About Miss Snapdragon

Rockit!

December 11th, 2008 @ 12:54 pm by Miss Snapdragon

I am going to be extremely open with the hive about my fitness progress leading up to the wedding. Getting into shape (for those of us who are behind the curve) can be quite intimidating, and I want you to know that I am with you all the way, lady! For me, I am especially concentrating on improving my upper body tone (as are just about ALL brides).

Now that I am down ten pounds, my workout is ready to re-target towards toning up. One of my Snapsisters is a serious athlete. SnappySis has run numerous marathons, completed several triathlons, just finished a half-Ironman, and is now working towards competing in a full Ironman next year (I know, I get tired just reading that). She inspires me though, because she didn’t start out that way. She isn’t one of those superbabes who had worked out extensively for years. As she would say, it’s a myth to say all people who work out regularly love it - the secret is to get over the fact that you hate it, and just freakin’ go to the gym because you need to take care of your body. Often the things we might hate are made more manageable if you just quit fighting it. At least that helps me get my booty on the treadmill every day!

That’s not to say you have to do workouts you hate.

With all the options out there (classes, dancing, ellipticals, bicycles, treadmills, indoor, outdoor) you can likely find something you at least somewhat enjoy!

I was ready for something new - enter The Six Week Bikini Countdown, recommended by SnappySis. This book also made a BeeTV debut!

The cover is SO CHEESY! The name is nothing amazing either, but… the formatting and content is outstanding. I just completed my first week, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Each workout is clearly and simply laid out day by day, with color photos to illustrate each move. My body feels like Jell-O, meaning that every day I feel the effects. The book combines cardio intervals (perfect for me!), strength training, and pilates - with six workouts per week. No workout is longer than 55 minutes.

I super-amazingly-strongly recommend this book, if you are looking to shake up your wedding workout routine. The price is right at $19.95, and worth every penny so far. I’ll let you know how the six weeks turn out at the end!

Any other brides try any fitness books out? Thoughts? You 30 Day Shredders might also be interested to know there’s a new Jillian Michaels Wii Fit game out… anyone give that a spin yet?

I’m with you on the upper toning! I could care less about anything below my waist because the dress will cover it and we will not be wearing bathing suits on the honeymoon! Muah ha ha ha. :)

Thank you miss snapdragon! I just got back from the gym a few minutes ago, and your post reminds me why I keep going back (even though I absolutely HATE working out!) :) Good luck!

So you know if the 10 day shred Wii is for the WiiFit or just the Wii? I guess I could look it up myself.
Thanks for the tips :)

Definitely the kind of book I would avoid because of hte cover. Yeah, yeah I know all about the “don’t judge a book” stuff, but seriously, this photos makes it seem like someone like me is NOT there intended audience.

I have the wii game and you can use it with the wiifit or without. It is like bootcamp you run in place and jump all sorts of stuff that she would have you do if you were at a bootcamp class run by her. I haven’t had it long and have a cold now so I haven’t had a chance to really get into it.

Great post Miss Snapdragon. I was very overweight and had some unhealthy habits for many years and have only come to lose much of that weight, and the bad habits by doing some soul-searching of the fitness kind over many years.

In my opinion, people seek improved fitness for all kinds of reasons, and hating working out is often a sign that it’s time to switch it up, to try and find out WHY the hatred is coming on!

Keep up the hard work, and thanks for the recommendation!

this might seem like a silly question, but what do you do with the book when you’re workingout? I never want to try a new workout because I don’t know what I would do when I get to the gym. Will I look funny doing cardio intervals, will I get my plyos right, or hurt myself, and what do I do with the 100 page manual that I need to actually know what I’m doing??? What do you do with this book when you go to the gym?

@Miss Taffy: I KNOW - it’s a great excuse to get out of squats and lunges! ;)
@Mrs. Avocado: no joke, I would have passed right on by this one if my sis hadn’t demanded I check it out - I’m so glad I listened to her! Maybe you can get a book cover for it!!
@West Coast bride: I agree with you - I have to change things up to keep myself motivated.
@Lindsay: I know this is nerdalicious, but I bring my book out with me on the gym floor. It has spurred some humorous conversations. :) For the cardio workouts, I note them on a post-it and just carry that out (less cumbersome.)
