About Mrs. Meatball

Pay it Forward, Bridesmaid Style!

December 11th, 2008 @ 6:25 pm by Mrs. Meatball

Sarah over at the Wedding Hub emailed me about this fantastic online charity drive: The Cinderella Affair. This is a yearly event held by the Tempe Community Council assists high school juniors and seniors with the high cost of prom by collecting and distributing gently-used formal wear. Ladies, this is your chance to donate a used bridesmaid dress (or other gently used formal wear) to underprivileged High School girls so they can feel like Cinderella on their prom night.

They’re also holding a giveaway to sweeten the deal, and I hear the prizes are pretty fierce.

Email Hannah@thewhub.com for information on where to send the dresses or how to get involved. Hurry, you’ve only got until February 6, 2009 to make a girl’s prom dreams come true, and clean out your closet in the process!

Have any of your old bridesmaid dresses found a new home or new life after you wore them?

I actually donated my Vera Wang gown (wedding dress) that was damaged at a dry cleaner to the Mary Madeline project.

I donated all of my prom gowns to a similar project. It felt great to know that someone else could use them and not pay out the nose. They were gowns that I loved, but being that I am no longer a size 2 (or 4… or 8) they were better off in someone else’s closet!

Does anyone know if there is something similar in California, specifically the Bay Area?

@Stef: yes, the princess prject is located in the bay area. :) http://www.princessproject.org/princess/

also, here’s a wikipedia page that can help you others locate charities like this in your area: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charitable_Prom_Organizations

Thanks for posting this! I have been looking for this type of charity info to give to my bridesmaids if they want to donate. I also have four bridesmaid dresses that I would like to give, but haven’t taken the time to look up a local charity!
