About Mrs. Glitter

Inspired Poses

December 16th, 2008 @ 2:07 pm by Mrs. Glitter

If you asked me several months ago about taking pictures for our wedding, I’d probably act shy and tell you that I’ve never been too comfortable in front of the camera. Why? Because it’s true! But don’t tell anyone, okay?

I’m sorry to report that I haven’t been able to necessarily shake my camera jitters, however, I have devised a plan to “fake it” for our wedding pictures. I, like many of you, have logged in countless hours of picture scrolling and blog stalking on various photographers’ websites. Not to mention I’ve drooled over the bees’ wedding pictures.

I want to emulate a group of inspirational shots I’ve fallen in love with from other weddings. So I’ve created a little list of proposed wedding day poses. Although I risk being pegged as an unoriginal over-planner, I know that I will probably be distracted on the big day and a little overwhelmed by having the camera in my face all day. It will help to have a list that I can refer to in order to ease anxiety and aid forgetfulness.

Here are some favorite poses I have chosen thus far. (Note: These pictures are from famous photographers whom I blog stalk and they don’t even know it! Don’t think I’m creepy… please.)

The Stand Tall and Hold Hands Pose: Leigh Miller Photography.

The Wedding Party Walking/Entourage Style Pose: Trista Lerit Photography.

The Bride Alone Basking in the Glory of Her Dress Pose: Ben Chrisman Photography.

The Walk Away and Stare Longingly Into Each Others Eyes Pose: Kate Headley Photography.

The Twirl Me in a Parking Lot Pose (parking lot not required): Ben Chrisman Photography.

Inspired Poses : wedding los angeles photography Alone D

The Lift Your Dress and Reveal Your Shoes Pose (For those wearing pants, the Stand Still and Do Nothing Pose): Kate Headley Photography.

Inspired Poses : wedding los angeles photography Shoes P Before I go, let me just say that we chose to work with our photographer because of his talent, personality and his ability to capture spontaneous moments; those tender moments that come and go within a split second, but will stick in your mind forever. If I had it my way, every picture would tell a story: a story that emanated from our little wedding. Okay, I’m getting a bit carried away, but you get what I’m saying, right? So, the above posed shots will probably only comprise a small percentage of the overall picture-taking day. But still, it will be nice to have something we can refer to.

Do you feel inspired when you look at other wedding photographers’ work? Do you have specific poses you’ve picked out for the big day?

I am so glad that I am not the only person who is doing this. I already warned my photographer that while I love his work and don’t want him to feel insulted, I will be showing him some images that indicate what I would like among my photos.

We have a few we really want. The most important is a shot of my fiance psinning me around. He did it the day he proposed and our favorite photographer has a shot of a groom doing it in her portfolio. We saw it and knew it was one of our must have shots!

I love this: “(Note: These pictures are from famous photographers whom I blog stalk and they don’t even know it! Don’t think I’m creepy… please.)” I do the same thing! You are not creepy- - it is just about getting inspired! :o)
Plus I love the names you gave to each of the poses! Those are great. I’ll be stealing them for my own wedding pics!

@amy77jc: Yes, fun shoes are a must!
@Anonymous: It’s a fine line. I would be mortified if I insulted our photographer! But, I agree, we all have a vision and I think having inspiration photos can help. It can’t hurt, right?
@Anonymous: That’s so cute!
@KatieB: Steal away! I’m glad you enjoyed the names of my poses. :)

This is a great idea. Poor Leigh had to deal with our utterly uninspired poses, because we never gave any thought to what we wanted to look like!

I wish I would have done something like this, printed it out as a little “look book” and had it with me during our time doing couple portraits. It’s just so hard to think up these fantastic poses in the moment (and unless your photog has been doing weddings for years they won’t be able to spout off ideas non-stop either) so it’s nice to have a backup. My photog was never hurt when I emailed her “inspirational” photos by other photographers before the wedding, and there are some that she copied and captured perfectly (and now everyone thinks I came up with them myself, teehee).

@Mrs. Avocado: I actually thought of you when I was writing this post!! I forgot to do it, but I was going to include the group shot of you and your bridal party with the suitcases. Not to try and copy it, but because you and your party looked so beautiful and fierce. I couldn’t help but be inspired! :)

I’ve taped a wedding where the couple did exactly what Mrs. Avocado mentioned: they printed up their favorite pics, put them in a little album, and then referred to the album during the photo session. I think it worked well. It was wierd at one point when one of MY wedding pics was flipped to, and they started recreating it. All I could think of was how special and spontaneous that moment was right after our ceremony, and here was someone simply recreating it months later. But overall I think having some go-to poses is a great idea.

Mrs Avo, you should do a post about how you made this work! Show the inspiration pictures and then your interpretation. I would love to see that.

@VideoBride: I would feel a little weirded out, too. Especially given the fact that your own wedding picture came up in the stack! I wrote this post mainly as inspiration. Most brides do the shoe pose, but it’s totally something I might forget on the wedding day!

I have been surfing on-line greater than three hours as of late, but I never discovered any interesting article like yours. It is beautiful value sufficient for me. In my view, if all website owners and bloggers made just right content material as you did, the internet might be much more useful than ever before.
