About Ms Fondue

A Blast from the Past

December 10th, 2008 @ 10:32 am by Ms Fondue

Many young girls dream about their wedding day and what they want it to look like. Some may imagine marrying in the same location their parents did. Some may try to picture what their future groom will look like. Me? I had it all planned out.

Back in high school, my best friend Sabrina (now my maid of honor) and I sat down to plan how we wanted our future weddings to look. We scoured the Internet for photos that represented what items we would choose if we were getting married. Of course, the web was much younger then and wasn’t overflowing in wedding inspiration, but we were able to scrape some things together.

I don’t remember where I imagined my wedding taking place, though I believe, even then, I wanted an outdoor affair. The file where we saved our plans is long gone, but miraculously, I had also uploaded all the photos I had chosen to my website. Even more miraculously, that website still exists and I still remember my password to log in and grab the files. So, I present to you, the wedding of Miss Fondue, as imagined at the tender age of 16.

Here is my imagined engagement ring. I’ve apparently always been more fond of multi-stone rings, since my real ring is a diamond with round ruby accents on the sides.

The invitations I chose were fairly simple - white with some embossed accents and purple text. It seems the website where I got these from no longer exists, however.

For flowers, it looks like I was going with only white. This is much different from my actual pick of all red.

The ring bearer would carry this pillow.

And the flower girl would wear a simple short-sleeved dress.

My bridesmaids would be in a lilac color, while my maid of honor would wear a deeper shade of purple. I believe these are Dessy dresses. I still think they are cute dresses, but I’m letting my maids pick out tea-length black dresses of their choosing.

My groom (I wasn’t dating anyone at the time, so I had no idea who this would be) would be wearing this classic black tuxedo, which I believe is from After Six.

In my younger days, I apparently was more into larger headpieces and fluffy veils, as this is what I picked out to wear on my head (from David’s Bridal). In reality, I’m wearing a simple crystal headband with a one layer veil.

And my gown? A pretty spaghetti-strap princess dress from David’s. These were the days before strapless was all the rage. This dress actually has some similarities to my actual gown, with the beading on the bodice and the fullness of the skirt.

It looks like my younger self was into the more traditional and simple look than my modern counterpart.

Did you imagine your wedding day when you were younger? How do your plans differ from what you wanted when you were younger?

I remember writing stuff like making centerpieces of betta fish in bowls with crystal rocks for kids to take home, my wedding colors would have been lavender and cream, and my wedding favors would have been personalized M&M’s lol! I found those ideas way back when in a hidden folder called “Wedding Secrets” lol!

Oh my lord, I used to LOVE designing wedding dresses as a child (around 8?), I’d have my mom get me bridal magazines and I’d sketch all day long. I’d use the outlines of the girls from Mccalls pattern books and create the dresses from there.

They ALL had huge puffy sleeves and huge skirts.

My dress? A simple sheath dress that has a champagne slip and Ivory lace on top….

I always imagined that I would have a huge, over-the-top wedding. Now, I prefer a smaller, more intimate wedding.

Thanks for sharing :)

This post is so much fun! I never planned mine out too much, other than to have it at my family’s house where my parents, grandparents, etc got married, and I did that! But I definitely think my tastes have gotten more understated over the years.

I pictured it once in my youth, when I was having a hard time imagining that I would be grown up at all. It involved everybody dancing under one of those picnic pavilions in a park, and I would be wearing jeans. I didn’t revisit the subject until half way through college.
I’ve branched out, but the old idea is tempting! Ha!

Aww, I wish I had something like this to look back on, but that’s the anthropology nerd in me wanting to study how tastes and fads change over time :D
