Married in Montana: Afterward, the View

December 9th, 2008 @ 12:18 pm by Mrs. Cherry Pie

After showing you all those guest pictures of our wedding recently, it seems only fitting to share with you a few more photos that I took, afterward.

(Morning at Apgar Dock, Lake McDonald, 9/8)

The day after our wedding (which was Sunday, 9/7) turned out to be sunny and amazing. It was a bit of a letdown to see clear skies after the intermittent rain on our wedding day, but mostly it was invigorating to be able to get outside in the sunshine.

Many of our guests were traveling home that day, but the friends and family who weren’t used the opportunity to go up to Logan Pass for some low-key sight-seeing/hiking.

My parents wanted to do some hiking too, but they ended up coming back from Polebridge with TWO flat tires (slow leaks) and had to be towed into town for repairs.

Remember how I said the dirt road was rough in places? We nicknamed this pothole (on a PAVED section) “the Widowmaker.”

We encouraged people to take the bus for a reason!!

Thankfully, some of the family was able to carpool in a rental up to the pass and we met them on the way back from our hike.

There were some high clouds at first, but the day turned out completely clear. It was beautiful!

After walking the Highline trail for a while with our good friends, we came back to the car to find this Bighorn Sheep in the parking lot. He was licking something off the pavement… I hope it wasn’t antifreeze!

The sunset that night was amazing. Lake McDonald was so calm…

The next morning, we had breakfast with my parents, grandparents, and sisters in their (giant!) cabin at Apgar Village. That’s where I took the photo at the top of this post. Everything was utterly picturesque.

As Mr. CP and I readied ourselves for the 10-hour drive home and the next day’s flight to Zihuatanejo, the sun crested the east ridge of the lake, vapor rose from the surface like breath…

Everything was calm, perfect, and wonderful. A good omen for the start of a new marriage.

Next up: Honeymooning in Zihuatanejo!

Amazing pics. We went on the same hike, I think, some years back, but our parking-lot encounter was with a few overly friendly mountain goats.

I am loving that you took a hike the day after your wedding! That is what we are planning to do, only in a less popular section of Estes Park. Your pictures make me even more excited to go to Glacier with FI this summer (it holds a special place in his heart as he graduated from MSU).

Every time I read one of your recaps, I am in awe of the beauty of your location! I agree with Miss Meatball, those pictures should be in National Geographic!

You’ve had the most amazing story, the whole way through! A big-horned sheep!?!?! I can’t even imagine coming across one of those!

Hi, I’d just like to say that the Apgar Dock picture is absolutely beautiful! I was wondering if you might be able to email the full resolution one to me–I just want it as a wallpaper for my desktop. I promise I won’t use it for graphics design or anything like that, just personal use. Thank you, and congratulations on your marriage!
