Gifting the Groom

December 5th, 2008 @ 2:43 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

With the winter holidays right around the corner I’ve had gift giving on my mind quite a bit lately. This got me thinking about wedding day gifts for my groom. From the beginning I’ve wanted to make sure to remember to pick something up for him to open the morning of W day, but what to give?

Mr. Lemonade is the least metro guy I know and is not into jewelry, cufflinks, etc. For Christmas last year I hooked him up with an awesome watch, so that’s out. He’s also incredibly practical so I fear something frivolous and fun wouldn’t be the best bet either.

Can you help me?! I want the gift to be thoughtful, manly, and well received (duh). Of course I’ll be pairing it with a lovely card filled with ooey-gooey sentiments ‘cuz that’s just how I roll.

What did/are you getting for your guy on W day?

It depends on your budget, but maybe season tickets to his favorite sports team?

If you’re crafty, and have time, maybe a photo album? I made one for my bf of his college friends/years/memories for graduation and it makes him SUPER happy every time he sees it. Maybe make one of your prewedding memories for him to flip through before the ceremony?

It sounds kind of cheesy, but my bf calls it the best present ever still, and thinks it’s better than the car he got me for my graduation…..I wish, lol.

I got him the “Game Over” t-shirt.

Every time he wears it, someone says “Your wife know you have that shirt?” Heh.

I’ve also been wondering what to give my hubby to be on our wedding day. I’m glad you posted this & will be checking back to hopefully see more ideas in the comments!

There is so much you can do!!!
Something creative/personal you can never go wrong…
So for example, my guy loves Charlie Brown and snoopy. There is a book called “Happiness is…” written by Schultz. So I bought that book, but I was going to make a personnal one too where I make a blurb/shutterfly book (havent decided which) and will do a photo of the wonderful things we have done together and on each page say something like: “Happiness is holding your hand… Happiness is spending rainy days with you… Happiness is riding our bikes together… But love is that warm feeling inside when i think of you and all the memories we have yet to make together” or some cheesy kind of thing… But maybe you can use his fav character like Calvin or Hobbes or a comic thing- but do your own spin on it?

Or another idea is to integrate something he is passionate about (my Fi loves road cycling), so mabe getting your guy a signed/autographed sports memorabilia…like a Jersey…. then wear it in some photos you put in a book- but then give the book to him with the signed item on your W day?

You have to check out DNA 11 - http://www.dna11.com, a company that creates art from your DNA and they make ones for couples - also fingerprints and lips.
They have a new one called the mini - I think a DNA Mini Portrait is cool. Check it out at http://www.dna11.com. It will blow the man in your life away - it’s different and cool.

I have been writing in a journal for every day for a year (we have been engaged for 19months!) with a reason of why I want to marry him - I think a bee did this too. And then I plan to either give him a gaming console (like the xbox) or the akai mpc player cuz he had to sell his when we first started dating. I figure getting him stuff that have to do with his personal hobbies shows that I want to support them even in marriage. :)

You could make a Blurb book of pictures documenting your relationship pre-wedding! I would be a nice thing for both of you to have actually.

I also think a sport event or concert tickets would be great, something you two can do together thats more focused on him.

I’m going to do a boudiur photoshoot and give him an album of the pics. I’ve always wanted to do one and I think my fiance would REALLy enjoy it. I wouldn’t have the guts to do it later on when I’m older and stuff. know what i mean?

I am giving him budoir photos and a gift certificiate to go heli-skiing (they drop you off at the top of a mountain via helicopter and you ski down), which is something he’s been dying to do. I plan to include a note in his card about how the adventure of a life time is beginning with our wedding, and how I plan to support him in making all of his dreams come true. This website has ideas for “gifting ” people with experiences. http://www.gifts.com/categories/experiential/ohrai86cp?sid=google:GENTYP_experience%20gift%20ideas:P&gclid=CPfqi7irqpcCFQ0xawodxkzHjg

Bonus if you can find something you’re both dying to do!

Speaking as a groom to be, I agree with your fiance. I would want something practical. Maybe a new iPod that is engraved with his name. You can load it with music and movies so that it can be of use on your honeymoon. Or if he has an iPod, you can get portable speakers for when you go to the beach or to hang out in your hotel room.

Another suggestion is a portable DVD player which is great for traveling. Now they have an iPod video player that works the same as the portable DVD players. Check it out on Linens N’ Things since they are going out of business.

