Chocolate Place Cards Will Work, Right?

December 4th, 2008 @ 12:55 pm by Mrs. Dumpling

First off, I must apologize for my absence over the last week. I got sucked into the awesome world of Forks, Washington with my imaginary boyfriend, Edward Cullen! (What? Like you don’t think he’s dreamy!) Mr. Dumpling will be very happy in a few days when I finish reading the entire Twilight series. So, anyway… sorry.

Photo from Twilight.

Remember when I blogged about our Neopolitan wedding? I used this picture as my inspiration for our place cards:

Source

We’ve been trying to figure out the best way to make ours look similar to the ones in the photo, but I just do not have the patience to cut 250 little circles, and I can’t seem to find a tool that will do it for me. Also, how did they get the names printed on there? So many questions there…

To make it a bit easier on myself (Yes, just me… Mr. D has stepped down from this particular project), I’ve decided to use square business card sized paper from Paper Source that has been slightly trimmed down to make it smaller. I used the regular business card sized packets in strawberry ($2/pack of 25). Wal-Mart is having a sale on Ferrero Rocher gift boxes, so we stocked up on those over the weekend. (Hmmm, I don’t know why this pack is missing 3 pieces… musta been a mistake at the factory?)

Here’s what our test run looked like:

The directions are simple. Stick a toothpick in the Ferrero Rocher, stick a card on the top of the toothpick. Voila! It’s cute, easy, and turns into a delicious snack for your guests on their way to their seat. Note to self: don’t use orange toothpicks next time.

In what ways will you attempt to “jazz-up” your seating cards?

Can’t you use this (http://www.impressrubberstamps.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Punch-Circle_jumbo&Category_Code=P1) to make the circles for the tip-tops of the candies? :-)

If you did still have your heart set on the circles, you could get this squeeze punch:
http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat2785&PRODID=prd57298
it would probably take maybe an hour to punch out 250 2-inch circles. You could maybe print out the names and then just line the punch up around the name and go to town. Or you could punch them and then hand-write the names on the circle? I like how the round candy matches the round tag on the sample! The rectangles are cute though if you decide to stick with them - and when it comes to DIY projects, the easier the better!!

They sell paper punches at places like JoAnn and Michael’s in a circle shape. Or what about using round sticker labels?

Either way, I think they are cute AND delicious.

Ha ha, I just finished the first Twilight on Tuesday and I already feel like I am going through withdrawals. The movie is suppose to be really cheesy, but I might have to go secretly see it on Sat while the Mr. is working.

I think the circles take it from okay to wow which is what you are going for. Circle punches can be found at any craft store or look for scrapbook stores in your area, they are a great resource!!!

I just finished the last book in the Twilight series two days ago and I am already going through withdrawals :( Don’t worry…I secretly envision myself with Edward too…he’s the world’s most perfect boyfriend :D

You can use Avery 1″ circle stickers, which (as I learned from my own escort card project) come on 4×6 sheets that load quite nicely in a printer’s photo tray. Names on the front, a blank (or a monogram, or whatever) on the back, and you don’t even have to worry about gluing the sign to the toothpick.

I brought the first book to our little vacation in the Dominican Republic last week. I didn’t think I’d need another book, but tore through it so fast (lounging, poolside and oceanside), that I ended up reading it twice (and we were only there for 5 days!).

I asked for the remaining books for Christmas, but may end up buying and reading them all before then. It is 3 weeks away, afterall!

And p.s. I think the cards are cute, but the other ladies had some solid recommendations if you’re digging the rounded cards!

All of our tables will be destinations on our honeymoon (we’re doing a cruise through Western Europe and the Med), so I’m going to make luggage tags and hang them on a board on the patio where we’re having a between-activities cocktail time. Does anyone know where I could find old postcards images (preferrably with European cities!) online, for the actual table name cards?

It’s ok…I told my husband that I’m in love with Edward. Just don’t rush to see the movie…that was a major disappointment - he just wasn’t perfect in the movie.

LOVE. THIS. IDEA.

we are actually collecting pictures of all the planned 360 guests for our wedding and then going to make a tent placecard with their picture on one side and their table number on the other!

