About Mrs. Lemonade

Oh, Make Me Over*

December 11th, 2008 @ 3:26 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

*Any of my grrrls remember this song?!

This weekend I’ll be heading back to SA to celebrate my father’s birthday with the fam (Happy b-day, Dad!). Since I’m a big fan of multi-tasking I’ll also have my hair and makeup trial that afternoon.

My overall wedding day ‘look’ isn’t something that I’ve put much thought into. I’ve known from the beginning that up-dos aren’t for me. I’ve seen some beautiful up-dos on brides that I just love, but I always look bald with all my hair pulled back. Seriously, so that’s out. This makes me kinda sad because I have been enamored with this picture since the campaign came out:

I LOVE everything about this look. To me it portrays a perfect blend of bridal elegance and innocence. Bonus that your hair would be out of your face all night long! I’m thinking I could pull off a variation of this look later on in the reception. Something a bit softer (although the high pony and the structured ‘Barbie flip’ is what keeps drawing me to it), lower, and with some wispies on my forehead (to banish the bald look) could work.

For the ceremony I’m thinking I’ll probably rock the completely unoriginal ‘mostly down with a bit pinned up and curls’ look. Love her or hate her, Jessica Simpson looked (IMHO) incredibly beautiful and demure on her wedding day (which is pretty much what I’m going for).

images scanned from Jessica Simpson: I Do Achieving Your Dream Wedding (yes, I own this book…don’t hate)

As always, my handy-dandy point and shoot will be on the scene with me to document the transformation. Hopefully I won’t end up looking like a drag queen (although I guess it could be worse).

Do you admire a particular hairdo that you don’t think you can pull off?

“I’m all I wanna be…” I LOVE that song!

I love the long, loose curls look, but (a) my hair is super coarse and doesn’t hold curl well and (b) it’s going to be about a thousand degrees with 97% humidity on my wedding day. I have no idea what I’ll end up doing, but I’m afraid it will involve a lot of hairspray, and I have a pretty major hate on for hairspray.

Good luck w/ the hair and make-up trial!

Um, I own the book, too. Their wedding was just too beautiful not to have a book of it!

I know this has nothing to do w/ the hair, but who makes that dress? Thanks :)

I have course, super-curly hair. I would love to wear my hair down in loose curls, but (1) it’s super curly and does not go into loose curls with even the maximum amount of coaxing and (2) it makes me look even shorter than my 4′11″ frame. I look forward to the amusement on the face of the hair dresser at my destination wedding when I show up for my trial session and ask for her to put three feet of curly hair into a sleek up-do.

I have a problem with the up-do thing too…about looking bald or something! But I am thinking of doing the up-do with the front of my hair in a side sweep…or something to that effect! I think if I have it down I will sweat too much…we shall see! My wedding date is April 2010…what is your actually day if you dont mind me asking? BTW I love how Jessica has her hair in these pics and I love her diamond pins.

Yeah I know that song and it gets a lot of play on the rock band! I never heard of that book, I might have to go get it now! I am sure your hair is going to look fabulous, I have a short neck so an updo would not look good on me. Jessica Simpsons do looks really romantic tho, can’t wait to see how your hair trial is going to turn out!!

…Everytime I hear of someone changing their hair at some point during their big day it is from up to down…
And you are the first person I’ve heard of who would like to put it up later (for dancing I’m guessing), as I was hoping I could do.
It seems like it may be a bit of a hassle to pull it up; but if it went into a cute “Barbie” ponytail…maybe not.
Either way I am so excited to see how you pull it off! <3

Hahaha, I know what you mean about the “bald” look. Whenever I wear my hair up, my mom tells me I look better with it down. I’m like, “Thanks, mom”. But she definitely has a point. Unless my hair trial produces an amazing updo, I’ll be wearing it down like you. I think you will look gorgeous with it either way. I suggest you give the ponytail a try. You might really like it!

I look way better with my hair down, but I want it out of my way, so I’ll be wearing it up. I am planning on having some sort of face framing thing going on though. Hmm, time to start searching for inspiration!
