Yes, Miss Etiquette, We’re Using Labels.

Dear Miss Etiquette,

I am doing the unthinkable; I’m using labels to address our wedding invitations and I don’t care what you think. In my defense, we were planning on using a calligraphy type to print onto our envelopes, but the dark red color of the envelope makes it difficult to see the address, so labels it is. You may judge all you want, but Martha Stewart doesn’t think it’s so bad and neither do we.

Sincerely,
Ms. Sushi

Are there any etiquette rules that you’re breaking?

I’m sure I’m breaking thousands but I too am going to use labels - the reason I’m making my own is to save money so why would I pay someone more then the cost of the invitations to write on an envelope?
Yes, i’m going to use the pretty fonts and I will print it all out on the clear labels, and I’m sure that someone will say something, but it’s 2008!
I love the ones you pictured here and they look lovely!!
I say you do what you need to do and as long as they look nice and you are happy about them then go for it!!
Rule Breaker!!

Rule breaker!!

I probably broke a lot. But, I just hand wrote the addresses and the return address (and I have pretty shitty/slanted handwriting)… It turned out fine and people still came to our wedding ;)

Rock on you. I’m already anticipating the conniption fit my mother will have when I tell her that I’d rather spend money on say, a few extra guests than a calligrapher. I might have to take a few self-defense classes… alas.

Those labels are really pretty! They don’t even count as regular labels, they are more like envelope decoration! :)

I wrote the addresses myself on my invitations, nothing fancy just my regular handwriting. Nobody said anything to me about it. It was way cheaper than having someone do calligraphy and cheaper than labels too because all I had to buy was the pen in the color I wanted. I say do whatever works for you!

We’re doing labels too! Not the kind you have shown…just regular labels…in my defense, they are in one of our wedding colors though! :)

I agree, those labels are beautiful! Who could say anything to those? :) We used plain clear labels for our save the dates and have been trying to figure out a nicer solution for the envelopes. Thanks for posting this!!! :)

I would def. use labels if I didn’t already plan on impressing my mother’s picture perfect English teacher cursive into service! I haven’t mentioned this to her yet, but I’m sure she’ll agree if threatened with labels :)

I’m planning on breaking the same rule you are. I love the wrap around labels and a cute font would look better than my handwriting. I’d love to do calligraphy, but we can’t justify the extra expense. I am thinking of trying to learn though…

Be SUPER careful with those wrap around labels! My friend used them for bridal shower invites, and she recieved about 15 of them (the labels, not the envelopes) back in the mail. They had completely fallen off! However, they looked FABULOUS, so we gorilla glued them back on.

I just made those wrap-around martha labels, I love them! I made them by creating a template in InDesign, typing in all the addresses manually (not as tedious as it sounds, but I only had about 40 to do), and printing on regular paper. Then I cut them out using a paper cutter and glued them on with a glue stick. Worked great!

Worldlabel.com » Five Label-Smart Wedding Ideas

[...] Weddingbee: Miss Sushi wanders away from the boundaries set by Miss Etiquette as she uses labels to address her wedding envelopes. This is especially useful if your handwriting stinks and you don’t want to hire a calligrapher! You can use a script font to print out the labels, and we’re sure no one will complain. The use of labels for envelopes allows much more room to choose a creative invitation, one with a darker envelope like the one Miss Sushi used. [...]
