Makeup I Love

December 14th, 2008 @ 1:07 pm by Mrs. Bee

I feel like I’m sharing so many product reviews, what with my recent glowing review of Fresh’ Sugar Face Polish, but when I find something I love, I feel like I have to share it! :)

Makeup I Love : wedding makeup Product 2 Laura Mercier Foundation

I just purchased Laura Mercier’s oil-free foundation in Sunny Beige, after hearing rave reviews about it for years… and it definitely lives up to the hype!  I was surprised because I tried her much touted tinted moisturizer many years ago, and didn’t like it at all.  But a makeup artist at Bloomingdales put some primer along with the foundation on me, and I liked it so I purchased it.  Later that night I went out to a birthday party, and someone complimented me on how great my skin looked, then asked what product I used!  I was sold!

I’ve tried four other foundations in my lifetime: Armani’s Luminous Silk, Prescriptives’ Flawless Skin, Shu Uemura’s Water Perfect, and Shiseido’s Dual Balancing (I’ve listed them in the order I liked most to least).  But Laura Mercier’s tops them all.  Paired with a primer underneath, this will give you the most flawless skin ever on your wedding day!

Since I’m talking about makeup, I might as well share some more of my favorite products because I’ve pretty much been using the same stuff for years. ;)

Makeup I Love : wedding makeup Wet N Wild Lip Liner Pencil De Makeup I Love : wedding makeup Lip

Lip Liner - Drugstore brands! Wet ‘n Wild Creme Lip Liner in 666 Brandywine and Prestige Waterproof Lip Liner in Natural (via ulta) - two neutral colors that look great on everyone!

Makeup I Love : wedding makeup Mac Fluidline

Eyeliner - MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack (I previously used Bobbi Brown gel liner but prefer MAC) with this Shu Uemura brush.

Makeup I Love : wedding makeup Mascara

Mascara - Diorshow and Lancome Definicils. I’m using Blinc Kiss Me right now and have always wanted to try Fiberwig, but Diorshow and Definicils are ones that I keep coming back to.  They are awesome when you wear them together, but I’m too cheap to spend that much on mascara at once.

Makeup I Love : wedding makeup 21mqhu1mtql Sl500 Aa280

Eyebrow Pencil - MAC Eye Brow Pencil in Lingering (image source).  I’ve converted a lot of people who try this pencil!

Makeup I Love : wedding makeup Stila Makeup I Love : wedding makeup Mac

Eyeshadow - Stila’s Kitten and MAC’s Black Tied (for smokey eye) are the two I wear most often.

Makeup I Love : wedding makeup Z176705.jpgMakeup I Love : wedding makeup Z17670501.jpg

Blush - The famous NARS Orgasm (the multiple duo that comes with a bronzer), and Tarte Cheek Stain in Flush during the summer.

Makeup I Love : wedding makeup Bronzer

Bronzer - Cargo Bronzer in Medium Matte (I like this because it’s matte and isn’t sparkly like most bronzers)

Makeup I Love : wedding makeup S117180.jpgMakeup I Love : wedding makeup P218431 Hero
Concealer - Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage (for pimples) with this brush, and YSL Touche Eclat (under eyes)

Makeup I Love : wedding makeup S162184.gif

Loose Powder - Shu Uemura Face Powder in Colorless (source).  Very finely milled powder — I prefer it to Laura Mercier’s.

Makeup I Love : wedding makeup 300 200x200 Makeup I Love : wedding makeup Bifacil
And since we’re talking makeup, let’s talk makeup removers.  I’ve been using DHC’s deep cleansing oil and Lancome’s Bi-facil forever and ever (although Lancome recently changed the formula… don’t you just hate when they do that?!).  Nothing gets all your makeup out like the combination of these two products.

I love everything above, and highly recommend all these products!

As far as makeup brushes, I have a hodgepodge assortment of MAC, Shu Uemura (the creme de la creme… altho Kevyn Aucoin also has a fantastic set), Laura Mercier, and Bobbi Brown brushes… but Sephora recently sent me a $15 coupon, so I bought this affordable brush set!

I don’t buy makeup that often since I work from home and don’t have to wear it often, but I do love it.  Now that Mrs. Caramel has moved to New York, I’m gonna bug her for makeup tips all the time. ;)

I’m looking for great eyeshadow colors (I never know which new colors to buy), a tinted moisturizer, a new face powder (I’m using Armani’s luminous silk powder but don’t love it) and I haven’t bought a new lipstick in probably a decade. Please let me know if you have any great suggestions for any of these products… and of course please share your favorite makeup in the comments section — I think most of us are always looking for awesome new products to try! :)

Nars bronzer is amazing - not sparkly at all
Also a fan of Nars eyeshadows - amazing staying power and easy to put on
I love Biotherm foundation
Origins makes the best brow pencils
Origins also makes great lipglosses - not too sticky, minty and mosturizing all at one
Chanel makes great powders

I am a product junkie so I loooooove your product reviews! Keep them coming! :) I like the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, so I’ll have to try the foundation!
I use the Bobbi Brown gel liner… why do you like MAC better? (I’ve never tried it!)
I also really like Dior Show mascara. But note to new users– make sure to toss it when it starts to get clumpy. Because its so dramatic, its not one of those that you can power through when it starts to get clumpy!
Thanks again Mrs. Bee!