The idea of the jersey is very clever and I’m sure he’ll like it.

If he is into drinking you can give him the beertender from Heineken - http://www.beertender.com/ - one of the greatest inventions of the XXI century.

I would get him something that HE would enjoy it vs. something that it would be for the two of you.

I got Mr. Peng golf clubs, and I never got around to doing this but if you want him to “open” something on the wedding day you could give him a toy version of a putter or something (because obviously a set of clubs is like ginormous and you dont want to lug them over to your hotel!)

I’m also getting him poker chips for christmas, like a really nice set, but that might make a good wedding gift too, if he likes poker! That’s pretty manly and whatnot :)

what about a nice razor and shaving kit? My FH loves his, but then again he does run a men’s grooming store. So that could just be him….

Is he into techie stuff, or sports? does he need a GPS?

My fiance proposed at a winery, so I enrolled us in the wine club there - a gift we both will enjoy!

I love Pengy’s toy version idea so there is something to open!! (Though, I did a Boudior book so i wont be putting that idea to use.)

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately too. I also want the gift to be something that can last. He’s loves all sorts of techie gadgets and apple products, but I just don’t know that it will make the right wedding gift.

He is into tools etc. so I’m thinking of a table saw because that is something that lasts for awhile and he can create furniture and other fun things for our first home. He also is a surfer, so I’m thinking of maybe ordering a custom surf board with some sort of quote or song on it. Basically random ideas with no real direction yet.

What about some engraved cuff links? I got my fiance these awhile ago, and he loved them. It’s also something he can wear on the wedding day.

We are doing something that a friend’s brother did. When they got married, they gave each other a new perfume/cologne and they wore it that day and on other special occasions. Now, when one of them misses the other they can spray it on theirpillow and remember all of their most special memories.

My guy is a tech geek. So he is getting a Flip HD. It is something he wants and can use while site-seeing on the minimoon.

hehe…. if you’re gutsy, why not boudoir photos? It’s really special and (very) personal, and he’ll FLIP! And anyways, it’s something he can remember you by when you’re on a business trip. >:)

boudoir photos. I’m not sure if that is what I’ll be giving my husband on our wedding day due to lack of extra cash but if I had the money I would TOTALLY do it. It seems so fun and what better time to present him with such a sexy fun gift. Face it…we’re only getting older so this age is the best you’re gonna look so you might want to document you’re tight & toned body and what guy wouldn’t love that?

my fiance loves to play the guitar. I found guitar picks you can personalize on etsy! You can have a lyric from your first dance, or whatever you want engraved on it.

This gift won’t last, but I have always heard great things about those “beer of the month” subscriptions. And of course, boudoir photos! I got Mr. T an ipod touch for his 30th bday last month, and he was super excited.

@beaninca: Thanks. It helps me understand what my bride is thinking. She found Weddinbee when researching for venues as we are getting married at the same venue as Mrs. Cupcake. Now we are both addicted to WB.

Well that’s just bizarre.

I am doing the boudoir photos and making a blurb book out of them, and as a surprise for the honeymoon I am having a helicopter bring us from the airport to our resort. He has always wanted to ride in a helicopter, and really when else are we going to do something like that!

We agreed that the honeymoon was our gift to each other, but that we’d exchange something small if we thought of something meaningful.

I gave DH a custom return address stamp. Sexy? No. But it was really special to him that I changed my last name to his, so it was the first thing with our together with my new name. He was really touched. …plus we use it all the time ;)

While my fiancee is totally metro, I wanted something more personal. I’m going for something personal to his love for great music… and our vintage/Beatles themed wedding. I’m giving him a vintage record player he’s been wanting and I’m hunting down some of his favorite albums on vinyl.

We love to travel, and my fiancee loves maps, so I got him a really cool map (at Metsker’s Maps in Seattle) and I’m going to have it framed and give him a sappy card about all the places we will go together. I’m also looking into surprising him by having a helicopter pick us up after the reception (maybe by giving him a little mini-copter in a box?), but I haven’t worked out all the details!

I bought my husband custom Chuck Taylors in our wedding colors (with our wedding date stitched into the heel strip). He LOVED them. Here’s a picture: http://tinyurl.com/4z5h3g.
He wore them for all pre-wedding photos & changed into them for the reception, too! I also bought him vintage cufflinks & a tie, but the Chucks were, by far, the best part of the gift. Here’s a link to the Converse website where you can design your own shoes: http://tinyurl.com/4a53×9.
