Something Red…

December 18th, 2008 @ 4:15 pm by Ms Fondue

Before I even went dress shopping, I knew I wanted to wear red shoes under my gown. This, in part, is fueled by pictures like this one from our photographer, Kate Crafton:

My other criteria involved having a 2-3″ heel (I’m 5’1″ and need all the help I can get) but for the shoes to not be ridiculously uncomfortable. I had the hardest time narrowing down what I wanted them to actually look like, however. All of these were contenders:

Source: Zappos

I finally purchased two pairs to try.

Source: Girl15N Pumps from Cutesy Girl

Source: Luichiny Duchess from Zappos.

However, when I tried them both on, the winner was clear (don’t mind my pale, veiny feet):

Both pairs were about the same, comfort-wise (in that they weren’t), but I looooved the open-toed pair. I thought they looked a little more formal and great for our wedding. I purchased some Heavenly Heelz and Killer Kushionz from Foot Petals, which made them tolerable. I plan on wearing flip flops for dancing at the reception, so I only have to make it through a few hours.

Oh, and the best part? The heart that Luichiny puts on the bottom of all their shoes.

I did keep the other pair of shoes; I’ll figure out some place to wear them.

Is anyone else wearing colored shoes?

I wanted to wear pink shoes, but my Mom laughed at me when I said this. I currently have ivory ones to match my dress, but I may try to slip some pink ones in without her knowing! ;)

yay for pale veiny footed people!! I also have a veiny chest, so I’m debating on getting the stuff to hide tattoos to cover it depending on how bad it looks ;)

I’m planning on wearing blue flats for ours, just haven’t decided on which shade of blue yet. I LOVE the idea of wearing colored shoes!!

I feel you on the short chick thing– I’m 5′0″ but FI is 6′4″! So basically I need a 4″ heel with a covered platform… but I can’t find them in the right shade of burgundy to go with our winery wedding colors. I totally want to wear colored shoes but right now it might be champagne or gold.

Your shoes are gorgeous!

CUTEST shoes ever! I have to say, that same photo of Kate’s fuelled my excitement about wearing red shoes. Everyone loved mine, and yours are soo HOT that everyone will love them even more!

I have the pair you chose in green and wore them to a formal event. *Everyone* commented on them, so they’re definitely a great choice. They weren’t too terribly uncomfortable over the evening, but I’m sure your additions to them will help!

Both pairs of shoes look fantastic on you! I’m going to wear red boots, hopefully Fluevogs :)

I own your shoes, in red as well! I wore them to a friend’s wedding and only at the very, very end of the night did my feet hurt. I wish I had gotten a picture of the hearts on the bottom before I walked outside and over gravel, but oh well :) Great choice!

I’m wearing red Fluevogs (Sugar), myself. They are already in the closet and Mr. Doctor is crazy for them!

Oh Yeah–coloured shoes have become a huge wedding trend, and personally, I looooooove it! We don’t have a very rigid set of colours guiding all our decisions, but are generally using shades of pink and purple with silver and other outdoor friendly neutrals. As such, I’m sure I’ll be able to find a great pair of pink or purple heels to go with my dress…..I used to have the most amazing baby pink leather peep toes and when they were destroyed by the wooden-plank sidewalks of Sacramento last year, I was grief-striken for months!

The luichiny’s are pretty wedding worthy but the ones with blace lace are HOT!

Glad you all think I made the right choice! :D

@Zoe: I went back to see if I could find those, and I was mistaken on where I found them! They were actually on Target’s website and it looks like they still sell them here.

@gesture and @gemini606: Glad to hear that they weren’t terribly uncomfortable! I’ve worn them around the house a bit to get used to them and they weren’t too bad, but they seemed like the type that would get uncomfortable after a few hours.

@Zoe: Just be prepared for lots of foot petals or something! I own them in black, got them last year and they are now the most painful shoes I own. Oddly enough, they started out not too bad, I guess they stretched and now my feet slide too far down. However, they are really cute shoes:)

aww, i have the gabrielle rocha’s (the third pair) you posted. i LOVE them, but they’re definitely not formal enough imo. it’s funny because i bought the third and fourth pairs you posted at the same time, had to choose a pair, and sent the others back. seeing them together on your post was strange, haha.

i love the ones you chose. good choice. :)

My red shoes made me soooooo happy all day, I got a ton of compliments, and even now I get a little smile whenever I see them in a wedding photo. Hope your experience is just as positive (bet it will be)!!

The satin ones with the bow are my DREAM shoe! I think I’m in love.

Fondue: does Kate have a blog?

I adore the colored shoes trend. I’d be more inclined towards the other pair if the lace were white. Fortunately, those red, ribbony shoes are gorgeous.

Oops- forgot to ask who makes the 4th shoes. I looked for them on Zappos but didn’t have any luck. Thanks!

I ordered the Luichiny in silver, but because they don’t come in half sizes, the shoes didn’t fit me so I had to return them. They are freakin adorable tho! =)

These were my wedding shoes on July 26! I loved them–they didn’t hurt at all and everyone wanted to see my “hot shoes” all day!

I wish I had some bridal shots online because the photographer loved them. A lot.

I am on the PROWL for apple-green heels. I want something vintagy and embellished. But I’m obsessive about the color - I don’t want Kelly green. I don’t want lime green. I’m being really picky about it. I know I’m going to end up having to get dyeable ones and then embellish them myself. Thank goodness I have a long engagement… I’m hoping that Spring will have styles in the color I’m looking for.

@Sarah: Sorry, all I saved was that they were from Zappos. This was from back in February, so it’s completely possible that they don’t have them anymore. :(

@Sarah: She does! It’s http://katecrafton.blogspot.com/.

The shoes you choose are beautiful! I wanted to wear dark red shoes too, but I couldn’t find anything I liked. The biggest problem, all the heels were too high!!

LOVE the heart on the bottom! That would be perfect for my wedding too! We are going for the Queen and King of Hearts, which would make the heart truly special :) Do you know where I can still find these red shoes? Zappos is down to brown and black only and in huge sizes.
