About Mrs. Peep Toe

Happy Friday!

December 12th, 2008 @ 11:59 am by Mrs. Peep Toe

Hope everyone is having a great Friday. Mr. Peep Toe has to work all weekend, so here’s my semi-homemade project for Sunday:

Re-vamping Mama Peep Toe’s 42 year old veil!! That’s right, Poppy and Mama Peep Toe have been married for over 42 years!! I hope I do a good job; it’d be really cool to incorporate this into the wedding, and a big bummer if I can’t.

Wish me luck.

Are you incorporating anything from your parents’ wedding into yours?

Unfortunately my mom didn’t take very good care of her veil or dress, which is a shame because I loved both. She looked like Connie from the Godfather! :D My parents have been married 39 years when we wed next year.

It is wonderful that you can use her veil! Even though I donated my dress I saved my veil for a possible daughter to wear some day :)

Preservation didn’t hold up after 50 years on our family veil… its yellowed terribly– haven’t yet thought of a way to incorporate it.

Wow, I could have totally just quoted misspanda.

My mom actually re-vamped her veil for me, by going out and buying like $70 worth of tiny crystals and pearls and then sewing them individually into the lace around the edges of her veil. Surprisingly, it turned out to be a very light, sparkly touch.

Ok that is FREAKING adorable. Please please please use that! My mom wasn’t as “into” me wearing her wedding dress and veil as I was, but when it was the wedding day she ended up saying “I can’t believe how much it means to me to see you wearing these.”

Unfortunately the bow is totally yellow and the veil itself is sewn to the bow. So I have to completely detach the veil from the bow. But don’t worry, I have Miss Taffy’s amazing veil instructions all printed out and ready to go!!

My parents are divorced, so I’m not going to incoporate anything from their wedding, but I want to ask my FMIL if I can use something of hers as my soemthing borrowed, I heard you should borrow soemthing worn by a happily married woman on their wedding day, she mentioned a couple months ago she has her veil still, but no daughters to wear it, so I hope she still has it!

can you do a link to miss taffy’s veil instructions? I have my mom’s veil that I need to work on too. It has this huge headpiece/headband attached to. I need to remove it and figure out how I can use the rest of the veil on my head.

So if you have instructions for veils, please share!

Thanks

I used my moms veil also. First she had a horrible headpiece ont aht things so I cut the veil off and put it on a comb. It was pretty yellow from age and my dress was shite but a couple of rounds soaking in Oxy Clean and it looked pretty good.

That is stunning! The bow is such a perfect remnant of that time (without being painfully and obviously “a remnant of that time”, if you know what I mean…..).

I’m Asian and for the traditional tea ceremony, I’m wearing my grandmother’s chinese gown. My grandparents are still the sweetest couple, and next year will be their 60th Anniversary. In fact, our wedding date will be just a week after their anniversary!

I’m also using the tea set from my Mom’s wedding tea ceremony, and wearing a jade pendant from my Mom’s great-grandmother.

:) I began incorporating these “heritage” elements after my fiance used the diamond from his late grandmother’s ring for my engagement ring!

Great that you’re gonna use yr mom’s veil, that’s so sweet!

That is a great idea…love the integration of the past to the present. If only I’m good w/ sewing. I got a custom designed birdcage veil for myself and my bridesmaids at my wedding. The designer recently launched an online store at http://www.5eizen.etsy.com. She has one of a kind designs on that site but she also does custom orders. She has traditional and a modern take on a birdcage veil. Makes me want to have another wedding!!

[...] I also need to get back on the wedding bandwagon. Yesterday a friend asked how the wedding planning was going.  Well, it’s going all right! Where— I’m not so sure? I still have a lot of details to do and things to catch the hive up on, so I thought I would take some time to revisit a previous post: re-vamping Mama Peep Toe’s 42-year-old veil. [...]
