About Mrs. Bee

Time for Another Batch!

December 8th, 2008 @ 5:56 pm by Mrs. Bee

When we introduced shoes, you guys went totally gaga over them!  Mrs. Penguin and I thought that stiletto would be the first to be snatched right up.

shoes.jpg

But the shoes have actually been some of our least popular characters to date, with new bees opting to be hors d’oeurves or makeup instead.  We got to talking, and neither Mrs. Penguin or I could see ourselves as a shoe either.  I mean you gotta have a certain type of personality to want to be Miss Stiletto, ;) and I think the Bees really pick characters that they identify with in some way.

So I think it may be time to start thinking about our next batch of characters for the new year!  We’ve already done bugs, flowers, fruits, gems, vegetables, candy, birds, desserts, tropical fruit, drinks, hors d’oeurves, shoes, and makeup.

Some popular ideas that have been tossed around in the past include spices, nuts, herbs, and trees, but we’ve always opted not to do them because they all look so similar. Animals and sea creatures have come up as well, but we’ve tried to keep the characters somewhat wedding related (this is still definitely an option though).   Perhaps seasonal icons like Miss Snowflake, Leaf, Sunshine, Dew Drop, Rainbow?

If you were to become a Bee, what character would you want to be?

I think I would like to be a zodiac sign. Either one of our birth signs or the sign of our wedding date.

Bee what would you be if you weren’t a bee? Something spicy, like a chili pepper? I can’t see myself as anything but a waddling little bird either. Maybe a duck. Miss Ducky.

What about various berries… would they be hard to differentiate? Obviously we have some berries already, so that might not be a great category…

What about drink garnishes? Olive, Maraschino cherry, whipped cream, cranberry, mint, cinnamon stick, etc

http://www.dvo.com/newsletter/monthly/2004/june/tabletalk3.html

a lot of these are already actual bees!

OK, I am an alcoholic. Byeeeeee!

Oh! Signs! Well I don’t blog. So I can’t be a Bee. (Boo… but a girl has to keep her head on straight during grad school! Though I have been on this site religously)
Things I love if I were to be anything, would be a sign- such as a chinese character (I am a monkey btw).
But I also like descriptors. Such as *sparkles*, or breezy, cloudy, congenial, chime, earthy, sweet, hot tamale.
Animals? Bunny, Fawn, Owl, Bear…
Fish? Starfish, horsefish, Otter?
You could do colors- or Pies!
I tend to do ridiculous things when I am in writers block– like put a post it that stimulates my thinking (ex sensual chocolate)… Oh— you could do chocolates!
But I am unique like that. =o)

I like Bee’s idea of the season and Peng’s garnishments but you can’t forget Tabasco a la Mrs. Bee herself. Or just colors?

Oh, or celebratory paraphernalia? Does that make sense? Miss sparkler, confetti, balloons, bubbles…

Or, popular types of wedding favors?

Thinking out loud here.

@guarder: Haha, no offense taken!

I think the idea behind the birds were that birds are a popular wedding “theme” of late :) But yes, penguins are definitely NON wedding related!

Miss d’Orsay for sure! Though I suppose that doesn’t really help since we’re looking at non shoe options.

I like drink garnishes though, its quite creative. I suppose there are always colors to be done, scarlet, lavender, perriwinkle etc.

what about craft supplies (glue, yarn, ribbon, scissors, rubber stamp, thimble, quill, paintbrush…)?

or games (horseshoes, hopscotch, 4 square, jump rope, marbles, billiards, chess, poker…)?

or lucky charms (rainbow, horseshoe, four leaf clover, rabbit’s foot, coin, star, wishbone…)?

Maybe instead of just “animals” you could break it down into different types. I like sea creatures or even jungle animals would be fun. I can already think of some ones I would want to choose.

On a wedding theme…kitchen items like from a registry or when you do a themed shower? Ok maybe a little wierd, but think of the possibilities: Miss Spatula, Miss Fork, Miss Mixer, Miss Rolling Pin, Miss Cookie Sheet…haha.

Or bathroom registry items: Miss Towel, Miss Plunger, Miss Toothbrush? Miss Soap Dispenser…Just Kidding! Can you tell it’s been a long day?

But being serious I like different animal themes.

I’m not sure how this could be represented in an icon, but I thought various types of poetry would be cute. Miss Haiku? Miss Limerick? Mrs. Sonnet? That would be pretty neat!

