On the morning of our wedding, around 7AM, I received a text from Mr. Candy Corn asking me where our iron was (if you recall, he was staying at our apartment while I stayed at the fancy hotel…sweet deal for me!). Turns out that Mr. CC ended up accidentally leaving the iron on for two whole days while we were staying at the hotel after the wedding. I came home to a blazing iron and fresh mouse droppings in the kitchen. I teased Mr. Candy Corn because I had only left him alone for a few hours and he had managed to nearly burn our apartment down and attract a posse of cheddar rice cake-destroying rodents with his un-swept crumbs.
Anyway, Mr. CC and I had both woken up around 4AM because we were too giddy to sleep.
After taking advantage of some free HBO, I decided to entertain myself by making a stop at Dunkin’ Donuts to fuel my bridesmaids. They had agreed to meet me at my hotel in the wee hours of the morning, so we could walk a few blocks to the Jason Matthew Salon, where we got prettified. The salon was closed to the public in the morning, so we had the whole place to ourselves, which was fan-tabulous. Jason & Joe were our amazing stylists, while Karen took care of the makeup for my mom and me.
They even provided me with curlers that matched my incredibly loud ensemble.

I had to take a break from getting my hair done because Mr. Candy Corn was stopping by to get some foundation applied to make his skin look flawless. They had me hiding out in a hallway, which happened to have these two saucy mannequins posing, so I couldn’t resist but make the best of it. How many opportunities are you going to have to go to 2nd base with a Barbie-crotched gal on the morning of your wedding?

Mr. CC was just as nervous and giddy as I was to be getting married in a few hours.

I was all smiles at the salon. The makeup artist (who I couldn’t recommend more!) was playing the Almost Famous soundtrack, which is my favorite soundtrack of all time, so I was as happy as could be.

Despite a dose of sugary donuts, Sister-in-law CC was caught in a sleepy moment.

We were all talking about how fabulous the styling is on Mad Men, and how much my bridesmaid’s hair was reminiscent of that era.

My sassy MOH Melanie enjoys her fair share of candy corn muffin grabbing, and my mom is crazy enough to encourage it.

I was really surprised by the gorgeous updos the stylists were able to pull off with my bridesmaids who had hair on the shorter side.

I am rarely seen wearing a dress without my black tights. If I thought I could’ve pulled off wearing them with my wedding dress, I would have!

It was fun seeing my stepsister-in-law getting all gussied up since she is almost always in a comfy hoodie & jeans with dyed hair of some sort.

This is pretty much how I was feeling the entire morning (translation= OMG AHHH I’M GETTING MARRIED TODAY!). I was weak and woozy from waking up so early and not eating enough, so my MOH went out to pick up some grub from Cosi for the maids, mom and I, which was incredibly nice of her!! I felt like such a princess having a chicken Caesar salad delivered to me while getting my makeup and hair done.

My stylist Jason was a complete perfectionist (I mean that as a compliment) and made me feel relaxed and not at all insane for asking him to basically put a flower in my hair. A fairly simple request I suppose, but he made sure every hair was in place and that the flower wouldn’t budge a few hours into the wedding. The hairpiece, from Myra at Twigs & Honey, was one of the smartest wedding purchases I made. Myra was an absolute pleasure to speak to on Etsy, and she made exactly what I was looking for to add some elegant flair to my vintage attire.

I had mentally told myself that I should only make pretty, smiling faces on the day of our wedding and leave the goofy faces at home for the day, but that certainly didn’t happen. I know that most of my facial expressions aren’t exactly Kodak moments, but I figured I might as well have been myself, especially on one of the most important days of my life. Even if my lips sometimes look like a pink velvet sausage wallet (blame Mrs. Bee for that one, I learned it from the “Sexy Slang” game she sent me! Hee hee).

See? I can resemble a fairly normal human being sometimes!

I love when I’m not the only one making goofy faces. That’s half of the reason why I picked these ladies to be bridesmaids in the first place (plus, they’re overall rockin’ chicks).

Ah-mazing. I wish I could just bundle him up and put him in my pocket, he is so precious.

Speaking of precious, here is a classy shot of our photographer, Laura Kicey, and I being scandalous in the hallway. Who could resist those curlers? I mean, come on now.

A clueless Mr. Candy Corn posing in the empty room outside the salon. I’d Lego his Eggo any day (I’m not even sure what I meant by that).

Here’s another shot of the beautiful salon, which was so nice to host our bridal hair extravaganza!

I was so pleased with the job Karen did on my makeup. I wanted it to look dewy and sheer, in a naturally pretty sort of way. (’Cos trust me, those dark circles under my eyes aren’t naturally pretty!)

I have a bundle of bloopertastic photos that I will be sharing with you at the completion of my recaps. But for now, just imagine a “Oh-my-god-I-just-got-hairspray-in-my-mouth-because-I-don’t-shut-up-when-I’m-nervous-and-my-eyes-are-rolling-back-like-Storm-from-X-men” moment.

Before I knew it, we were headed back to my hotel room to get changed, where we had less than a half-hour to get our dresses on and to meet my dad at the stretch limo he surprised us with at the last minute.

All in all, I’d have to say that if I had to do it again, I wouldn’t change a thing. I had no regrets about our choice of salon, and I’d highly recommend them to anyone in the area. The staff is completely open to all styles, and is willing to go down an offbeat route, or a classic, more traditional route, depending on the bride’s taste and preferences.

Even though I’m not a morning person (and neither are most of my bridesmaids), the stylists and makeup artist had us all cracking up and really set the mood of the day. I haven’t had a haircut since the week before our wedding, so I am itching to go back there for some post-wedding primping!
Was anyone else surprised by how smoothly the makeup & hair phase of the wedding went?
