Mrs. Glitter's Picture
Mrs. Glitter, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 27, Research Consultant/Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Accounting Engagement Date: May 6, 2007 Wedding Date: June, 2009 Venue: Millenium Biltmore Hotel About Me: I was born and raised in West Los Angeles, California. I spent eight years in the Northeast working and completing my education. Having split time between two sides of the country has given me a true appreciation for both coasts. It has also provided an overabundance of cross country drives, flights and long distance relationship fun/misery! I love my family, my doggy Emma, fabulous wine, Anthropologie, politics, reading, being outdoors, exploring new cities, and good movies! My fiance and I are complete opposites, but somehow we have managed to fall completely and hopelessly in love.
About Mrs. Glitter

We’ve been engaged for nearly 1.5 years! Stay tuned for a post on our engagement story in the future. A two-year engagement allows for a lot of laziness. Our time line is stretched double or maybe even triple the average engagement. Case in point: it took us a year to have our engagement pictures taken! But at the risk of sounding cliche, it was worth the wait.

We heart our wedding photographer, Toby Morris of Toby Morris Photography. He’s the best-kept secret of Los Angeles photography! He’d probably laugh if he heard me say that because he’s the most humble, down to earth guy. We loved that his personality was so laid back, go with the flow, and chill. Don’t get me wrong - it’s not like he’s going to fall asleep behind the camera. He’s serious about his craft. But he put us at ease and made us feel like we were lounging at home… not having professional pictures taken.

Here’s a selection from our May 2008 shoot at Rustic Canyon Park in the Santa Monica Canyon. (Some of these aren’t edited yet… yep, that’s my lazy bride-ness showing again…)

This was my fav backdrop because it reminded me of a Northeastern barn!

Our little picnic!

We originally had three different locations scouted for our shoot, but then at the last minute, we decided to stay at one location: a local park that held fond memories of tree climbing and tire swinging for me. I wanted a nature-y, outdoors-y feel for these pics because our wedding venue is in the hub of downtown L.A. We’d get enough “urban chic” shots during the wedding. Even though I’m from a huge city, I love and appreciate nature in all its beauty and splendor. How else could I have survived living in small cities like Ithaca, NY and Northampton, MA?! (Cities that I adore, by the way)

Did your engagement photography reflect the style of your wedding or did you opt for a completely different backdrop?

We have a two year engagement too! It feels just right for us (though we’re about 6 months away and feeling just a bit antsy). We weren’t planning on doing engagement pics, but then I remembered that my roommate likes being artsy with photos and we used our college campus (Michigan State) as a backdrop. I love the pictures and we had a lot of fun!

I neglected the proper link to our photographer’s website. If anyone is interested, it is http://www.tobymorris.com/weddings.

@Jeana: Thanks, friend!
@emrw: I went to grad school in Ithaca. Loved it, and became quite the expert at driving in ginormous snow storms :)
@historybride: Yay for long engagements and artsy friends!
@Miss Meatball: Thanks! Open space in west L.A. is tough to come by.

So pretty! And don’t worry about how long it took to take them, they look great. Our engagement will be 2.5 years when we are married, so you are not alone.

You brought up a really good question about if the engagement pictures and wedding reflect each other. For us, not at all. We are getting married in the Riviera Maya on a beach (perhaps in a cenote) and our engagement pictures will be done in Chicago. Can’t really get more opposite than that. ;)

Great pics - I especially love the one you use for your Save The Dates :)
FH and I are thinking of taking our Engagement Pictures in Downtown SD b/c our Wedding venue is a winery - so we’re planning the opposite of what you did :)

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!!
@Mrs. Penguin: Thanks for the fix, Pengy!
@Heather: Yep, grad school!
@AliCherri1: Ooh, it sounds like you are gonna have some beautiful pictures!
@Miss Hot Cocoa: I wish I edited them! I made it sound like I did, didn’t I? Actually, our photographer took hundreds of pics and we got to choose a bundle of as many as we liked. He edited our picks. I was lazy in getting him the bundle of approved pics. Did I mention I’m not uber-type A? hahahhaa :)
@PurpleLime: I’m absolutely a Smithie!! Are you? :)