Another idea would be to go with some pajama/undergarment icons. You could have a Miss Corset, Miss Garter, Mrs. Babydoll, even Miss Petticoat or Miss Pantaloon! There could also be Mrs. Camisole or Mrs. Slip too. I think there’s plenty of classy and cute options without resulting to a ‘Miss G-Sting’ or anything like that.

I would absolutely be a cowboy boot, but I think that’s because I’m from Texas! :)

Maybe cake flavors? German Chocolate, Confetti, Angel Food, Red Velvet…ok, I’m going to go make some brownies now!

the seasonal and nut ideas are great. i also like locations (beach, mountains, dessert, lake shore, hill top, downtown, uptown, etc), fabric/pattern (polka dot, damask, paisley, cashmere, cotton, chiffon, hounds tooth, plaid, gingham, etc), and i would love purses (clutch, messenger, handbag, satchel, tote, etc)

guarder says… wedding related? I don’t think the icon needs to be wedding related. I think it should just be a cute way of relating to a person… But so be it… Hmm- What about firefly? Butterfly? Those might be at weddings… Or a Hankerchief… Doilies? Ohhhh. Fabric! Miss Lace, Miss Silk, Miss Cotton, Miss Doilie, or Miss Chifon! Candles-Miss Flame? Miss Starry Skies? Miss Fleur de Leis? Miss Peace (as in peace sign). Miss Pearl…
*Do I get a prize for coming up with the most ideas??? ;o)

Man, I’d totally be Miss Stiletto: chic, powerful, slightly dangerous. Plus that icon is no ordinary stiletto; that is a luscious pair of Louboutins. Sigh. Oh well.

Also, what about jewelry and/or accessories? earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, purse, scarf…

I love the craft idea, since a lot of brides like DIY projects. I would love to be Miss Scrapbook! I also love Mrs. Penguin’s ideas of the garnishes or celebratory paraphanelia. I know this wouldn’t apply to all brides, but I like nautical themed icons since a lot of brides do beach weddings miss sandcastle, miss starfish, miss anchor, etc. I don’t think it would work for everyone though. I would be Miss Starfish if you did something beach related. The registry idea is also wicked cute. I don’t really have naything new to add, I just really liek what people have been coming up with so far :)

Okay…this is probably because I am an English major, but I would love to be a type of book/publication.

Miss Atlas (great for a traveler!)
Miss How-To Manual (for the DIY bride?)
Miss Notebook (for a writer?)
Miss Textbook (college bride?)
Miss Comic Book
Miss Newspaper (for a journalist?)
Miss Novel
Miss Magazine
Miss Encyclopedia
Miss Cookbook (for the chef?)
Miss Photo Album (for a photographer?)
Miss TV Guide
Miss Dictionary (for someone wordy?)
Miss Thesaurus

You get the picture, I’m sure. Some people might think the icons would have to look all alike since they are all books, but I think there’s a lot you could do to differentiate the icons.

I’d have been Miss Cupcake but that’s long gone. Someone suggested crafty items which I love, Miss Ribbon or Miss Quill would be right up my street and there seems to be quite a few crafty folks about.

I don’t really have a category for this but they’re the kind of things that pop up in bridal magazines: Miss Glamorous, Miss Thrifty, Miss Country, Miss Vintage, Miss Modern, Miss Crafty, Miss Fashionista, Miss Chic, etc. I guess they’re styles really.

I also like the idea of western zodiac signs and chinese zodiac signs.

Different beach themes would also be awesome since I’m planning one myself =) You could also do themes for every season… Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter (snowflake, etc)

I love the ideas of purses/bags and craft supplies. I think the latter would be easier as far as distinguishable icons.

Personally, I would probably be something boring like a pair sensible pumps or a law treatise. If we were craft supplies I would love to be scissors, but would they be the safety scissors of elementary or the antique, wicked;y pointy ones my grandmother has that I’m almost still scared to use?

I’d be Miss Spork if I could be a Bee with a name of any choice. . .

I like the different types of fabrics, but I think that’d be hard to illustrate: Miss Silk, Miss Lace, Miss Organza.

What about gems? Miss Sapphire, Miss MoonStone, Miss Emerald, Miss Ruby, Miss Pearl, Miss Aquamarine, etc.

