My Ring

December 18th, 2008 @ 1:30 pm by Mrs. Crab Cake

The first time I was engaged, I picked out and purchased my own ring.

This time, I didn’t want to have anything to do with the purchasing of the ring. I just wanted to be completely surprised.

So, when Mr. CC and I started talking about getting married, I had only two requests. The first was that I didn’t want to have anything to do with picking out the ring. And the second was that I be completely surprised by the proposal.

Of course, he wanted some help with what I wanted in a ring. All I told him was that I wanted something vintage. And I didn’t think about it again. I didn’t look at a single engagement ring until I saw mine.

And he did a fantastic job with my ring. It’s an antique setting, found at an estate sale, likely from the 20’s or 30’s. He picked out the diamonds after the setting had been found.

He thinks it’s too small. He thinks I don’t like it. He said to me one day, “I should have waited longer to propose so you could have a bigger ring.”

I basically tell him to shut up anytime this subject comes up.

Because I love my ring. I think it’s perfect.

Those was taken inside of the roses he brought me at work on our Negative 1 year anniversary.

And these were taken after that fantastic post by Anne Ruthmann.

(That’s my Lenox elephant salt shaker; I’ve had those for ever!)

This is my favorite! It’s taken on the tension dial on my antique Singer.

Okay, my ring looks very very similar to yours!!! It was my fiance’s grandmother’s ring. I never though I’d see another one that looked similar to mine! Your ring is beautiful!

I LOVE your ring! Your story reminds me a bit of ours….the only thing I told my boy was that I didn’t want something huge and I loved old things. He went the estate ring route as well with a new center stone setting. While I wish I knew the story of my rings former owner….I love that it’s something with a bit more character. The problem we are having is finding a band that both matches and fits along side of it….is that something you’ve already taken care of? If so any suggestions?

On another note, we stopped in your town last week on our way to AU to visit family and while driving through, I off-handedly commented that Miss CrabCake was from “here”. The boy looked at me like who the heck is Miss CC….I just giggled to myself since I knew he wouldn’t understand :)

Aw, he did so well! That’s exactly the type of ring I would have gone for if I’d picked something for myself. Though Mr T and I designed my ring together, and in the end I love it that much more for blending well with both our tastes…. (And really, it’s not that far off, since it’s a basic square design that’s been around since the 1930s.)

I haven’t found the perfect band yet, but I do know that it’s a 5 stone prong set band. I’m having a hard time hunting one that compliments mine. The modern ones are, well, modern, and don’t have much personality when they are stuck next to mine.

Thanks for all the compliments ladies!
