Hat Help

December 10th, 2008 @ 12:42 pm by Mrs. Spring Roll

If you haven’t noticed, Mr. Spring Roll is never without a hat on his head.

Our wedding day will be no exception. I met, know, and love Mr. Spring Roll with a hat on his head, and that is how he feels most comfortable.

We’ve found a few hats that are appropriate for his wedding day attire, but need help choosing “The One”.

Fedora (minus the feather)

Ivy Cap

And for the heck of it, a Top Hat

Just a reminder of what his tux looks like:

Which hat do you think would best suit Mr. Spring Roll? Is your future husband donning a hat for your wedding?

I like the Top Hat! Also the fedora is cool… but would probably work better with a suit.

Can’t wait to see the hat in action! :)

Hmm… at first I liked hat #2, but I think that #1 would be best with the tux.

I think number 2 would suit Mr. SR best and look hella cute with a tux. Like Turtle from Entourage or something.

I love the fedora, but based on Mr.spring roll’s previous hats I’d think he’d like the ivy best?

Each hat really has its own personality!

I definitely vote for the fedora! But I also really like hat #2!

I’m totally having top hats (so excited), but I think the fedora looks pretty sweet.

I like #1.

And kudos to you for respecting him for who he is and not trying to change him on that day. Its a very mature and not at all selfish position to take in my opinion.

My DH’s family thought I should make him shave off his goatee for our wedding but I never considered it, it’s how I see him every day and as long as he was looking clean and groomed (groom, get it?…bad joke, sorry :) then I had no problem with it.

Ivy Cap is a bit too Angus (ACDC) for my taste - but that’s personal preference is all ;)

I vote for the Fedora if he likes it. It’s not too formal but classy enough for a wedding.

PS - we’re slipping a little card into our invitations stating simply “Hats are Mandatory” - it’s a joke actually, but we’re curious to see what happens when people read it.

I really like the ivy, I think it suits him the best. Plus, it’s unique and he can wear it again.

In love with #2 and I completely agree with Miss Meatball and her Turtle comment!

From the picture you’ve posted of Mr. SR and from what you’ve shared, #2 seems like it would fit his personality. Although, I sure he will look great in whatever he chooses.

I’m all for the Ivy cap and the Fedora. Fedora if he’s looking for something more traditional (but not as traditional as a top hat) or the Ivy Cap if he’s feeling saucy. :)

My FH is a hat guy all the way. Daily it is either a fedora type hat or a newsboy type hat if he is feeling casual. For the wedding he has chosen two. A black fedora and a black and white houndstooth hat. The second one is sort of 50s modish or at least I think so.
He wore a grey fedora in most of the engagement pics.

I’d agree that number 2 seems to fit Mr. SR a little better, although I also think number 1 would work. :)

I like the fedora but I think #2 is more his style. Make him model them for you and see which one you both agree on they would all look great with his suit but I think 1 or 2 show more character and will great in the photos!!

I love the fedora! It reminds me of those old hollywood leading men. He’ll look great.

definitely the Ivy Cap, it looks more his style… I know its not your typical suit hat, but it will really give him a style all his own.

The fedora and top hat seem best suited for the tux, but the ivy cap seems more like your FI (from the photos I’ve seen ;) ) I think that’s more important, so I’d go with #2. #1 might be a good compromise. But you never know - maybe he’s always wanted a top hat!

PS - I think it’s great that you’re finding him a hat instead of flipping out on him and forcing him to not be himself!

Definitely the fedora (i think he could rock the ivy cap, too… but thumbs down on the top hat!)

Aw, why no lovin’ for the pork pie? The homburg? This is the kind of pre-wedding shopping that I would just love. It reminds me of an awesome hat shop I found in St. Louis. A man walked in and just said, “This is my new coat,” and the salesmen scuttled off to find the perfect match. I dropped some serious change there.

Anyway, back on topic, I’m betting he could rock a pork pie.

My FH is the same way. We got the fedora almost exactly like the first one you pictured, minus the feather of course.

Personally I think the Top Hat does best with the suit, but from what we know about Mr. Spring Roll I think the Ivy or Fedora are more him :)

I love the fedora but I agree with everyone that the Ivy looks like it would suit your hubby to be best!

I’d consider going with a Homburg ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homburg_(hat) ), it’s between a fedora and a top hat in formality.

Otherwise, I think I’d go with the fedora. I’d have to look back at some of your earlier posts(I get Bees confused sometimes ^_^) but I think the top hat might be a bit too formal.

Ivy cap- young scallyway-ish with a modern sophistocated twist. If he’s Irish ( I can’t tell from the picture) then its a must.

I think #2 looks very Spring Roll! There is no need to match traditional formality and that Ivy cap looks like a very wedding appropriate fabric. He won’t be wearing a bow tie, right? I can’t wait to see how it comes together! Is he wearing more traditional shoes–or something he can wear again?

#2 seems to be his style, but give him a choice of all 3 and let his personality dictate his wedding-day chapeau

OMG TOP HAT!
Remember Mrs. Petunia’s adorable pics with the Monopoly-esque top hat?!
Maybe top hat for the ceremony, then ivy cap for the reception so he doesn’t feel *naked* when everyone wants to steal the top hat! :D

I love the fedora, but I agree with some pp’s that it doesn’t seem like it would suit his personality as well as #2.
