A Dash of Sash

December 18th, 2008 @ 5:30 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

I made the decision recently that the sash on my wedding dress wasn’t quite cutting it. It’s sort of plain and blah, and isn’t quite right. I don’t really know how the dress would look sans sash, but I’m pretty sure my figure would benefit from having something there. Thus began the search for the perfect sash.

Here’s my inspiration:

A Dash of Sash : wedding wedding dress Pp11

A Dash of Sash : wedding wedding dress Mwa1041

I looooove the colors of the bottom sash, but I love the simplicity of the top one… What a conundrum!

My solution— I’ll make my own hybrid.

I’m starting out with some white organdy ribbon, and I’m going to be attempting my own fabric flowers. Stay tuned! A DIY post is to come!

Are you designing and making anything to add a little pizazz to your wedding dress?

I agree, I like the colors of the second sash but the simplicity of the first. I can’t wait to see the finished result!

A problem with the second sash is that it is pretty standing up but you need to think about how it will feel sitting down. And how will it look after sitting down you don’t want people constantly fluffing up the flowers on your butt.

I also agree that a hybrid is the best- I’m pretty much having my seamstress redo the entire fit of my dress! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

My bridesmaids are wearing that 1st sash with their grey jersey empire waist J.Crew dresses. I love how they add interest to an otherwise basic piece. A sash wouldn’t work with my dress, but it’ll look great with theirs!

Can’t wait to see what you come up with! I made a new sash for my dress because I hated the color of the original. It is just a simple ribbon though, to offset the lace on my dress. :)

I love it. Myra (Twigs and Honey) has some beautiful sashes too.

Looking forward to viewing your new sash!

Of the two above, the second sash is definitely easier on the eyes (color) but it has too much going on. I’d certainly lean towards a simple sash (like the top one)…good luck!
