About Mrs. Meatball

Taking Stock on a Moody Monday

December 15th, 2008 @ 5:30 pm by Mrs. Meatball

I woke up this morning, late, to find it 45 and raining outside. In LA. This is unheard of, people! Normally, I’m quite excited when it rains here, but:

a) Mr. Meatball is out of town, due to the passing of his grandmother last Friday (rest in peace, Irene… may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest), so I woke up cold and alone for the 3rd day in a row. No bueno.

b) Dealing with Paco on a rainy day is like wrangling an insolent toddler. It takes forever to get him outside, and then even longer to get him to focus up and do his biznass… I guess the rain brings all kinds of new smells to the surface, and his wee nose is quite distractable. Without Mr. Meatball here, it was like being a single mom with a really ADD child this morning.

c) We live in the bottom floor of a duplex… which is a fancy way to say converted basement. Normally, I love our little bungalow in the hillside. But we don’t have sufficient heat for days like this, due to the way the vents are organized. Its colllllld inside in the mornings, making it all the harder to greet the day without a case of the grouchies.

d) After an incredible Smart Chicks meeting last night, my mind was racing with to-do’s and resolutions, revelations and self discoveries, and (natch) estrogen-y warmth. As a result, I did not make it to bed before 2:45am, and oh boy, can I feel it today.

e) I have finally come out of denial and suddenly really realize that I have *gasp* FIVE MONTHS until the wedding! Holy beejeezus, where did the time go? I have so much to do!

After New Years, I’m going into wedding hyperdrive. This means planning, but mostly it means spending money. That’s what intimidates me the most. It’s been so easy to plan and plan away without really dropping any major cash. But the “play money” phase is over and now we must get down to brass tacks and start spending like playaz. Eeeeep!

Some key items on the to-do list:
*operation fitness
*plan rehearsal dinner
*work with EAD to design invitations
*figure out groomswear/groomsmen’s wear
*find/book DJ
*find/book hair/makeup
*find/book night-of hotel room for ourselves
*figure out mini-moon.
*saris - for table covers
*lanterns - for the dining hall
*logistical planning of, oh, justabouteverything!

So that’s where I am this freezing, drizzly Monday morning. Overwhelmed, overtired, and overstimulated! Phew.

Did you find yourself completely taken off guard by how soon your wedding is coming? How did you manage the time?

Heck yes. I realized two weeks ago that I’m only 7 months out! How on earth did that happen? I feel as though nothing is done yet!

So with you meatball. It’s cold and rainy here. And the little mutt made me carry him home 1/2 through our walk this morning!!! And my list of things to do in Jan. looks just as crazy as yours.

Oh, sorry about your case of the Mondays. I feel you on the weather thing.. It hailed in norcal this morning– and there was even snow on a few street corners in SF!

You’re doing an awesome job and I am totally looking forward to seeing how the rest of your planning unfolds– AFTER you’ve had time to take a breath, sit down with some hot tea, and concentrate on yourself for a while. :-)

@Miss Peep Toe: We can do it! TEAM - together everyone acheives more!

@RenaissanceTrophyWife: Aw, you’re SO sweet! Amazing :)

@Aggie: I’ll be posting on this soon enough - stay tuned!

Miss Meatball, I feel your pain. I’m sorry it’s rough for you and the Mr. right now. And I, too must drag the quadraped off the porch very unwillingly.

Advice that wasn’t asked for (at least not this post), but I notice makeup is on your to do list. I know South Pasadena may be a bit further than you wish to travel on your day, but take a look at Puff Beauty Studio. I booked Amy for my day in October and was floored, amazed, gobsmacked at how great I looked. So was everyone else. I think you might like her. Her rates are reasonable and you don’t end up looking like you’re wearing makeup.

Good luck with it all and we’re all sending lots of warm, happy vibes your way.

@branseen: Thanks for the advice and support! I’d love to see some photos of your makeup, if you don’t mind. It sounds great… the no-makeup look is what I want, but the pics on their site are a little hard to see….

Did you really say “Together Everyone Achieves More”? You’re so cute! It reminds me of my high school basketball days and my coach’s motivational speeches.

First off, this weather depresses me. Second, I’m with you in terms of planning and the diminishing time line! Mr. G looked at me yesterday and said, “We are six months out! There’s so much to do!” I, of course, gave him a dirty look and then had a mini-stress attack.

Don’t fret, you can totally do this. One step at a time… :)

oy. my wedding is less than THREE MONTHS away and i have yet to pay anything off or finish any DIY projects (unless you count my hair flower… hahaha). only 11 weekends left to get all this $#!+ done! it sounds a lot scarier when i say it like that.

Yes — completely off guard.

Oh, and try to take French Bulldog out in negative 5 degrees fareheit (feels like -22). Not good.

I don’t mind sharing at all, Miss Meatball. I’ve got photos up on my blog (http://october12-thedayafter.blogspot.com/). The one comment that I got over and over, all day long, was how flawless my skin looked. She was amazing, with a capital Uh.

I hope your Tuesday is off to a bit better start, at least it isn’t raining right this very second!

Staying tuned on the sari tablecloths… sounds great! For those daunted by the idea of getting actual saris for reception decor, Joann’s Fabric now sells sari brocade in really pretty, bright colors (midnight blue, orange, purple, etc). You can buy it by the yard and use the store’s 40 percent off coupons to save even more.
