About Ms Fondue

It’s a Thriller, Thriller Night!

December 16th, 2008 @ 10:34 am by Ms Fondue

About five months after Mr. Fondue and I started dating, we went to Six Flags Over Georgia with my bridesmaid Frances and her husband Joe for Fright Fest. I have many, many fond memories of this trip.

The Fondues with Frances on the Superman coaster.

Six Flags normally plays their theme song and some other things over their speakers, but for Fright Fest, they were playing Halloween-type music (and sound clips of creepy children laughing). One of the songs they played was Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. As Mr. Fondue and I were standing by the entrance of the park, waiting for the rest of our entourage, we started trying to do the dance. But, neither of us knew it.

When we were discussing what songs we wanted to hear at our reception, “Thriller” came up. I (half-jokingly) said it would be awesome if we could get a group of people to learn the dance.

Thus, the idea was born. We’ve informed everyone in our wedding party and several other people we thought would be interested that we’ll be doing a group “Thriller” dance, and have posted helpful links on the front page of our wedding website. It’s not mandatory for them to take part.

We will be doing the Thrill the World version of the dance to the radio single, which differs slightly from the actual dance done in the music video, since the music is a little different. Thrill the World is an annual event to try to break the world record for worldwide simultaneous dance. They dance to “Thriller” and have posted broken down instructions on how to do the dance on their website.

We will probably try to get as many people together as possible for a group practice a day or two before the wedding, but until then, everyone is learning it on their own. We expect to have probably between five and ten people participating.

Are any of you learning a group dance for your wedding?

Hee, that’s cool. Will you be rolling about on the floor in your wedding dress?

Although it looks a bit complicated for me … it doesn’t repeat until 2 minutes in!

Seems like a cool idea. I hope your plan for the DIY Videographer goes accordingly and the dance can be recorded appropriately. Make sure they have a tripod for the camera.

@doctorgirl: Yep, yep! They give me the hope that I’ll actually be able to do this in my dress, haha.

@lou: I think we’re just going to zombie walk in instead of starting out on the ground. I’m not sure I’d be able to get up, hehe. It seems more complicated than it actually is, I think. I learned all the steps in one evening, now I just have to practice until I know what order they all go in and be able to do it faster. My mom is even learning the dance!

@Miss Champagne: You bet! With all the camcorders going around, I’m sure we’ll get footage of it (actually, I’ll make sure of it). ;)

I did it in a friend’s wedding a couple of years ago. It would have been helpful to have a practice beforehand- I had to teach the ladies in the lobby of the reception right before we did it! It was really fun.

We are so going to do the Thriller dance at our wedding. . . my niece tried to do it at her wedding but none of us knew the dance. Thanks for the link to Thrill the World - I’m sending it to her so we can learn it before April!
