About Mrs. Peep Toe

Presents for Moi? Why, Thank You!!

December 9th, 2008 @ 4:40 pm by Mrs. Peep Toe

So I have to say that registering was on the top of my list of things I was looking forward to in wedding planning. I know, it’s so selfish of me, but Mr. Peep Toe and I have a ridiculous amount of hand me downs, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on something new—new dishes, new forks, new towels, new glasses, new everything!

The shopoholic in me was just way too excited. But the ecoholic in me knew that buying everything new would be bad. So, the first place we registered at was Viva Terra: Eco Living with Style. Check out these recycled plates, aren’t they awesome?

But much to our chagrin, the site is fairly limited, so over my birthday month* I coerced Mr. Peep Toe to register at Williams-Sonoma and Crate and Barrel.

Williams-Sonoma was fairly easy to register at: pots, pans, bake ware, and of course, I had to have a mixer (the highlight of any good registry in my opinion). But Mr. Peep Toe had his eye on something else… knives!! It’s no secret that the Mr. is the cook in the family. And since all I have ever had are hand me downs, the world of knives was (and still is) a mystery to me. So we registered for a set of Global Knives, but we weren’t done yet. Mr. Peep Toe found a very expensive knife he wanted. It was so hard to argue with him because I had just registered for a stand mixer, so it is on our registry. Ridiculous yes, but now he feels included!!**

Next up was Crate and Barrel. I had perused online and thought it was a perfect place to round out our registry. Boy, was I wrong. Mr. Peep Toe and I fought the entire time about what we liked, but mostly about what we didn’t like!! We registered for a few things, including Organic Towels, and Bamboo Bathroom stuff, but not what I was hoping for. We still needed dishes, drinking glasses, flatware, etc. Urggg.

At this point in the day, I thought we were done with registering. All we had to do was pop over to Bloomingdale’s and pick up a wedding present for Mr. Peep Toe’s sister’s wedding. Again, I was wrong.

As we walked into Bloomingdale’s after a bite to eat for both of us to refresh, Mr. Peep Toe eagerly said, “Now, here is where we should register!” Seriously, Mr. Peep Toe? Once again, his champagne taste peeked through on our Bud Light budget.

And then as we were waiting for our gift to be wrapped, Mr. Peep Toe and I started to actually agree on a few items. It was like a miracle moment!! So we registered at Bloomies.

See Mr. Peep Toe trying to contain his excitement?

We didn’t register for the fancy china, crystal or silver (I knew I didn’t want any of that stuff), but for everyday stuff. And honestly, not only is it about the same price as Crate and Barrel, but this stuff goes on sale all the time and Scott*** our consultant has been AMAZING!!

So without further ado, here’s a sneak peek into our registry:

Items 1-3: Viva Terra
Items 4-6: Williams-Sonoma
Items 7-9: Crate and Barrel
Items 10-12: Bloomingdale’s

Please tell me that someone else out there struggled with their registry, ended up with some ridiculous items on it, and registered at WAY too many places!??

* Yes I get a birthday month, don’t worry so does Mr. Peep Toe.
** If someone buys us that knife, I don’t know how I can justify keeping it, other than the fact that it will make Mr. Peep toe the happiest man alive.
*** I highly recommend any of the consultants at the Bloomingdale’s in San Francisco (I can’t say the same for the Bloomies in Beverly Hills).

I was so glad to read that we were not the only two who struggled in Crate and Barrel! I too, had the same illusion, and I too, was deflated! I actually told FI that I was concerned about our marriage because we could not even agree on furniture (which he was a sport about, but continues to tease me about on occasion).Ugh! I also have to say that I liked your taste…We registered for some of the same plates you have(3rd row down, second item over).

I’m happy to see you on 4 registries - FH and I registered @ Macys and Crate & Barrel this past Saturday and I still want to go to William Sonoma and maybe Target, but I was worried it was too many :)

I was so tired and dragging by the end of day one of registering (and FI was leaving to go back home to California the next day), that I am doing the rest online!

I should have expected that picking out ALL new things to fill an entire new place would be time-consuming and challenging, but I found that I definitely needed to split up registering and not do it all at once!
Our consultant kept telling us we needed to have 2-3 gifts on our registry per guest. We have a LONG ways to go!
We registered at Macys, Bed, Bath &Beyond and are going to register at Williams-Sonoma

OMG I’m drooling over global knives. But PLEASE tell me where exactly to find those dishes at the bottom left of your board! You guys have great taste… if I do say so, it reminds me of me! :P

So, you must want your kitchen to look exactly like mine! It’s funny that we picked a lot of the same things. I have said many times that registering was the most stressful part of wedding planning.

I love this post! Mr. G and I had a fight over an over-sized lounge chair at Crate and Barrel that he wanted. Finally, we ended up putting it on our registry just for fun. We know no one would ever purchase it and putting furniture on a registry is probably super tacky, but it makes him feel better that it’s there. Men!

It may be silly if it’s on the registry, but at the end most places at least give you like 10% or 20% off whatever is left if you decide to buy it.

I am also a huge fan of extending birthday celebrations but we only celebrate our birth-weeks. Still fun though.

I love the bargaining! My fiance was obsessed with the knives too. Instead of a stand-mixer, our deal was a coffee pot for a knife (he doesn’t drink coffee; I probably drink too much of it). Looking at knives and using the scanner made him a happy boy.
