Our Save the Date Color Transformation!

December 10th, 2008 @ 12:00 pm by Mrs. Taffy

Back in September, I showed you the design file for the awesome save the dates that Mr. Taffy’s brother designed for us. Today I would like to show you the final, printed product! :)

Remember how I was hunting for the perfect blue for our color palette and bridesmaid dresses? As a placeholder, we asked Mr. T’s brother to use a gray blue for our save the date design. By the time the gocco came out, we had switched to a color palette using both robin’s egg blue and a darker blue-green for our palette. Take a look at the finished product!

Don’t mind my sloppy name hacking in photoshop!

We did learn a lesson that will help on the invites; the text for “Save the date” was a bit too thin when printed. I must note that I took this image after I had sent these out, and the one that I photographed was especially hard to read. The others did look better than this!

The best part about seeing these “in print” was how glittery the ink was! Here you can see the shimmer peeping through the envelope.

The gocco ink we used is Pearl Kosui (Aqua) in case anyone is interested.

For contrast, here is the original photoshop file, before we chose a color:

I was so happy to send these out! We are planning on using fancy stamps for the invites, so we jumped at the opportunity to put (completely) non matching stamps on our STD’s.

Being the dorky designers that we are, we couldn’t resist these limited edition Eames Stamps. Maybe limited edition stamps would save our hand printed cards the the fate of landing in the trash bin! ;) Even dorkier, if any of our friends owned any of the furniture pictured, they got the matching stamp for their envelope. (See? I still found a way to match something!)

It felt midly (ok, enourmously) liberating to send these off with a stamp that was in no way related to our wedding, but related to our shared interests as a couple. :)

How did you select the postage for your save the dates and invitations?

Did you choose crazy stamps for your save the dates or invites?

digging your STDs in its simple and chic glory!

the ‘perfect’ stamps for my invites came out before i found out postage was going up so i bought a crap load. then we sent out our invites earlier than planned so that the ugly extra 1-cent stamp was used only on the rsvp envelopes :P

great save the dates! So classy and chic.
The stamps were are using for our save-the-dates and invitations… I don’t knw if it will make most people laugh- or think we are obsessed… with our chocolate labrador. Yes. Our stamps are of our dog, a nice little head shot of her. We personalized our stamps to make them more… personal. But my fiance is the one who recommended we use our dog. It might be fitting though, because in lieu of wedding favors, we are donating money to the local animal shelter and asking our guests instead of gifts- to donate to the wwf. =o)

So cute!! May I ask how many screens did it take to do the print job? I don’t think I would know how to use that many colors at once with overlapping colors. :)

@Sparkles: That’s awesome, and I love that it ties in with your charity donation. :)

@FMH: Mr. Taffy’s brother did all of our save the dates, and will be doing our invites too! We are so lucky and happy that he offered to do this for us.

@bugaboo: We didn’t print them (Mr. T’s brother did), but I think I can answer your question. He started out with a white card (eco white from paper source) and printed one screen of blue and one of black. :)

@Mrs. Avocado: @Miss Hot Cocoa: Thanks, ladies! I love them too! Miss Hot Cocoa, you will love the ink!

@Mrs. Green Tea: That’s awesome that you got them out in time! We are still investigating stamps for the invites…

@Miss Glitter: Thanks! I’m glad you like the stamps! :)

I love love love your save the dates! For our save the dates, we used plain old stamps; as for our invitations, I would really like to use something snazzy. I love that your stamps reflect you and Mr. Taffy.

Love the STDs! I was obsessed with our stamps! Our envelopes were a copper stardream so I did half with Frank Sinatra and half with a coppery Minnesota stamp. And for the RSVP postcards, I ordered vintage LOVE stamps that were mostly 29-32 cents and everyone got a different one. I don’t know that anyone noticed but since I got all the RSVPs back I enjoyed looking at the stamps!

@Globetrotting Bride: Those stamps sound perfect! :) I am getting excited to figure out the details for our invite & rsvp stamps. :)

@Miss Spring Roll: Thanks Miss Spring Roll! :) Have you & Mr. S R thought about which site to use for the next round of stamps? I’m not too familiar yet…

@hjeltness: Yay for Eames stamp brides! :)