Oh, and my favorite eye shadow color is Trish McEvoy’s SUGAR PLUM. Its a beautiful purplish color (think more of a light-deep-purple– not lilac). I pair it with Amethyst (can be used in the creases or corners for a night look, or you can wet it and use it as a liner). And to top off the look Crimson just accents it.
But if you’re a one color type of gal, just get SUGAR PLUM. Its great on its own- I wear it to work, on the weekends, out at night… I love it!

I had all Laura Mercier make up for my wedding day and loved it too. I found that it’s so much more natural than MAC. It makes you glow! Look at my video:

beachbride — i used gel eyeliner for years, but found that the bottle got really clumpy when i was like halfway through with it. maybe it’s because it takes me so long to get through any makeup… it’s very similar to mac, but i find the consistency of mac a little smoother.

I love, love, love MAC’s fluidline. I have two different brushes to apply it. I prefer the slanted one. I am going to order that brush you linked. Do you apply eyeliner to your “water line” or just on top of your eyelid?

Keep the product reviews coming! I’ve got my Sephora magazine out.

@Amanda: i know which slant brush you’re talking about - i own two of them! one for lining under my eyes with shadow, and another one i bought at the suggestion of the mac salesperson who said it was best to use with their fluidline. but i prefer a soft brush to get a more precise line…. i think it’s a matter of personal preference tho. ;)

what is a water line? i apply it to the top of my eyelid and not the bottom if that’s what it means…

@Mrs. Bee: @Mrs. Bee: I will have to try another brush. I’ve been using the slant brush forever and I’m starting to think it looks too dramatic. A more precise line is just what I’m looking for.

A waterline is right under your eye. On top of your eyelashes rather than under them. I was confused about this until the girl at my local MAC counter explained it to me.

I use Laura Mercier if I ever wear any makeup. Very smooth, and doesn’t look like you are wearing makeup, which is very important to me.

Fiberwig is about 20 times better than Kiss Me in my opinion, Kiss Me really only dies my already thin lashes black, while Fiberwig gives them volume and length.

I’m loving the Fresh makeup line lately, and the powder is just unbelievable. My mom saw me apply it one day and bought some for herself as well.

@Mrs. Avocado: I don’t really like kiss me — it takes me forever to get off! and there is a fresh store around the corner from me. i love all their body, face, and hair prods, but i’ve never tried their makeup! i’ll stop in one day!

I must second the Definicils, Tarte, and Laura Mercier - I use all of those and really love them, too. AND I have been using W&W Brandywine for 15+ years (I think it must have been one of the first lip liners I ever bought!) :)

I’m a HUGE diorshow mascara person. I typically buy department store makeup, just because i like getting the huge “gift with purchase” thing that Nordstorm does on occasion. The one you showed was my old mascara, but on a whim I bought Diorshow “Iconic”… the brush has changed my life. Seriously, greatest mascara brush ever!

Next time you run out of Diorshow, try the Diorshow Iconic!

I’m gonna try that Mac liquid liner that you suggested. I love liquid eyeliner! If I had to leave the house with one product on, it would be liquid liner. I’m weird.

Hi ladies! First off I want to say hi. I am an avid weddingbee reader and think all of you are amazing. You’ve given me such inspiration for when I get engaged. I hope to be blogging here beside some of the most talented and beautiful brides! Now that I got that out of the way….
I love makeup (I guess its a good thing I work for Sephora). I definitely agree about Laura Mercier! I recommed the secret camouflage concealer to everyone! As for a powder, the best I’ve found is a pressed powder by dior. Its super silky and smooth and not to mention how flawless my face looks from it. And as for great eye shadows I am absolutely in love with Make Up For Ever! Mufe’s pigment surpasses MAC by hundreds! Just remember, whenever you want lasting power on your eye shadow, use a primer. Two of the best is urban decay potion primer and Too face shadow insurance! You will be amazed about how true the color looks and the lasting power! When all else fails, put a little concealer on your eyelid before your eye shadow.

Ps.
Diorshow, diorshow iconic are amazing paired together by layering!

Pss.
Any questions? I love to help! Make up and skin care is a big passion of mine.

Ah Bee, you make me want to buy more stuff! :P Haha.

I second Avo with Fiberwig… love that stuff b/c virtually anything that doesn’t “tube” my lashes ends up underneath my eyes by the end of day! Though it takes about the same amount of time to get off as Kiss Me, methinks… lots of warm water flushing and some gentle rubbing is all though; not too bad.

For a face powder, I’m loving Clinique’s Almost Powder right now, either as a foundation all by itself or as a finishing powder… it’s milled super finely so it has a nice finish. Go give it a try! :)

@love2dance: @Malika: make up forever’s high definition foundation is amaz-zing! i wore it on my wedding day (and i’m a strictly bare escentuals kinda girl) and my photographer didn’t have to retouch my face in our pictures. the MUFE finishing powder is key to a completely flawless face. my bridesmaids used the powder over their own foundations (clinique, prescriptives, lancome and smashbox) and they said their makeup stayed in place better than expected.
also, the waterproof definicils is practically permanent. i sobbed on my wedding day and still looked fantastic.
and… the laura mercier corner lashes are fantastic. i’ve worn mine 3 times and they look as good as they did the first time.
