Label Help

December 9th, 2008 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Crab Cake

Y’all, I’m going in a hundred directions right now! I can’t get a grip on anything. I guess there are too many decisions I need to be making, like, right now.

So I need your help. I know you haven’t seen any of my stationery; I’m holding out because I want to have them finished before I show y’all everything, but I’m struggling with this one niggling decision.

Like Miss Sushi (and several other bees), we too are using labels. Our envelopes are black and I have awful handwriting and no desire to hire a calligrapher. We’re also using #10 envelopes, so I have a very long, skinny area to work with. Without giving away too much, I’m using the same font throughout the suite. I had no intention of using a script font until a few days ago, and I really just wanted to see what I thought. And now I’m not sure.

So here are my label mock-ups.

Version #1: All the same great block font that’s used throughout the invitation suite

Verison #2: Same great label, now with the best matching script I could find

So, what do you guys think?

LOVE the first one. And thank you for posting. We are using a travel/compass rose theme for our wedding and this is a great design!

I like version #1, looks more cohesive with fewer fonts… and I say this out of love and desire to save you trouble/pain, but double-check the spelling of “recipient” before you print…

Version 1. easier to read and also using the same font throughout holds everything together.

I like #1 the best. I agree that it looks more cohesive and it is easier to read.

I think 1 matches the compass better, 2 is a little too flowery for the straight lines. Also, 1 helps your ‘J&M’ stand out a little more.

I agree, #1 works best

The first one–being that your space is small you want a block font for legibility. Plus it looks more elegant.

I like the script version. It’s more formal and fun!

I generally am a fan of script, but I think version 1 works much better with the compass and your return address font.

Like most everyone else- I think #1 looks better. With the compass motif the script kind of gets lost. The block font stands out better.

For the address readability is key. Go with #1.

Another vote for #1. It really balances the whole thing.

While I’m usually partial to script, I am going to go for the cohesive look of #1. Nice design!

I personally like #1 better because to me it is clearer. The script font in #2 may be difficult to read if you are only working with a small space and with USPS we want everything to run clearly and smoothly!!

I love the design! I like #1 better. And you’ve probably already caught this, but there’s a typo in recipient.

I like #1 better, and I agree that it’s easier to read than the script.

What I did with my labels is use script for their name but block print for the address (so it’s easier for the mail man to read).
