Sister-Sister!

December 4th, 2008 @ 11:25 am by Mrs. Ballet Flat

There’s a big check that I can take off the to-do list thanks to an Alfred Angelo sale: my sisters chose their bridesmaids dresses!

Boy, what a task that was, too! See, with my other two friends, they knew what they wanted. It took them maybe 30 minutes to choose their dresses. Not my sisters. I love them, but they had NO idea what they wanted, and they brought mom along. So, you know what that meant: four minds. Four female minds that were all trying to find two dresses for two girls. I included myself, because my sisters begged for my input.

My mother basically took every style of shorter dress in their size, and we whisked ourselves away to the fitting room before anyone could even help us out. Yep, that’s my mother. She wanted to give every dress a chance (as long as it didn’t look completely ridiculous).

One hour of trying on, pulling, clipping and a few internal dilemmas, and my sisters had chosen their dresses!

My maid of honor, Mizz K (Miss K is another bridesmaid, remember? We MUST differentiate here!) chose a beautiful dress. She wanted to be different though. As my aunt would say, “Just give her the #$^*@ sash!” So Mizz K got her sash in the end.

Here she is modeling her dress. It will be in tealness, and the sash in espresso.

I just hope Mama Ballet Flat and Mizz K don’t hate me too harshly for posting these pictures for the world to see!

My other sister, Miss R, is really laid back. She is a youthful (almost) 16, and wanted to reflect that in her dress. I think the bow in the dress really helps with that! Her dress will be all tealness, because, like I said, Mizz K wants to keep her espresso sash unique!

Also, remember Miss J? She bought her bridesmaid dress without seeing the style on her (since our store didn’t carry that style and she wanted it that badly), and recently picked it up. She loves it! Gosh, that girl knows her fashion! Yay Miss J!

Also, Miss K, not to be confused with Mizz K, is coming in town from Dallas for a super fun-filled Gocco party! Stay tuned for the invites! They are gonna be AWESOME!

Were you a brave enough bride to let your bridesmaids all choose their own dresses?

Oh, I hope I’m as brave as you. We haven’t done any shopping yet, but I’m hoping that my girls will all chose lovely dresses (in the color of course!) I can’t wait to see all your ladies in teal, I like what they have chosen.

I think I have everyone straight ;-)
I love that they all have a unique style of dress to fit their personality :) I’m thinking of going that for my maids b/c they are all so different, but my sister/MOH thinks its weird… she may just have to get over that ;-)

I think that your choice is a great one, especially since your sisters are (I assume) younger than the rest of your party. My sister also chose her own dress in candy pink from David’s Bridal. It’s similar to the other girls’ dresses in fabric/style, but their dresses are brown and are from J. Crew in 3 different styles (I have 6 girls and 2 are wearing each of the 3 styles). I plan to tie together the look by asking the gals in brown to wear sashes that match my sister’s pink dress. I really like that the trend is getting away from cookie cutter and moving toward something that looks good on each gal:) Plus, I figure if my life turns out the way “27 Dresses” did, at least I will not have to wear a dress I would not like:)

Mizz K picked the same dress that I picked for my girls!
I didn’t let them pick, but did take a TON of input from them before I made the final decision.
Everyone says they love it! My dress will be celadon (the color of that sash, I believe) with an espresso sash.

Cute dresses! One of my bridesmaids wore the same dress that your younger sister picked out in a wedding last summer. She really liked it!

My girls were in Maryland, Illinois, and Minnesota, so I figured David’s Bridal was my best bet. I gave them a color and a skirt, and they picked the tops. One picked a top I never in a million years would have thought would be flattering on anyone, and it looked great on her. Another couldn’t find a top that suited her, so she made one. I just think it’s so important for them to be comfortable with what they’re wearing, and unless everyone’s about the same build and attitude, that means different dresses. If I had to choose one or the other, I’d rather have them happy than matching.
