Inspiration and Fun with Polyvore

December 12th, 2008 @ 11:26 am by Mrs. Glitter

It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out the basics of Polyvore. (Really, it’s not that hard; perhaps I’ve just been out of school too long.) Just a few hours ago, I realized that “show image background” and “hide image background” are two concepts that make all the difference in the Polyvore world. Anyway, I hope the inspiration board I created decently portrays the style concepts behind our wedding.

I centered the board around a picture of our reception room at the Biltmore. In terms of style, I want to create an atmosphere filled with romance and vintage elegance. With some additional help from the images and boards of Snippet & Ink, this is what I came up with:

Biltmore Romance by carlysdreams

I realize our color palette is all over the road. Technically, our colors are black, white and gold. However, we are having an early summer wedding, and I can’t promise that splashes of color won’t creep in!

So, there you have it: an inspiration board! It was actually a lot of fun once I got the hang of it. And, better yet, this process has already really helped us to get organized. It is forcing us to sift through dozens of images I have collected to create a cohesive vision. If you are having trouble focusing, I urge you to create an inspiration board or two at Polyvore. I’d be happy to help if you have any questions! :)

I love polyvore. Since I’m waiting for my ring, the boards I do on there make up most of what’s currently on my blog. By far the most helpful thing I discovered is the color search, which can find items in a specific color.

Have fun with it, your starting point here is beautiful!

Hm. Sorry about that Anonymous above, it’s Sezzy. I don’t know why it didn’t show. You can check out my blog (if you like) http://www.sufferinglove.blogspot.com for more polyvore fun :)

I don’t have the skills to figure out Photoshop, so Polyvore is a Godsend for me. I’d never figure out how to do an inspiration board without them! It took me a good two months to use the center function, I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t see the bottom of my inspiration board! :slaps forehead:

@MsUsUk: Doesn’t that feature make all the difference in the world?! I’m glad I could be of some help!
@Anonymous: Color search? I had no idea! Thanks for the tip! And your boards are beautiful!
@budgetbeautiful: Hahaha! Polyvore is super helpful once you get the hang of it!

I love polyvore! Isn’t it amazing. I have done a couple of inspiration boards on my blog and am working on one for my outfit for an upcoming bridal shower. Love your inspiration board!
