but I take blame for it. Oh well, you honestly do grieve and then heal! I really hope you have some photos to share with us of your wedding day. I just loved reading about your wedding and hope to hear more about it one day!!

Mrs. Shortcake, are you comfy sharing HOW you came to pick your disappointing photographer? Was your wedding the first time working with him (since your dad did e-pics of you and the mister)?

Ms. Shortcake - that’s so exciting for you. I do agree that the pictures of the two of you are the most important and priceless. And they are obviously doing such a wonderful thing for you, I don’t think you should take advantage, but would there maybe ALSO be a way they could do some post-production editing on some non-pro pictures your family or friends might have captured?

Such amazing work happens in post, that maybe you could even get some of the non-posed stuff and details from the wedding if you can track down anyone who might have taken pictures of all your hard work and your friends/family having fun. And then you could sort of end up with some semi-pro pictures! At the very least, it’s great you’re able to recreate the ones of the two of you! Hope it goes well!

I hope you *do* review him. If not here, elsewhere on the net. Yelp, citysearch, knot boards, etc. Just to prevent this from happening to another bride. Hurray for redos though! :)

YAYAYAYAYAYAY!! I’m so happy for you :) I also saw some of you photos the other day - I wish I was getting married in Canada so you could do my wedding! (We are honeymooning there though, how close are you to French Canada? :))

That’s so great! And I know you probably wish someone told you this before your big day, but is there any big piece of advice you would give brides to be about how to avoid picking a bad photographer? How did you choose your photographer? Did he have mostly good reviews and do you think your wedding was a fluke? Or something else entirely? Sorry this was such a painful process for you! I think we all enjoyed reading about your beautiful vintage details. I hope your new pictures are everything you want and more!

I’m so happy you decided to do this! I can’t wait to see the new pics and I hope you do feel comfortable sharing what happened with the other photographer at some point.