Have cookies been done? Miss Gingerbread/Gingersnap, Miss Chocolate Chip, Miss Snickerdoodle, Miss Sugar, etc

Or relating it to wedding choose the better names for “traditional” anniversary gifts. Miss Crystal, Miss China, Miss Sugar, Miss Coral, Miss Ruby, Miss Gold, Miss Silver. Maybe not. There aren’t too many of those.

Maybe trees/leaves? Miss Evergreen, Miss Cherry Blossom, Miss Maple, Miss Ivy, Miss Fern

Sigh. I just remembered gems and cookies have already been done. They were fazing out just about when I started reading the boards. No wonder the names sounded so good! (Though in my defense I always read “Miss GB” and “gigabyte” rather than “ginger bread” despite the cute icon she had.)

Spring:

Summer:

Mrs. Penguin’s cocktail garnishes and celebratory paraphernalia are the best suggestions, I think. Who can deny Miss Bubbles is the cutest name ever? Miss Confetti is great. Miss Balloons, maybe not. That is kinda like Miss Juggs… Which might be somebody’s style? Miss Petals. Miss Paper Airplane (I’ve seen it done). Miss Lavendar. Miss Pinwheel. Miss Kazoo… Miss Blowout… (like the birthday things…) Dessert flavors are the next best. And, since we have so many fashionable ladies, bridal accessories would be something new. (borrowed, blue…)

When I read this post, I instantly thought I would be Miss Starfish and aparently several other posters felt the same way, so maybe it is time to break into animals and sea creatures. I also think countries oculd be fun, I noticed posters on the boards from North America and Europe and it could be fun to represent your current place of residence. Bees could also identify with the country of their destination wedding or honeymoon or family history. I want to be a Bee very much but my wedding is not until 2010. I’ll start a wedding blog in 2009 so I can eventually apply so let’s save starfish for a batch in early 2010 ;)

I have to admit - I miss the plants. I chose my username based on the flower theme (yes, I just dated myself). (with typo since I wanted to reserve the real thing for when I became a “bee”…).

Love the tree concept though:
Miss Oak
Miss Pine
Miss Cyprus
Miss Cedar
Miss Birch
Miss Bonsai
:)

@Mrs. Penguin:
I think in a way penguins can be related though! If you think about a penguin’s story (I love hearing about it over and over) and how they find their mate for life, then this is like us marrying (hopefully) our mate for life :)

This may have been mentioned already, but how about wedding items/ideas? Pretty ones, that is. Like Miss Garter, Miss Tiara, Miss Something Blue, Miss Gocco ;), Miss Bubbles, Miss Rose Petals, Miss Bustier, Miss Cake, etc.

Or, how about a shout out to the grooms? After all, the “last name”, in reality, will be theirs - so why not groom related items? (Like what they might choose as their own ‘fake last name). Miss Cufflink, Miss Loafer, Miss Tux, Miss Boutonniere, Miss Cologne - or even some fun ones like Miss iPhone, Miss Playstation, Miss Ninja, whatever.

We all know half of them would pick stuff like that anyway - and claim it’s wedding related ;)

If precious stones haven’t been done yet, I suggest that! Miss Ruby, Miss Diamond, Miss Emerald, Miss Sapphire, Miss Amethyst, Miss Crystal, Miss Pearl, etc. I would adore any of those (pearl especially!)

I would love to be a cooking-related item, since that’s my first love. I also really like the garnishes idea and the crafting, since this is a site where lots of people are encouraged to DIY the wedding. Super cute!

I’m late in responding, but I really like the idea of:

Celebratory Items suggested by Mrs. Penguin(sparklers, confetti, bubbles, petals, poppers, birdseed, lavendar, etc) and Lucky Charms.

What about carnival food (cotton candy, popcorn, funnel cake, corn dog, sno-cone, candied apple, elephant ear)

I just thought of the perfect name that I would want:

Miss Teacup!

I have no idea where it would fit in as far as categories, but I am in love with tea and going out for tea (I’ve only done it 3 times, but love it!) and my sister is throwing me a tea themed bridal shower. Maybe if you did registry itmes it could be an option?

I’d be Miss Doily… my wedding is shaping up to be vintage-y, quirky, and inspired by a doily my late grandmother embroidered that happened to be in my pre-determined colors of yellow and grey.

I think that new bees should just be able pick what they want to be called regardless of the timing of when they apply or whatever the rules are about that… but that’s just me. *shrug*