Yummy idea! I love those chocolates. I hope that you can use the above advice to make round cards, they are so cute! You could reuse the strawberry cards for “share your pictures with us” cards or numbers for a taxi service!

Mr. Taffy and I have been trying to brainstorm a clever idea for our escort cards. Nothing yet! We don’t really have an all around theme, just the slightly vintage graphic design themes of black bows, dots and the string around the finger thing. We’ll figure something out!

I love it! esp the candy eating part! We’re collecting corks to cut and use as our place card holders. The cute thing is, that I asked a few friends to save some, and they asked their friends to save some and so now we have people all over the world saving corks for us and they dont’ even know us!

It’s pretty sweet :)

I don’t think I could do your project though, the chocolates wouldn’t last and I wouldn’t fit in my dress! Kudos to you (and Mr.Dumpling’s) willpower!

Love this! I can see how the circles are a little more schnazzy, but I think the rectangles are also cute, especially because they’re such an ice cream-y pink color! If you want to jazz them up a bit, I’d say use a corner rounder to soften the edges. Minimal work and they’ll look even cuter.

Cute! If you want to keep using the rectangular cards, you can buy a corner rounder for a few bucks and round each corner. Slightly tedious, but SO worth it!

BTW, I luuuuuv Edward!! AGHHH!! Mr.E always says I’m cheating on him with Edward, hehe.

Your placecards are cute! I think the rectangle looks great, but if you still want the circle shape, I would recommend a Fiskar’s “Round and Round” trimmer. You can find them at Michaels.

And… I’m also in love with Edward Cullen! I am just finishing the fourth Twilight book right now. There was a part in the third one where he said he didn’t like strawberry blondes and I nearly cried - and then I had to remind myself that I am engaged, so it’s ok!

Awww Dumpling… you should’ve told me about your project sooner. I have a machine that will cut different types of paper into any shape, form or size! Still looks cute though and the cards will give you more space for guests names anyway!

Fiskar makes an awesome squeeze punch. I used Illustrator to make round tags with our Monogram on them for napkin rings on our tables. Then I used the Fiskars 2″ squeeze punch to punch them all out. I also made stickers for all our favor bags with a different monogram on them. It was so easy to use. I got it at Michaels with a 1/2 off coupon… Best $8 I spent on the whole wedding.

I like the proportions of the original better just because the business-card sized labels seem to overwhelm the pretty, little candy.

Have you considered printing on round labels to achieve the round effect? Sandwich a toothpick between two labels (either both w/ name or one side blank), poke into a candy, et voila.

SO AWESOME. I gotta admit, I’m going to steal this idea for our wedding. What better than to have chocolate guide our guests to their seats. Cute and yummy? - Score!

@MagPie518: Thanks for the tip!@Miss Peep Toe: Its so not cheesy! Its kinda hot!
@Mrs. Emerald: Me too. I love him too. Me and my friend went to see the movie again and just giggled the whole time like teenagers cause hes so hot.
@Jojo: Oh man! Well, maybe I should take everyone’s advice and do the circle thing. I’ll let you know!
@bklyngirl: You are never too old for vampire crushes, I always say.

If you don’t want to go for circles, an easier way to jazz it up would be a corner rounder!

I really like your placecard idea… cute… The business card works but to make it “wow” I suggest cutting it down to make a flag… narrow rectangle, triangle, any shape really, just smaller….the large card overpowers the candy… but a small one will be just right and guests will still be able to read there names, I’m sure. Good luck.

Love Twilight! I told FH he’s lucky Edward Cullen is fictional. ;). Also, if you do go see the movie, don’t go in with any expectations. It’s a pretty good movie, but very very low budget. Hopefully New Moon will have a bigger budget and will be a little better.

I love the place card idea! I think the rectangle cards would be fine.

I love this idea! Adorable.

And…I am also in love Edward Cullen. I am about 100 pages away from the end of the last book and the only thing I can do at work, besides think of vampires, is read WB!

i ended up taking the second book with me to puerto rico, then finished it, almost went berserk because i didnt bring the third book, finished the third book as soon as i got home….

and now i’m pretty much foaming at the mouth trying not to read the last book. i have to save at least ONE for the honeymoon!
